Lovely to see the old Buses that are still around , when l was a young lad living in Lambeth Walk in South London going around in RF & RM London buses their tick over (idling)was very soothing to me with my hearing aids on , my school was a deaf unit in Brighton called Ovingdean Hall School for the deaf. Memories l will never forget , now retired & Living in Melbourne Australia 🦘🐨🐊👍

I attended Epsom School of Art & Design (now called the University of Creative Arts) from 1968. However i lived in Surbiton , so i had to pick up the 406 from the Ewell Road, which took me directly to Epsom. I also used to catch it to go into Kingston, if the (red) 281 or 283 didn't arrive on time. The best service, which never seems to be mentioned, was the 418, which was closer to my home in Berrylands. Always on time!

Interesting that you obtained one that had been converted for another purpose. Going back to the late 1970's I know of 2 that were converted to transport motorcross sidecar outfits, the rear was converted to an opening door, the cross member allowed ramps to be fitted to load and unload. The whole rear half was used as the workshop with the front half as the living space.

The Leyland Olympic really is a huge challenge, I'm an optimist but also realistic and the re-building work required may just be beyond the capability of your staff, that's not to say it couldn't be achieved, I personally feel the task is too great without the help of a full time bus manufacturing company.

The Isle of Man Road Services has one of eight MMN registered Leyland Olympics in preservation It's obviously not JAA but FOKAB could borrow it possibly?On a Manx holiday in 1970 my family and I were treated to a high speed trip from Ramsey to Douglas, an amazing performance for a then 20 year old bus.

@@ghalibmahmudlaskar5980 At the timing 07:46 of this video, he did say it is a Leyland 375 engine. However, that was back in the 1983. As what engine is in this vehicle today, I will need to double check again...
@hellowallace
@hellowallace Месяц назад
After double checking, the WCG 104 has the Leyland 375 engine since the 1980s (as in the video mentioned, coming from WLO 692) and a Leyland gear box since the 1990s. Hope this answered your question.

May it get rebuilt. I'm thankful the remains were saved, as it is such a rare type. When something like this happens, it's just too easy to lament "It's lost" and not make an effort to save anything.I wonder if they managed to salvage parts from any of the other wrecks when they were scrapped - I have known Gardner engines that have survived bus depot fires. I think that at bus rallies in the general area, such as Alton, that there should be cash collections for the rebuilding of the Olympic. I would happily pay. I don't do online giving myself.
@crazyleyland5106
@crazyleyland5106 4 месяца назад
I'm really glad that it has been kept, whether it gets fully restored or not. It's so easy to weep and wail "It's lost," without making an effort to save what's left. I wish that fire precautions could be tightened at places where heritage vehicles are stored, although it's easier said than done. Ring style CCTV maybe? I wonder if old theatre safety curtains could be installed in some places where heritage vehicles are stored, to act as a fire break? I assume they need replacing from time to time. I trust that re- usable items were salvaged off all the other buses (and Sherpa?) before they were scrapped. When one of my favourite VRs was destroyed in an arson attack, 30 years ago, its Gardner engine was retrieved, along with some of the other engines of 6 other VRs, 2 Olympians and a Tiger.
