Awesome build... although I'm curious... I noticed ĥow u lit the gas/vapor as it came out... my question is, how long does it remain combustible after gasification? And can it, in fact, be pumped, pressurized, and contained in another tank to be used as a fuel cell?😮🫡
I wanted to build this but what I am not sure is how much gas it will take to power my diesel generator. Not know what it is too much and what its not. Or would it be regulated via the wood gas calibrator?
I have been watching the Development of Off Grid 48. & when Gridlessness Perches one To build for them-self to ues I followed intently. when it was first fired up I must say Along with my knowledge of the WW2 model of wood gas generator. it failed at first to produce gas That is what I call grade one gas. But product plenty of grad two gas Which is often damp in nature. I found That,1962 was a frigid & wet year. & my WW"2 gas generator my father used & i operated. product an overabundance of damp smock. just like the Off Grid 48 build did. I solve my problem by attaching a charcoal colon to the Generator & sending all damp smocks into the colom. before lilting the Flair. the inlet had a valve so it could be shut off. before lilting the flair. to ensure a good vacuum. the charcoal tube would Bern of the oxygen in the. damp smock & we would have class one gas for running Combust-chon engines. I suggest This can be achieved with the Off-Grid 48 Modal today. Les England
Ok, Ben, it's time for me to open up this subject, to you. & others I get it & your gas generator is well-built. Ok first let me tell you my story I'm les thompson. Born in 1952. Off-grid first we had an Old truck Gas generator That once ran on a truck. In 1962 we in England suffered the worst winter ever. lasted so long that it was May before the snow went. So it was then I discovered the pelage of damp wood gas. we never managed to pull the gas up to the critical velocity you refer to, in this video. so I decided to visit my gas works. in the UK we made our own gas from coal. In the conversation, I told him about my wood gas generator & asked if he could give me some advice. he wondered what type of Gas generator it was I said a down draft type. swiss modal or Dutch. he replied I replied swiss, have you found that side pocket & filled it with charcoal yet. No should I? IT was at this point he informed me I got wet smock because I had not filled the tub with charcoal, you must remove the top of the tube & fill it with charcoal from your gas generator as you refill it with wood & put the dry un charcoal wood at the bottom. then you wet wood. well isn't it better dry I asked. look wet or dry the hydrogen is in the water wood. As it goes through its first Bern it leaves the bottom as wet smock they all do. some have cyclones on the side but most have charcoal colom that are lit charcoal in their bottom, It is this part of the gas generator that Is so often forgotten it' allows the wet smock to remove the oxygen up the charcoal colom & into the filter system. It is this that makes the wood gas generator work so well. Most plants had this part removed after the war To deter the induction of them permanently being an option. I went home & there it was under a flange on the side of the main vessel. When I opened it up I discovered the back was rotted out' So I experimented & soon arrived at a slosh. I installed a charcoal colom secretly & fed that gas to my engine & never looked back. I also discovered adding steam into the colom will produce good gas.. to run an engine. I did this in 1962. I suffer from diplexer So I did not speak of it until now I have mentioned it to builders, but not mainly listed. but some have discovered it coming from a different direction it was used in filing the early balloons, not your design as just the right place to fit a charcoal colon. w the let is for the filter damp gas into the colom & dry gas into the filter colom.

After dissecting, literally retyping the entire FEMA file just to make it digitally reference-able...I know the Imbert design is lacking safety features. But hey, it has been time tested so naturally the next step is addressing the issues correctly and it appears, that is what you have done. The lesson in this post i suggest is . this wood gas bible has it as become called should be classed as a glide to building a gas Generator. Not a How to Bible. i will not criticize the book it dos exactly what is says in the book & enables you to build A gas Generator. But i will point out there are some important factors one . must tack in to account. it as to be sead within the commit your working in . & what ues you intend to put your wood gas to. gas predust at lower Cracking point's Will work well for hating & cooking. but gas used to predust. gas to power engine Need much hotter cooking heat in the 2. to 3.000 rang. the book is a gild to the biding not a how to Manuel in short it expects you to. build & modify using the gidens in the book . following basic pinballs in Pyrolysis. sufficient heat to achieve the tow things in gasification {ONE the complete Bern of off all oxygen within the pyrolites chamber, Or what is refed to as the reduction Zone so it Bern of all the oxygen within the Bren chamber . for engine at lest 2000. + } [ Two their is sufficient time to archive the formation of charcoal bed so it will reach the heat we need. & be sufficiently hot to achieve a clean gas production. to clod & it will not Bern of all the oxygen in the stem predust & that will result, in Damp gas deduction sufficient to heat or cook with but not up to the job of running an engine To produce power with it could tar up an engine. 2,000 + is required for engine gas. So it not properad to trash the Gide book . because, of one ineptitude in it's build . it not the gas -genarater it you inability to grasp the finer details. DAMP gas For to cold a in the Bern-chamber unless your going to use it to heat something or cook on , but to run a engine it must be choked up . to increace the Bern heat & tine . so all the oxygens in the smock is burnt off . The honorable thing he could have worked with you their is enough interest in this technology this fella went wrong way being a sneaky pretender, pretending being a friend, this is the worse kind of person. Stand back don't let this destroy your vision, motivation for future development it's only a bump in the road. Expand horizons get motivated building kits for public an easy assembled kit for the average weekend mechanic. Sell the main parts that are not easy for average folk to complete, Assembly with regular tools there are many opportunities out there with your years of knowledge in this field. Stay Well and strong. Oh by the way, there are many folks out there that would invest in this technology either in small amounts either hands on with funds as well as just funding,. Offer kits in different stages of completio. JUST SAYING

I've built the FEMA version gasifier and then one that was my design based on my research. I'm a disabled veteran and have time on my hands. I really liked my design but it had a ton of heat loss. My plan was to put that heat to good use by incorporating several heat exchangers for hot water and hot air. Since then I've gone through a divorce, lost my house, lost my storage units that held my gasifier, that also held all of the components to construct another gasifier and other gasification devices I was working on. I also had several back surgeries. That being said, I really like the design of this unit. I looked for the book mentioned here,but it's off the charts expensive. Can anyone point me in the direction of perhaps a used book? If so please let me know. Thank you. And a special thanks to the gentleman presenting this video.god bless. Jason

I'm very interested in building one of these. I purchased your book , just curious as you have alot more time and expieirience with these, how long does the steel grate or any other parts last with all that extreme heat ? I was planning on building one and putting it in a shed to keep it out of the weather, I will put some c02 sensors and alarm inside just in case but it any other concern I should be aware of ? I've always been fascinated with the process of gasification. Done researching it in the past and started to accumulate things to build a FEMA gasifier. The plans were on the internet. Obviously you have taken us way further than the FEMA gasifier which is plagued with problems. I'm sure I will be purchasing your book very shortly in converting my accumulated Parts into your design. Thank you for being such a true patriot to this country. That's very few people realize how vulnerable the whole system is. 1 EMP or coronal mass ejection and we're right back to the 1800s if we're lucky. Keep up the good work

Two questions. 1). The gasifier rate of production is independent of the motor. So what happens when your producing more gas than the engine is burning? Flare it off? I first got into gasification thru wood boilers. Totally different animal. I now find myself in need of a maple syrup evaporator. Not the most efficient way of burning wood.
Don’t forget Y2K!!!! I was assigned software compliance for a year. Easiest software money ever. FEMA was freaking out! So they wrote up a booklet on how to build a wood gasifier to run old tractors. I have two copies in my tech library. It looked like a 55 gal drum on the front of an 8N tractor!

As far as I can tell, its not really a knockoff. No more than a septic tank would be a knockoff. Improve the designs. I doubt if its more than a hobby business because we're mostly tightwads. I can't use any of the popular gasifier designs because I'm using wood chips.
