DiskTuna is about File Recovery, JPEG Repair and Disk Utilities. DiskTuna is the name of my freeware disk defragger and optimizer. Visit www.disktuna.com for details. Lately I began specializing in recovery and repair of digital photos.
My videos will try helping you: - recover deleted files - recover files from reformatted volume - recover data from a NAS - recover RAID data - recover data from an SDD - recover data from RAW volumes - recover digital photos from memory cards - repair digital photos (JPEG) - recover JPEG data from RAW photos (NEF, CR2 etc.)
Hello, great tutorial! In my case, I lost the partition when trying to make a storage pool on Windows 11. Following your steps to recover, I get the message "overwriting existing partitions". I don't know how to proceed from there.
i tried, i don't know if they are repairable. I recovered them with a program, and in properties of the archive, it says that the archive is 3mb, so i think theres is a chance to repair them. But i don't know how to erase the corrupt data from the archive
Hi, i have the files and they are like 3mb 7.9 entropy, but i don´t know how to repair them. My jpeg repair does not look like yours. I was wondering if you can help me to recover them. Thanks a lot

No sorry not yet. 2nd part would be least interesting as it merely reading the NAND chips. 3rd part is transforming the 'dump' into a logical disk image. This is for example super simple case: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MS-Rbfez71A.html
I used RAW recovery to get back my photos and videos, but somehow the photos are all duplicated multiple times and with reduced or expanded sizes, what should I do? my PC is dead and we found that the SSD with windows in it is dead, so I used DMDE to get back the data on my harddisk. but under RAW recovery, i guess some 30% - 40% of the stuff are gone no where to be found, only to see many photos duplicated, a few videos are chopped up and became 10,000 JPEG pictures, and many videos recovered but cannot be played, possibly got corrupted...i am quite confused because if its my SSD that is bad, I dont see how it affected my harddisk that much to corrupte that many files...
On flash Memory, I have also seen unusable files and folders with garbage names. Sometimes only a few folders deep inside the folder tree. Are there any other solutions than raw recovery for such filesystem errors?
It depends. It really depends. Could be some FTL error, in which case I presume a chip-off may be worth a try. At file system level, if a directory entry for child directory is corrupt then that may explain it. Or something like USBC issues where command block is accidentally written to the drive. In all cases I have seen it inserts the command block shifting following blocks in same write, if this happens when it's writing a directory you'll get garbage. Quick question thank you for your video. I know you mentioned in the beginning of the video disc drill while scanning tent to deteriorate would this be the same for the other applications as well?
Yes. If you're dealing with an unstable and potentially failing drive then running any of these tools and performing exhaustive scans is a bad idea. So therefore it's good if these tools offers options to parse an existing file system, or perform a quick scan. Based on that you can then decide if it you just can quickly grab a few files or that it is wiser to image/clone the drive instead. Point of the video is that based on testing older versions I thought Disk Drill didn't offer these quick type scans, but latest version most definitively does.
Hello there! I want to thank you for these videos as they are awesome! Can you please share the BRAW ini file as well as I can't seem to execute the proper instructions from your BRAW video. Thank you again for your work!
Hello, thank you for the demonstration! Even though data and the entropy looks good and I have clear reference files shot on the same camera I get terrible results with the Patch approach. Do you have any idea what method I could use?
YKUSH tool is just an on/off switch. So logic that decides when to switch on/off (power-cycle) has to be provided by the software. USB Stabilizer is that AND much more but above all it virtualizes the patient drive so that no matter what happens to it, Windows does not interfere at any point. I consider the DeepSpar device the most useful data recovery device I ever purchased.
DiskTuna, I love tuna! This explanation was easy to follow for the advanced users. I still have some doubts for my particular scenario which some of the 'actual video' hex section seem like lost information. Like repeated patterns: "€(¢Š`QEQEQEQEQEQEQK" . My SD got corrupted and after recovering the files, I tried repairing the avi files but... no luck! I know this video is about mov or mp4, but this was really insightful. I will research more. Thanks for taking the time explaining the process. Erik. PS: don't waste time answering haters.
@@DiskTuna It was a very tiny camera that used old SD card format up to 32GB. I used to record my band gigs. But after 3 years, the SD card got corrupted. It prompted that the disk has no format. I did formatted it and run a recovery software that got back the AVI videos. But they only play one second and end. I know it will require more research but I'd be able to recover at least some parts. I have faith.
you just saved my fkn life dude, i was trying to delete a partition from my disk and i accidentally deleted one from an external drive that wasn't mine, thank you SO much, im so fucking happy right now
Mine doesn't look like yours. I've done Full scan and got tons of results but there's no tick boxes to the left of anything. I just have HFS I can expand, APFS and also RAW and I can expand them all but never any checkboxes or way to actually recover..
Hi! Unsure if you can help with my case but when I check the preview of my SD card, I am able to see the thumbnails perfectly fine but when I try to view the full photo, that's when it shows the greyed-out area. I tried recovering the card with a program and it seemed to repair the photos by retrieving the thumbnail but the issue with this is the extremely low quality. When I check the original file I do see some 00 lines but when I compare it to the same file but "repaired" I do see there aren't any 00 lines. I'm not exactly sure what to do in this case, if I even am able to do anything? Thank you in advance!
Oh my... I really want to follow what you are talking about. I really want to see and understand what you are showing, but... You are really a clever man I suppose, but you are not made for speeches. As you see I can communicate in english although I'm not a native english speaker, but I'm really stumbling over all those ah's, oh's hmmm's etc. your sentences come stumbling all the time. It is a pain to try to follow you... Please, do yourself a favour: Write a script, from that you can read on. It will get you an order in your thoughts. Start a sentence and speak fluently up to the end. And: Do use a smaller Display resolution, sync that with the video resolution!!! You are never using more then 1/4 of the screen, so the rest is just superfluous!
Oh my... Do yourself a favor, if it's all too cringe to watch, then just don't. Look, I can make a video like this in let's say an hour. If I'd start working with scripts, edits (cut bad parts, redo those) and all that it could easily take me half a day, if not more. I want to spend an hour, not half a day. Tip 1: Don't watch any of my other videos, they're all like this. Tip 2: Don't consider a career as motivational speaker, coach counselor or anything of the like, your people skills suck.
@@DiskTuna Sorry for having disappointed you. But do yourself also a favour: Don't ever consider a career as teacher, speaker or anything else where you want to talk to more than a handful of people. Your people missing skills suck! AND: Don't ever consider being in public, others may not have the same opinion about you as yourself. You'll be annoyed by others opinions! I Promise: You are on my black list...- I wou'nt try again!!
Will the performance difference be very drastic if I disabled TRIM ? Or should I just leave TRIM enabled? Just preparing in case my ssd got damaged and I wanna do some data recovery on it in the future.
Performance may suffer and wear may increase. This depends somewhat on specifics but as rule of thumb this applies and so it's wise to keep TRIM enabled. BTW, TRIM prevents recovery from data that was lost due to intentional deletions (file deletions, formatting a volume etc.), but does typically not prevent recovery from for example a corrupt or RAW volume.
Hello I ran my truncated mp4 along with a source file in Untrunc only to recieve this message...."untrunc cannot find 'mdat' atom in first 64mb". Is there any hope for me ever recovering this file?
Hello Sir When I use "repair (headers)" to fix my photos, I get the message "---262144 bytes---7.93 bits/byte---No SOS detected!---" Although the value on the screen is smaller than 7.98, I don't get any results when I perform the operation in the "Patch" section. Is there anything that can be done in this situation?
" I don't get any results" - What does this mean? You provide a valid reference file? This with the current version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sSDvNa7HOOA.html
@@DiskTuna I get the message ""I have some problems processing DSC_0535.JPG. Maybe the file is too corrupt. If entropy is not between 7.6 and 7.99 then the file probablycontains no JPEG data"" Probably there is no hope but , I want to try as hard as I can. Thanks for fast responfing. Thank you for your quick response.
@@DiskTuna I have many videos from DJI Osmo, but a lot of them can’t work. I’ve tried to figure it out by watching your videos (checking the hex code atoms), but I can’t find these atoms-just a lot of garbage. The file has a size, but I can’t play it. I’ve also tried many programs, but it still doesn’t work
@@DiskTuna The video is the same size now as it was before it got corrupted. I tried to repair it with Grau Gbr video repair and many other methods and got it from not playing at all to at least able to open it in vlc but it only shows a grey/pink teint.
I recovered the deleted files but when I try to open them it says that the files are not supported or it'll open the files but show weird characters every where.
@@YousufTamimi Clusters that were allocated to those deleted files can be overwritten at any time. Once this happens you may be still able to detect and recover the files, but they will be corrupt. Overwritten data can not be recovered, no.
The same thing is happening on my end - SSD, NTFS, no file changes since deletion of directory. Did full scan, pure fs, no matter which versions I try to recover of the folder the files show as correct name/size but the data is bad. It's on a Kingston a400 480gb sata SSD. Do I need to do something extra like disable trim? Or is it too late? I've done nothing to the drive since the deletion except reads.
Hi Disktuna, Firstly, thank you for these videos and software you legend! I am wondering if this same program and process can be used on CR3 files? Thanks
