My name's Gwenny, and I've loved luxury handbags for as long as I can remember! 😍 I created this channel as a way to share & connect with like-minded handbag enthusiasts and thus preserve my marriage to the long-suffering Lion who knows WAY more about luxury handbags than he's comfortable with! 🦁🤣
Hello Gwenny! It's great that you shared this experience. Many of us have these confidence crushing fitting room sessions. Bravo M & S for having inclusive sizes! You looked adorable in everything you tried on there. You have a great sense of style. I love the leopard top! Occasionally I try something that I think won't be flattering and I'm surprised. I think it's interesting, being a pear shaped girl, I thought apples look more proportioned and have an easier time! My biggest issue is, I'm short waisted and I have long legs. Petite tops and tall pants! I have found here in the US woman's stores will provide short or petite pants from XS sizes to XXXL. The choices for tall, if offered at all, often start at size 4. There aren't a lot of choices for tall slim. I also agree, handbags and shoes never let you down.💜💙💚🧡❤
I love this video Gwenny! I’m exactly the same but I’m a top heavy gal. So if something fits my bust it will hang off my shoulders, arms and middle. Dresses hang like tents or are too tight on my arms and bust, there is no in between. 18 top and 14 in trousers/ skirts is no fun to be shopping for. Swimsuits are, so far, absolutely impossible to find! Everything seems to be geared towards the pear and hourglass shapes, as are the models who showcase them. That’s why I’m all handbags, shoes and costume jewellery. 🙂
I'm sorry that you ended up apple shaped, but I am and so was your Têta. I guess you were unlucky, but it may have been inevitable... it is hard to clothes shop when this shape. Have you looked at East? They do a lot of flowing gowns, etc. Monsoon, too. Good luck. Love you. Xxx
You are so beautiful on the inside it shines right through to your outside honey! Thank you for your video …Here in Oz we have a fabulous store called City Chic sizes range from 12 to Very Voluptuous..I’m on the smaller end but just love that is there room for our norks as you say ..check them out if you can …big hugs 😘 🇦🇺 💖✨
I'm so sorry your shopping trip wasn't the experience you deserve! ❤ You looked fab in all your outfits though! I really wish there were more options in store, there is nothing for plus sizes or petites or over 35s it seems! I't seems that all the shops carry the exact same things as each other. It's difficult enough finding different styles, seasons or colours, let alone niche or extended sizing. I dont like shopping for clothes online, but shopping in store is worse! Thanks for sharing your thoughts G ❤❤
Fashion for women is cruel I feel the same as you do I’m tall size 16 18 Canadian it is so bad there are huge shopping mall that have nothing for me . I definitely understand your frustration.❤
I'm Australian size 20-22 apple shape 165cm and have not shopped designer retail for years. Only trawl the op shops which can be hit and miss but usually find something phenomenal, different, good quality and you are not going to see someone else in it.
I'm a minimalist commenter, but needed to say you are fab and i simply love your kooky vibe and how relatable you are. Do not let that experience dim your light, shine bright as always and I simply cannot wait for those NYC vlogs 😊❤
Loved the Forever New dresses - have to check out, if they are available in Germany. It’s a shame those were not available in your size - the cut would be flattering on so many different body shapes! You look wonderful Gwenny and I love the way you dress: colorful and always fun 💕
Ok i am going to tell the truth about how i feel about clothes. I really di not like clothes. I very much dislike buying clothes Period . I have less than 30 clothed and I wear the same style because what i wear just worksfor me. Im comfortable and i look ok not fashionable but i feel acceptable which is just a pair of jeans that i order because im short and hard to find j3ans i like in store that fit me. My weight fluctuates. I wear the same style blouses. So im not crazy about clothes because i find it difficult and a pain to find things that look good on me so this is perhaps one of the reasons i love bags i find purses are dun and interesting and I have loved purses since i was a kid🎉 purses
Love Zimmerman dresses but a bit pricey and maybe a tad too young for this 61 year old. The Australian brand really does give the same vibes. I’m going to go and look now. Also thought the light pinky dress really flattered you but maybe a brighter or different colour would be better.
Hi gwenny I want you to know you definitely are not alone. I subscribed to your channel because you have such a great personality and I love 2 watch your videos. I feel you are like sunshine 🌞. I am 5ft 2inches . And up and down on weight. I love purses like you do. They make me so happy. In the bag world gwenny we are family❤ 😊
This is definitely a problem for many women. I think the average size in America is a 14 but it may have changed. I think that may be a UK 16. That’s a lot of women who probably hate clothes shopping. I’ve always considered myself slightly overweight. I don’t think I really am although I’ve gained a few in the past few months. I’ve been thin before but I was very, very ill and really couldn’t enjoy being thin…..what a loss.😂😂😂 I guess I’m lucky as I’m more of a pear shape and I think it’s easier to find clothes. The one thing that really irks me is the options for bigger girls in the luxury brands. The European brands often go up to a possible size 10. I guess these brands don’t want us bigger girls advertising for them.😳
Yes, it’s an Aussie brand and it runs small 😞. I bought that dress you liked and had to return it because my size did not fit me. I’m an apple shape too and only 5’2, I resonate with your struggle too. Thank you for making this video.
Thanks for the honesty and insight here, Gwenny. You are truly beautiful the way you are and eff anyone or anything that makes you feel bad about yourself. Your personality only adds to the whole fantastic package. Have an amazing trip but fair warning: it's been exceptionally hot and muggy in the NYC area. Come visit me at the Jersey shore to cool off! (That's New Jersey, not the island of Jersey, haha.)
Handbags always fit!!! Yes ma’am they do. That’s why I’m okay with spending money on bags but not on luxury clothes. I’m so sorry you had a bad shopping experience. Sending you hugs ❤❤❤
Very good video. I am an apple as well. I usually shop Torrid. I will check out some Lane Bryant and frankly, any time I hear of another plus size brand I try to purchase something from them. All I have to say is the fashion industry is missing out on an awful lot of money....all these retailers are going out of business or looking for new business models....how about looking for clothes that don't look like they are for your grandma, once you reach a certain size????
This needs to be talked about more, thank you for stepping up! 💗 I shop in America at Torrid, Hot Topic, and Lane Bryant. I have finally found a specific style that compliments my plus size. I became plus size about 20 years ago, I was thin my whole life, I’ll be 60 next year. Fashion can be difficult depending on what they come out with, sometimes I find a ton of things that work and others absolutely nothing. The struggle is real! 🤗
Ah Gwenny, I feel you, I often joke I’m 5’3” - height and width. Probably closer to 5’2” these days. I was pear shaped up to perimenopause starting in mid to late 40s then the pear morphed into the apple. It is much more difficult to style. There are sizes 14, 16 & 18, M, L, XL and XXL in my wardrobe and they all fit 🤷🏻♀️. Shopping is such a gamble, I tend to stick to the same couple of stores that I know I will find something that fits and generally looks good. Jeans, bras and swimwear deserve a whole day to shop for, regardless of size. You’re correct in that Forever New is an Aussie brand, usually sizes 4 - 16 BUT they have a separate range Forever New Curve 16 - 26. It used to have stand alone stores but now it’s becoming absorbed into their regular ones, hopefully larger sizes will appear in the UK in time.
I love that you put the footage out. You are so beautiful. My daughter struggles so much with her body and it creates a lot of mental health issues. You are absolutely gorgeous. I hope you know that.
I love that you put this out there Gwenny, totally relatable. You are fabulous and I always enjoy your try ons and topics. Lot's of shopping in New York to come 😎🦩🤩
There is nothing worse than being pigeonholed in terms of fashion, just because you aren’t a stick. Everyone deserves to be able to shop comfortable and fun designs regardless of their size. All options should be options to everyone!
Oh Gwenny I really get what you are going through, but I love the fact that you came home and had a glass of wine. Next, you were truthful about what occurred while shopping! I used to get so depressed and hard on myself! Not you, you got back out there and with my favorite Fendi bag! One thing I would mention is to get items altered to fit you! Then they will fit perfectly for your perfect self!
Not sure if you get Camilla there Gwenny. They have amazing sizing options and their designs are right up your alley! Both Dayle and I have lots of her clothing.
Harrods stocks a few pieces here & there, I keep my eye out for sizes. 👀 I know Dayle's not a fan of the prolific animal print, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it in the designs! You both look FABULOUS in your Camilla pieces! 😙👌🏼
I think you were very restrained, my I am an apple & there are many of us rant is long and emotional. I have been lighter and much heaver than I am now & the lighter I am, the more shops that sell clothes that don't fit. My best clothes are Kin by John Lewis, now discontinued 🤬 but have had some success with White Stuff and Monsoon, online as the shops never have the full range of sizes. As for underwear before Covid & Brexit, I could go to my local M&S to try a selection of bras on. Now I have a choice 2 styles to buy online. Hence, bras come from Miss Mary of Sweden surprisingly from Sweden, nickers from Waitrose as the John Lewis Alldays big girl pants are much better and I knit my own socks, AND SHOES, I love a sensible Clarks shoe but now in Cambridge & Peterborough they don't stock larger than a size 7 and you have to buy them online AS WOMEN ARE GETTING SHORTER AND LIGHTER 🤯😱🤬😫 I have plenty of issues regarding my self worth and this nonsense reinforces it every time I need clothes. I can go on much longer....
It was wonderful!!!! I have similar issues, but used to be a pear….now an Apple pear!!! Dressing this older body has completely wrecked my self esteem…I’m quite sure that’s why I don’t think twice spending on luxury handbags…they will ALWAYS fit!!! Thanks for taking us along…I always get great ideas from you!!!💖💖💖
I hear that, babe. I thought I'd left my body changing in surprising ways back in my early teens! Yet, here we are. Thanks, menopause. 🙄 Thanks to the fashion gods for fabulous handbags! 😉💖
When you are on the states go to Macys...they have an assortment of fashions for all sizes. Im an apple too. Also i am very tall. In the states we have plus sized stores and departments.
Thank you for making this video, Gwenny! I can relate to this as I have a big chest so shopping for tops, shirts and dresses can be difficult and I struggle with sizes and sometimes with certain brands I don’t really fit into anything properly. And that’s not really uplifting, is it 😅 but as you said, luckily we have handbags 😉😆 M&S is great, we have it here as well!
So relatable. I've always hated trying on clothes. I shop almost exclusively online now (even though I have to send a lot back) because it's easier to narrow all the options by size, sleeve length, style, color, and other things. From there I can toss the pieces that have the wrong collar or whatever for me. Often I'm still left with no options but sometimes there are a few I'm willing to try. And what you said about not liking how you looked at your thinnest. Same. I was going through some old hard drives yesterday and found photos from when I was a LOT thinner. I didn't like how I looked even then but, more importantly, the things required for me to get that thin were super unhealthy. It's not a weight I'd ever be able to maintain in a healthy or happy way. I hope you found something for the wedding. You can always shop in NYC, too. And keep in mind, of course, that there's no standardization for women's sizes so they really mean nothing. Don't put any self worth in them.
Hi, Gwenny, it's Antoinette! In NYC, I would try J. Jill, Frances Valentine (formerly Kate Spade's brand with her bestie), and Lauren Ralph Lauren for options. I've had good luck finding dresses for big events (weddings, graduations, parties, etc.) plus work attire. Talbots is another US brand that has a good range that might have some items of interest, and they are having sales constantly.
And you looked gorgeous in the blue and white dress. The blush dress was beautiful, too, but I see what you mean about feeling like you are part of the bridal party. On the other hand, it had a great fit on you and showed your beautiful figure.
Gwenny you always make me smile! I think the dresses that flared from the waist looked fabulous on you! I also think you always look fabulous when you show us the OTD. So this video….So yes, perhaps a tad overweight , but you can work on that, not for fashion but for your health. I love how you dress …….but sometimes I go shopping and absolutely nothing works and I come home empty handed and bummed out! You are a shining light Miss Gwenny, my words are sent with love!❤ Oh, and cheers from Colorado!!
Thank you Gwenny. Yes. Vinted has been my friend lately. I was a uk 30 now downsizing and am currently uk26. My dream is to go into Fenwick or similar and whop a frock on. This is why I spend my coin on bags because they don’t have to make me feel bad in trying them on. Bigger sizes in quality clothes pleeeeeeeaase.
Ugh I felt every bit of frustration with you Gwenny. Apple shape with big boobs is not a good combo! 🙋🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ dresses have always been a struggle for me. I kinda dread having to dress up for special occasions. Why I live in jeans and T-shirts. I feel. my wardrobe is boring cuz stuff doesn’t fit me probably. It’s a shame cuz like you said we do want to look good but seems like fashion industry has still not evolved enough for us larger ladies to truly fit in! Looking forward to seeing what you wear to wedding and what you wear to NYC!
I feel your frustration. I'm 32 and have been plus sized my entire life. I'm a US 20/22. There are far more choices now then there were when I was a teen. But there's still a huge gap. Regularly I see something I like and it doesn't come in my size. And the stores that do have plus are taking them out of stores. Target reduced their plus size sections to almost nothing here claiming we don't buy. Why do we have to shop online only? That's on top of the styles leaning either very young or very old. Nothing for women in the middle.
