There are many aspects to keeping an aquarium. Many newcomers to the hobby can be quickly overwhelmed. The KGTropicals RU-vid channel was created to be a place for no nonsense information about the hobby, a place where the information is delivered in a way that even the most inexperienced fish keeper could understand. Whether you want to breed aquarium fish, heal a sick or injured fish or you just want to know how to set up your first tank, KGTropicals has you covered.
You agree that blood parrots are bred to be cute and have stunted body but you still find them cute and dont have a problem with it cause you yourself have kept them. But flowerhorns are also hybrids bred to have pronounced nuchal humps and now you tend to disagree with FH keeping? That is quite biased, its just your opinion. BP is okay, but FH is not? pfff
when i started up the hobby again the first thing i got was a first aid kit for my tanks. For instance my clownfish started acting they they had parasites and i had onhand exactly what they needed. I bought it when i could afford it and therefor had it when i needed it, and i am regularly getting stuff to keep onhand for "in case i need it in the future" things. ALSO youre talking about power outages and we have a lot of them for no reason lol so i keep all my setups able to be ran off just airpump filtration like sponges or undergravel filters, so the airpumps and heaters can be ran off USB battery backup generator rechargable with solar pannel
I used to have an Oscar and Peacock Bass in a 125 gallon tank. Then I went to Chicago's Shedd Aquarium and saw a school of Oscars in a tank at least 10 times the size of my tank. It opened my eyes to how difficult it must be for mine to live in a small tank. Since then I've bought much smaller fish.
I did that as im a beginner to this, and my fish started dying after 3 weeks, i then did a bit of research and then started to cycle my tank but with fish in it (which you can do), so im officially in week 2 of the cycling and i am doing water testing daily but with strips, i may buy the api water test kit as i have heard its more accurate. Im also adding seachem prime daily to get ammonia and nitrite levels down, is there anything else i can do? My water is much much clearer not going to lie but i just want to know if theres anything else i can do, obviously im doing water changes every 2-3 weeks aswell
i never understand why people dont just cut pieces off of the cubes to thaw instead of thawing a whole cube at once which they obviously wont eat all of.
Here in Bharath RO is safest PH is 7 and TDS is 130. Also 80 degrees F is spring cool climate here in down south Bharath/India. That's not warm😂 but for USA it is..
I have solar with battery storage. I sell excess energy to the grid. I received a 30% tax incentive with the above purchase. Paid system off in 5 years. Battery storage gives you power with outages. Solar panels by themselves do not supply power with outages I save $500/month on gas and electricity as I own an EV. I can not control healthcare costs but can control energy costs that continue to increase.
I’m so glad that after all my years in the hobby I’ve found the Walstad/Father Fish/LRB method of keeping naturally balanced fish tanks and creating these little self sufficient ecosystems. It’s so rewarding and satisfying and peaceful having a little slice of nature in your home and FEELING that connection to life 🙏
I live in Florida, power goes out for a long time chances are a hurricane going through the area caused it. I don't have to worry about my tanks getting cold because my house will be hot hot hot without A/C on. I did buy battery powered air pumps. I probably should buy a fourth one and have two for my 55 gallon.
I have like 9 FEMME betta and planning to transfer them in 20Gal tank. I grouped them into 3 tanks first 1- 3femme and 2 has 4femme and other 2 fem koi which these two esp the other doesn't really get along (red and orange base koi) the orange tend to bully the red :(
i only buy fish when i have a few dollars to spare. I have a betta and pleco and they don’t eat a lot and pretty easy to maintain. I like having them they give me something to do besides thinking about bad the world is
when I'd come at the end of the day my oscar would get so excited and was just like a puppy...my Vietnamese mother inlaw would cook him rice & hamburger meatballs ❤ miss my boy ☹
I'd say it isn't cheap but for some regions, an overnight battery backup connected to a solar panel could work too, but that would really work better for areas that get a lot of sunlight.
I have had my fair share of fish die on me. Something that I just come to accept is that fish will die on you no matter how much you try to keep them healthy. You can give them a nice planted tank with warm water, feed them the highest quality food, and have the most pristine water parameters in the world but fish are gonna die on you. I’ve lost guppies, Cory Dora’s, and harlequin Rasboras. This morning my albino Cory Dora that was perfectly healthy for years and a month ago my thick lipped gold gourami that I had for only three months then died. When fish die I return their body to the earth and put them in my plants.
I really like my little tiger barbs they don't bother the other fish although I will say the larger tiger barb that passed away recently did harass the fish non-stop so I would definitely not recommend them but I think the small ones are okay when you get them very small and they grow up with the other fish. Thank you
Hey John and Lisa, I don’t know if you guys respond to comments but I was wondering if you think adding 6 pepper corys to a 20 high with 6 guppies and a dwarf gourami would be overstocking? I think they’re really cute but I don’t want to buy them to the detriment of my other fish.
I agree with your rant. People have become horribly lazy! I understand what you're attempting to say to the lazy people. Meanwhile- I'm picking out my next plant. 😅
So, if you DID buy too many fish at once, what should you do to diffuse the bomb? More water changes? Add bacteria from a bottle? I have an established 15 gallon tank that had 3 big angel fish. I moved them to a bigger home. The only fish left in the tank were 3 corys. I bought 3 tiny corys and 3 danios at once. Any advice on diffusing the bomb?
Our house is on the same power grid as one of the local police stations, which is about a half mile from us. Seems like every time there's a power issue, the entire neighborhood around us can go down and our street will be completely unaffected 😂
Thank you for these… CO2 generator… is that sugar and yeast or Soda and citric acid? Sugar and yeast is slow, hard to manage but can be done in sparkling water bottles… Citric acid is more instand and can be speeded up or stopped for the nighttime but trickier to do DIY rout…
A good video but, I think you had to cover equipment failure too as that will happen to everyone who stay in the hobby for couple years or more. This is a big one too For electricity: I’m not in a flat so I can park my car near by. I have a 12dc to 220ac converter (in Europe, for you it would be 110ac). I plug that in car, extension lead to the filter and I can run like that with hour car off, 30min car running … but this is for short outages… not a solution for 24hrs…
So I want to do a water change clean the filter which I have been lacking and put a heater in the tank, plus meds hopefully this will knock this problem out.
