Welcome to Sage and Stone Homestead! Our main goal on our farm is to steward the land and the animals on it to the best of our ability, providing ourselves as much of our own food as possible. We raise our own dairy goats, pigs, rabbits, and many types of poultry from quail to turkey and of course, the humble chicken. We also have a large raised bed garden and a big greenhouse for producing a significant chunk of our own vegetables and fruits. We also dabble a little bit into beekeeping with our 7 honeybee hives! A little of everything, and we love it!

I’m so sad that I missed so many of your videos! I will need to search your channel because you don’t show up on my feed anymore. So glad though to have videos to binge!
I've seen raw goat milk for sale here in southern az anywhere from 5 to 20 per half gallon I try to get 20 per gallon. Bottom line, cheaper than one week's Starbucks and far more nutritious. Hay is easily 15 and higher per bale.. Which stinks We purchase alfalfa pellets, half ton at as time. Less waste, worth it
My birthday is Friday and my grandmas letting me get a buck i wanted to get a doe and raise them in a colony but she said i had to proove i could care for it till spring and i was wondering if it could be alone till then and still be integrated into a colony later and also what feed do you use for your meat rabbits
Great question and answer video. Our favorite bread to make is sourdough cinnamon and sugar bread. We have been having fun making all sorts of breads lately. Using regular yeast, we have made rye bread with caraway seeds. That’s a favorite too.
Great video! My favorite bread is French bread. Crusty on the outside and dense and delicious on the inside. I have yet to make it homemade. Maybe soon
I love Samara! I show with her and she’s truly a lovely person who has wonderful goats. On another note, like you said, farming/homesteading is HARD. We also have a decent little size farm of about 30 dairy goats, I have 30 ish chickens, 2 LGDs, along with the inside animals. If I think about it too long the amount of lives I’m responsible for everyday is daunting. The amount of hard calls I made this year was a lot. Thankfully kidding this year was “okay” as in No c-sections. I did have to pull not alive kids and hard assist one. Through all of it the beauty for me outweighs the ugly. I wouldn’t do it any other way.
Myrthe favorite bread is al gluten free one. Both my daughters can't eat gluten and I can't eat a lot of it or we have painful belly 's. So I am learning how te maken gluten free bread because its verry expensive to buy. I am trying sorghum and would like to learn how to make other types op bread
I've had a Flow Hive for four years and make sure that the Flow hive is above another super that the bees first fill and can use to survive over the winter. I've had wonderful honey from the Flow hive and it is so simple to harvest without disturbing the colony. I added tubing to the Flow connection tube so the honey is totally enclosed as it come from the hive and there are no yellow jackets or robbers getting into it. I have a traditional Langstroth hive as well but believe the Flow hive is easier to manage and I've been very satisfied with it.
I can't pick it up when it's full, the burr comb they build under the flow frames makes removing it a nightmare too when I need to inspect, which is about every 3 weeks. Harvesting before inspecting that often is impractical. I don't personally think it's that amazing of a tool and have grown to LOVE keeping bees horizontally.
@@SageandStoneHomestead I made a rabbit and shrimp paella. It came out very nicely. This is the first rabbit I cooked -- my takeaways: the meat was a bit firmer but otherwise very similar to chicken; it was drier than most chicken (but I may have overcooked it a bit). This was a store bought rabbit and at $6.99/lb, was about 3 times the cost of a chicken -- given the similarity in taste not worth the price differential. I suspect the store price reflects the lack of popularity and if one were raising rabbits, they would be similar in price to chicken. Again, thanks for a great video and I'm looking forward to exploring more of your content.
Thank you so much for answering so many questions. My favorite bread is any kind of crusty bread. It’s gotta have a good chew to it. Have a great rest of your week!
We love sourdough in the cast iron dutch oven. So yummy. This is my first year of really keeping a starter alive. I had previously only kept one for a few months and then stuck it in the frig where it died a slow death. This year I've been feeding and using it so much better. I love your perspective and thoughtful answers. Thank you for your content!
I’ve got just one meat chicken and don’t want to pull all the chicken processing equipment out and have to clean it for just one. I’m going to try this, thanks.
I am so enjoying your channel! I found you through your raising rabbits series as we just began our rabbit journey a few months ago. I love making bread and my standard go to is Honey Whole Wheat using grains I mill here. Sometimes I just use a red and white hard wheat combo and other times I make a multigrain flour. The bread is easy to make and reliable as to how it turns out.
Hey Heather and Levi! June 3rd I started my own sourdough starter at home and I have been having a blast making all the different things! So far my favorite from that is the same day sandwich bread for the same reasons you just said I use my own goats milk, and honey and once I get my cream separator I can use butter in place of the olive oil! My over all favorite bread would have to be just plain Jane French bread, I could rip a chunk off and eat it by itself! 🤤 bread is definitely a weakness!
Thank you for the recipe and tips! I made my first rabbit tonight and it was a huge hit with my husband and three kids. I loved it too!! We’re considering raising meat rabbits and this may have sealed the deal! ❤️
The bread I love is canadien rye, is a name brand and I have not yet found a way to replicate it at home. not a fan of most other rye breads, I do not know what makes it so special but nothing else compares to it lol. As i have ASD i am very very routine oriented I have only 1 thing I like from any food place and only order that item, its different for each place but once I find something I like I just don't order anything else unless there is absolutely no option. example for over 20 years I drank almost nothing but pepsi , no coffee no tea no milk no any other liquid except when there was no other option, now the only liquid I drink is plain water and has been for 3 years now. Now that I have over shared my ASD rant is done lol. I really enjoy your openness to share all you do on YT as well as your reasons, Little mountain ranch is another YT I say holds same values and truths about everyday happenings and struggles. would love more rabbit content but I know your kids do a lot of that work and trolls on YT are not child friendly so I am happy how you guys manage that aspect too. Thanks again for sharing and hope your family has a wonderful day/night.
I have a peek of the buck rabbits in the upcoming garden tour, but it's just a peek! Rabbit content will pick up more in the fall and winter when we are actually breeding again and all that, right now it's survival mode! Tomorrow's high is 115!! Brutally hot for them but the fans are helping SO much this year. As far as routine favorites go, your bread and beverage choices sound great!! And good for you! :)
Hi Heather. Loved the Q and A with your husband, but then I enjoy all your videos! I'm hooked. 😊 My favorite kind of bread is rye although I've never made it. It is a rare treat if I'm ordering out to get a sandwich on rye.❤
