This was my grandparent's home church!! they got married there in 1956 and been a huge part of that church since then. my mother and 2 uncles were baptized there as well as confirmed there. a couple of my cousins and I were also baptized there too. Good Shepherd is everything to my family including myself. So many wonderful memories.
The antique dolls are actually bisque not porcelain. Most with composition bodies. Some of the dolls you have shown are from the 1930’s and 40’s and have composition heads which were less breakable than bisque. I find it annoying when people refer to antique dolls as creepy these were loved play dolls for children.
I enjoyed the video. On May 25th,1979, I was 21 years old and lived in Simi Valley, CA-a suburb of Los Angeles. I was home that afternoon, cleaning my house. I had the TV on for some background noise, and the regular program was interrupted by a “Special Report” American Airlines flight 191 from ORD to LAX crashed on take-off in Chicago. I never did finish cleaning my house because I couldn't take my eyes off the television. I watched the news about the crash for hours. It was devastating. I thought about it for days: all those poor souls on the plane, their families, and friends. Every year on May 25th @ about 1305 Pacific time, I have a moment of silence and say a little prayer to remember everyone on Flight 191, their families, friends, and all the emergency responders. I bought your book today. I can't wait to get it. ❤
I remember when my father put indoor plumbing into my grandparents' old farmhouse next door, in about 1954 (not in Des Plaines). My grandfather kept the privy next to the tractor shed, because he felt ambiguous about the idea of bowel movements in the house. That privy, of course, had the Sears catalogs, at some times, corncobs at other times.
It’s not true that VCRs become obsolete since DVD players became common. These could play DVDs but couldn’t record TV programs. DVDs were a play only medium just like Laserdiscs or prerecorded video tapes.
I love porcelain dolls. I understand how most people find them creepy but I don't. Every doll was made and designed for everyone to enjoy and I've been collecting since 2021 and I currently have 17 dolls all of different heights, clothing aesthetics, different face molds too. I cherish these dolls and I wouldn't want anything to happen too them because of the joy they give me 💕
Hi, I have autism to. I been collecting porcelain dolls because it makes me feel comfort because I’m very lonely and I I’m homeschooled and I don’t have any friends my dolls are my friends. They seemed all to have their own personalities and looks it can be very interesting. I’m currently 17. Yeah some people do you think they’re creepy like my mother
You need to do a walking tour of this cemetery. We did one from the Park Ridge perspective where the Maine South drama department was playing the citizens. My family and I really enjoyed it. Our family was and is from Des Plaines and most of them are in that cemetery.
Love this! Simple and to the point! Im for sure using this video in my lesson on consumerism in the 1920s! Would love to see more videos like this describing what life was like back then. Love how you explained it and showed images to go with the topic. Thanks! A video on DP/ suburban development due to the RR would also be super cool! (Just sayin :D)
