Lots of good tips today. I’ll try adding a bit of sugar to get a cream cheese taste. Also having one bowl, I have many and need them all especially on kimchi days but wow can I fill a sink! I also didn’t know you could leave the cultured milk out 24+ hours. I only leave it overnight. That is super helpful because I never feel like making cheese before bed. I have a tip for you too. I use those same chèvre packets for 1 1/2 to 2 gallons of milk every time and it works perfectly. Have a lovely day

Wonderful video Heather, really love seeing the barn to table aspect of what looked like a very yummy breakfast! Winnie is looking like she'll do very well when she grows up fully. Foxy seems a sweetheart, hopefully she's settling in nicely. Jupiter and Feral, I love the white coats so much - they just glow. Nef doesn't know what he's missing in letting Jupiter have all the whey haha. The bread looked so delicious, am very glad those little silicone things are helpful and useful. I'll have some in my future homestead kitchen too someday. Learning so much along the way until that time comes, from great creators like you. Thank you and your family for sharing with us all. 💚💚

Are all those jars on your counter sourdough starter except the kefir? Another great video. I can't wait to try that crusty bread and chevre one day.
@SageandStoneHomestead
@SageandStoneHomestead 3 месяца назад
Yes two starters and a discard. A lot of times discard is stored in the fridge, and a lot of times people keep more separation between their ferments to prevent cross-culturing! Keep that in mind, I'm not doing things exactly correctly lol

You can make your own cultures with the raw milk. But it is a bit difficult to learn some of the more advanced cultures. I watch a Mediterranean channel that shows how to make and identify the cultures. However, one caveat, is that I have not found anywhere that also documents the dangerous cultures. I had one that seemed interesting, but could have contained Listeria, so I dumped it out.

Living in the SW most people are looking for hot peppers, especially jalapeno but also even the really hot ones. But there are some of us that are not that into really hot. I think I will add your Nadapeno to my seed list for next year. And I'm going to have to try your method of making chevre! I usually do it in a pot but it would certainly be handy and easy to do it in the jars. AND I'm going to have to try that sugar trick! Also I am wondering if you added a little extra cream to the milk if you would get a more creamcheese texture and flavor.
@SageandStoneHomestead
@SageandStoneHomestead 3 месяца назад
It's really close in flavor but a fluffier consistency more like whipped cream cheese. I'm not sure what would create that exact texture but I like your theory!

I have three does: 2 ND & 1 mini Lamancha. I have considered breeding but I have only had goats off and on and I worry a lot. 😂 I just wonder if it’s worth the possible issues that come with breeding and birth and post birth to try my hand at it. Initially I bought these goats for the milk because there are so many benefits to it. My question is: is it worth it? I don’t know what to do.
@SageandStoneHomestead
@SageandStoneHomestead 3 месяца назад
Oh it's definitely worth it. You've got to be able to handle the potential bad situations. Maybe if you're not sure you yourself could manage a tough situation make sure to have a vet who does farm calls!

@hollydyer8992 3 месяца назад

I need to practice more patience when straining the whey out 😅
@SageandStoneHomestead
@SageandStoneHomestead 3 месяца назад
My reply went away! I don't see it. Anyway, make sure the cloth used to strain hasn't also drained something oily like bacon or the whey can't pass through correctly. I usually let it sit a couple hours.

I know it might be a silly question, but what filters do you use for filtering your goat milk? I have a hard time finding one's that filter quickly. I looked on your Amazon store and didn't see them there. Do you get them from somewhere else? Thanks for the videos!
