I own one and I adore it. It's everything I wanted out of a daily driver and track car combo. Wonderful to drive long distances and a ton of fun, especially when grip levels get low. Great for trips to Tahoe as well. If you do get one, I'd love to see some wide angle side view mirrors with heaters and BSM lights. No one offers those without a logo so far, and I'd love to see that. If the BSM light was a custom shape, like a Volvo BSM line, that'd be even cooler! Hit me up if you need help with developing products if you don't end up getting one of these cars.
After owning the GT86 for 5 years I have decided to get a GR Corolla this year. It’ll be my first manual car but I have heard that the GR Corolla is the easiest car to drive and learn on manual. I’m getting the circuit edition with the big wing, ventilation on the hood and leather seats.
i currently own a GR Corolla, I would absolutely love to see what you could do with it as a car that could do everything / be good on the track or canyon runs and still be a reliable and comfortable daily driver
theres dealership selling it. not a lot of dealer marking it up because people can't afford. back than yeah you didn't get it is because dealership sold it to someone with mark up
Kevin, the market has drastically changed in the last 12 months on a lot of cars. You probably know SoCal is probably one of the most marked up markets in the nation. A dealer here had 3 Circuit Editions and sold them just last week for 500 over invoice ( MSRP was around 46k and they sold for 44k before TTL ). MSRP is easy to get on Cores and Premiums with some dealers offering near invoice deals to move these.
Having driven both, I'd say the GR Corolla just feels more special than the WRX. It's just got a lot more character from the engine to the driving dynamics.
I have a circuit. I got lucky enough to find one last August. After a ton of work searching for one that wasn't already spoken for. So I definitely think you should get one. I don't think you'll regret it. I think your approach would be welcome in the community. I was so close to buying a GR86, because of your content. The GR Corolla won me over with it's AWD in Northern Illinois. Even though I don't daily it. I have almost 5000 miles of pure smiles!
Kevin. Thanks for recommending Hachi Electronics, specifically the cable tap that splits out to USB and a RJ11 for radar detectors. EXACTLY what I needed and it works really well!
What type of cold air intakes ? Toyota put a hold on the gr86 version. Also one that you do not have to take off the front bumper. Suggestions welcome.
I'm 6'4", and it's about as "all legs" as one can be and still look like a human being. I say this, because I've had my heart set on an FR-S/BRZ/GR 86 since I first heard about them, years back. Recently, I finally got to a point in life where I could afford to get one, and I can BARELY close the door in the damn things! Seat all the way back, steering wheel all the way up, I could fit, but it was a tight, pretty uncomfortable fit. Disappointing, to say the least. Then I learned about the GR Corolla. And my dealership had one. A Circuit Edition in Ice Cap (white). So I took it for a test drive. And all sadness over the inability to justify a GR 86 went out the window the moment I pulled off the lot on that first drive. Went home with it that day. Total cost for 2024 Circuit Edition with the roof rack, door sill protectors, cargo envelope, and the charging cable package was ~$49k, including delivery, taxes, registration, etc. (Zero dealer markup, which is one of numerous reasons I love this dealership, and am lucky to have them nearby.) I have been dailying it since June 8th, and I absolutely LOVE it. Just passed the first thousand miles on Weds! She's almost broken in, will be switching from break-in oil at 1500, and doing a transmission and transfer case/differential oil change then, as well. Only very minor mods so far, like an aftermarket start/stop button from Bonobo Products and an aftermarket shift knob from Billetworkz, and only minor mods in the near future (short-throw shifter, maybe a new steering wheel, summer/winter tire/wheel setup, maybe an intake), because I don't need anything else. It's an AWESOME car, and I couldn't be happier. Plus, I've already had several people stop and tell me how cool it is, including a guy driving a GT4RS, which put me on cloud nine for the rest of the day lol. Anyway, get it. I want to see what you do with it, what mods you showcase, and give me ideas for mine. Because I LOVED what you've done with the '86, but I can't do anything with that information! Plus, I know you won't regret it!
I got mine at msrp in May after waiting 6 weeks and I absolutely love it. I’d be so stoked if you got one and started modding it as a do-it-all daily! I think the car has so much cool factor, and so much potential
I'm looking at getting the SXTH Element arm rest. I've heard it's... decent. But hey, for ~$225 shipped, it's not too bad an outlay. Just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet, but it's high on my list of next mods. (Not doing anything too crazy until the car's paid off; don't modify the bank's car, after all.)
I have a premium and love it. I haven't driven the latest WRX but have driven the last model STI. Comparable but the GRC is faster. You should be able to get one at MSRP now.
I recently went to my local dealer like 2 weeks ago planning to trade my 17 gt86 for a 22 wrx. The wrx was a car I really loved since gran turismo 4 for the ps2. Going in with high expectations and ended up not liking the car at all. Considering a gr corolla now.
Ehh.. dont sell the wrx for the GR corolla... just throw power mods at the wrx.. the corolla wont be around in a couple years... but the rexy will. its gonna be like a ford focus RS... the mark ups killed the community for the car, because Toyota wouldnt reign in dealers, and people just couldnt get em... its a corolla at the end of the day, its super pedestrian inside and cheap. its really not that special say, over a type R.. and if you are gonna buy a car for the track, for that price you might as well get a type R. Sure its fun, but keep in mind, is it gonna be a good buy after the honeymoon?? You already have a car that has more potential for the track, the 86... it would just be more of the same...
Could be overhyped, but I love mine and this type of combination (turbo small displacement sporty awd MT) is not going to be available much longer from the way the industry seems to be trending. This car no doubt took a ton of money and passion to produce and if nothing else delivers, the power train and drivetrain certainly do.
@@djstack2004 fair, I just think for the price point my money is on the Elantra N. Feels just as special albeit in a different way and superior chassis dynamics and suspension tuning imo. 33K MSRP vs 40K w/ a core with LSD (it's taken two years for MSRP GRCs to be a thing). Different cars but really they're after a similar demographic. I have driven a GRC but for the price it's a hard pass. If they couldn't offered an LSD Core at 36-38K I think it would be worth it.
The Corolla is severely aesthetically challenged. For this money I might try a Golf R…. Or put a turbo in the GR and you’ll never look at the Corolla again. Love the channel and all the driven media upgrades. Cheers 🍻
The GR Corolla is my favorite car I've ever owned. They're extremely fun once you start modding (as is every car for the most part) I just love the character that it oozes
I feel like the GR Corolla would be a better investment. They hold their value really well so far in the year - year 1/2 that they’ve been out. Can’t say the WRX with the super controversial decisions Subaru made with it will translate to a good resale value in the future.
I have an 18 WRX and have seriously considered trading it in for a GR Corolla. But I’m not paying dealer markups and I would want an upper trim level. The GR Corolla is closer to what the WRX used to be and needs to go back to. But for now I’m sticking with the WRX as my daily car. It’s paid off, still has low miles for it’s age, and it’s been a good car.
I had a 2018 wrx @ 313/312. Got my GR premium this May in the color I wanted and @msrp within 6 weeks of deposit. I just called some dealers and asked if they mark em up and moved on if they did. I was thinking I’d miss my WRX compared to anything else, and boy was I wrong! The GR is quick and precise and I absolutely love it
I own a GR86 and I needed a 4 seater so I was cross shopping the WRX, the GR Corolla and the Integra Type S. I ended up with the ITS but would have been happy with the WRX or the GRC too.
I think stick with the wrx since there's more out there for you business side of things but if you can get a gr corolla while keeping the wrx then go for it. I know i want one but a type r is my first choice
