The idea behind using these out of the water is to keep situational awareness while running or biking. And some races don’t allow in ear headphones due to safety concerns.
It defo give you bigger balls when pulling off kiteloops 😂 I tend to suffer a massive skill deficiency vs ambitions when riding with some heavy stuff playing 🤘🏻 Enjoy dude 🤙🏻
I ended up buying an iPad just due to the crazy cost of remarkable, just couldn't part with my hard earned cash for that price. I know people say it distracting etc, but hey I can watch movies, I can edit videos, I can draw and paint etc
Totally get that. I always have my MacBook with me so that's sorts out the comms, editing etc. Remarkable is a very specific device and yes, the price is defo a sticking point. Loads of used ones kicking about... usually used just a few times.
I really like this review. I have seen so many reviews for products that I feel like are solving problems that are not really problems. I don't care that I can't multitask, search, copy paste, etc on paper - that's why I like paper. It forces you to slow down and be intentional. I have ADHD so any kind of digital device can very easily destroy my productivity. I still don't think the price is justified for me, as I haven't run into the same issues you had with paper. My pocket notebooks haven't gotten out of hand, but I've been using them consistently for like a year. This really does look like a great device. I've seen one in person (not actually used it) and it looked great.
Totally agree the price is fairly high for what it is. It did however became part of my edc replacing other classic notebooks as it has simplified my life. I absolutely understand the ADHD part - not a big fan of the recent fake ADHD social media wave of “influencers” claiming it’s some special power… maybe, because they don’t have it? It’s a massive PITA in everyday life. Took me 30 years to understand I have it and another almost 10 to start managing my life around it. And having people adjust their expectations to my attention span too 😂 If pen and paper works for you dude, it’s for the best! And thanks for the kind words 🤙🏻
@@JakeOski It works perfectly on my MacBook Pro from 2016(2,7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7). I ended up getting a Toshiba Canvio Flex Silver 4 TB for my M3. I’ll use the T5 for something else.
That's so weird, that wee cable sorted my issues with T5 on both M1 and M3 Pro MacBooks. I'm pretty annoyed that Samsung still hasn't released a firmware update to these, especially since I've got 4... I've moved onto the rugged SanDisk - they just work out of the box. Sorry to hear that it didn't work for you dude :/
@@JakeOski Yeah, I got two different pairs (just to be on the safe side ;-)) of UseBean, and neither of one them worked. But I live in the PC world as well, so the T5 will be a great backup for that. I haven't seen any firmware update from Samsung which kinda sucks. Since this is a major problem. I'm happy for the people where changing cable worked. Unfortunately, for me. I did not work. And I can't sit around waiting for Samsung to do a firmware update.
@@davidfredriksson2113 for sure! With this little mess they've created I've moved onto other drives - being in South Africa with all my SD cards full to the brim and no way of backing stuff up to all my Samsung drives was pretty crap! Not a big fan of making emergency purchases (after having to drive 2h each way to find one). I specifically packed 4 drives just in case for the trip... all Samsung 😂
Bought size M from Jake's shop and already tried on the water. Comparing to my L Majestic this is a rocket. Definitely recommend the model of harness and Jake's shop!
You can't swim with BT - bluetooth signal doesn't penetrate water too well, some say they get away with having phone strapped to back of their heads but... I wouldn't recommend that. BT cuts off when one of the devices is under the water - hence why you can't stream music from your watch either. Just a tech limitation, hence the mp3 mode :)
HI Jake - my unit seems to lose it's charge when unplugged because the side power button only needs to be slightly touched to activate and its power just drains away. . I'm treating it like a bad child and putting it in its box now, so the side button can't be accidently turned on. Is this your experience? Also, I had a query, when you go to Auto Screen ON/OFF screen, you can toggle between ON and OFF. Is it OFF or ON when the word is illuminated in white, or, when it's black. I'm assuming that the function is activated when the word is illuminated. Hope this makes sense.
Needed a few days to get my bank back! The Auto Screen is ON when ON is on the white background - this basically shuts off the screen after few seconds. I haven't notice any bleed or battery life deterioration and it's still getting used and abused so defo check this setting :)
I have bought the cables in hopes it would work but it still says disconnected. I have also followed other videos instruction which led me to restarting my computer & lowering down the privacy settings & it still doesn't seem to work. I have a Macbook Pro M3 Pro chip with Sonoma 14.4 currently installed. I am not sure what other steps to take. Maybe this information might be enough for you to help me out.
Have you connected the drive to any other computer (anything that doesn't run silicon processor - like older Macs or PC's) to confirm the drive itself isn't fried?
I received these headphones the other day with 32 GB of memory. I liked the headphones themselves but not the mp3 player. I did not find in this player a file search function or a rewind function, just flipping through files one by one. The controls are the same in the smartphone app. It's unbearably long and boring. It's like an old cheap MP3 player. And why does such a player need 32 GB memory?
They've had the folders skipping in the previous Openswims so I hope they'll add this back in with a software update. You can go back on a song by pressing and holding volume - for 2 seconds.
Quick question mate, if you've got the time. Let's say I use the music from Epidemic Sound and upload it while my subscription is active. Does that mean I'll get a copyright claim once my subscription ends? And that I will always need to be a paying customer in order to keep my past music uploads copyright free? Sorry if its a silly question but I need to know the details before I buy the subscription.
If you publish piece of content when your subscription is still active, that posted piece of content will stay covered and can be monetised forever. I've recently found that Artlist's offering of music got better too, nicer quality tracks especially for client / promo work. The addition of AI voiceovers comes in handy more often than I thought I'd use it. I'd probs go with Artlist now to be fair. And ask away if you have any questions dude, it's important to get the license right for your needs!
@@JakeOski thanks for the response! One more question: I went ahead and signed up at Epidemic Sound because it was cheaper and the library larger. I subscribed and got a 7 day trial. They didn't deduct anything from my card so I'm assuming they'll deduct it after 7 days are over. I went ahead and downloaded some tracks. Will these tracks count in the subscription after I'm able to post once the trial ends and the billing cycle begans? Or I should stop editing them into my video and wait for the paid subscription to start and redownload? Sorry, this got a bit lengthy
@@JakeOski so it doesn't matter if it's downloaded before? I can't add my account to the safelist until the subscription starts and I've already edited a big chunk of music into the video..
The most interesting question for me- are they resistant to salt water? I really want to buy this ones as swim a lot, but I also do it in the sea pretty often. I have already kill my Apple Watch with salt water, but they was old, but I am scared about this nee and expensive headphones. I saw you swim kites, was it in the sea or not??))
Is the microphone through bone conduction as well? I’m wondering if It would make it easier to take calls while cycling vs air pods etc which drown out your voice with wind and the person you are talking to has no chance of hearing you.
Nope, the previous Openswim headphones had that (pressing and holding + button you were skipping between the folders) and for some reason Pro doesn't have that... It might come in a firmware update... I hope!
On your final comment about re-buying or not, you said you would buy an Apple Watch. So my question. Is possible with an Apple Watch Geofence, real time and history?
Awesome review Jake.. I don't swim as much as I'd like, but I do like headphones that I can use after a good bike/run workout and straight to the shower! And, I also don't care much about sound quality, other than I just need to be able to hear them. I've broken a few Shokz due to this habit of mine, so this would be great if it works as advertised
Agreed. I've been a user of the regular Shokz for years and used to swim with music a long time ago. A never bought Shokz's swim headphones because they are really limited (no bluetooth) but also was having to buy a new set of regular Shokz every year because my sweat would eventually kill them. Finally, a pair that is both totally waterproof AND bluetooth AND mp3 capable! I wear them for everything and they just work. Yes, they need help with the music selection while swimming... but that hopefully is coming and it's nice to have it at all. And it's so cool to come in from a bike ride or run and just go straight into the shower or jump in the pool without having to worry about getting them too wet. Splashproof is ok, but truly waterproof is way better and more convenient for sure.
I just bought them swimming mode give a great quality when the ear are fill with water. When you use the earplugs the quality is not that good and the swimming mode is awful. on land they are ok but I will not recommande if you main goal is not swimming
Yeah the sound quality in general is nowhere near normal buds but I haven’t found any that are so unobtrusive as Shokz when running or doing anything vigorous.
Ordered 2022 model. Saved £140. Ordered a size smaller because my mystic majestic harness is uncomfortable after 5 years of active wear. I believe the foam has died. Hopefully this will sit better and will not cut the ribs or the pelvis 😂 I rode myself out another week. I should order 2024 model and compare
I just took a look at my harness and noticed that it is actually size L. Then I cancelled my order of the 2022 model. And ordered a new 23/24 model at your website! Thanks for the vid
Yes that's beacause I couldn't find the freeride spreader bar that I use for big air as I never unhook. I ordered the freeride spreader bar on another site where I found it in stock
@@bazslade6456 I don't know what to say, but that hasn't been my experience at all. They work fine for ocean swims, but in the pool they just don't seem to be able to handle the flip turns, at least for me, and I'm no longer 20 so my speeds, and distances, are reduced. (5/6K every day is a great distance!) For the pool I use the Finis Duo. They attach to the goggle straps and therefor don't have any problems with flip turns.
I don't think thats a good product in general, because the GPS seems to be faulty. After switching the watch on in the morning, my son could be tracked on the way to school but after a while the GPS or the status updates stops working. and we are not the only user having those BIG problem. So, no, the watch doesn't do what we bought it for, it's a buggy product and whats even annoying is the fact, that there is no "really" customer service available at XPLORA, even if you reach someone via email (after days waiting) they can't help...... so, is there a "better" product for kids out there (especially incl. school mode) or is this bad product the best on the market?
Sorry to hear you're having so many problems with yours, thankfully the GPS seems to be fine with my daughter's one so far. Yeah the software is slow and glitchy - as mentioned in the vid, the random log outs are annoying too. We've looked at loads of alternatives and she'll end up with an Apple Watch soon, there are Series 6 and 7 going cheap on marketplace.
@@JakeOski Yes, I have heard a lot about the Apple watches, unfortunately you need another Apple device and our household has turned to the Android world with all devices. But Android also has such watches. Unfortunately, they lack a school mode and our son is only 9, so we have to think about it. Thank you for your answer.
@@therealsprint you can have a scheduled do not disturb on them too I guess? It’s defo part of the market that’s not really catered for. From all the kids-specific watches Xplora seems to be the best there is, which doesn’t say it’s brilliant. Good luck on your hunt though! :)
@@JakeOski For us, the school mode is not exclusively about switching off notifications, but rather about the fact that no apps should be operated (distraction). But we will find something. Thanks.
Is the sound the exact same as the current openruns? I tried on some open run pros and found that the “bass” they added in those just uncomfortably vibrated on the sides of my head and actually preferred the normal openruns instead lol. I know you said these are more punchy so I’m curious if that’s in comparison to the current gen openruns
This might be a pretty personal thing, I've found RunPro's being a bit annoying at first vs the standard ones but I got used to it fairly quickly. OpenSwim Pro are kinda similar in terms of vibrations - you can defo feel getting massaged by bass but the sound is a tad cleaner. It's something you'd definitely need to try - I think you can always send them back via Amazon if you feel they're giving you too much of a weird buzz :)
I consider the vocal mode as a bass reducer. .. reduces the vibrations while sacrificing music quality when you've got to have high volume. Best for calls and podcasts.. When it comes to surface swimming, the Achilles heel of my G7 is the touch control that will activate play/pause in water. Otherwise it's far better for sound and is proving just as durable otherwise. (volume/track physical buttons are also much easier to locate/use)
@@JakeOski Great video, thanks for putting it out! I see some people saying they put their phone on in a waterproof bag or slipped their smart watch into the goggles to make the Bluetooth work. Do you think that could work?
It’s about BT signal not travelling through the water well, I might give it a shot with Apple Watch and these and report back but usually you’re looking at something tiny as 4” of range when submerged.
The band that goes behind your neck is what really takes my attention due to it being possibly taken off by the water when you are diving, I'm planning to buy it to use it during swimming competitions so I could get myself hyped up when swimming, I'd like to know if it stays on if you dive head first into the water in a streamlined position and with currents caused by constant heavy splashing when doing some swimming strokes.
I can't tell if they'll stay when diving from a certain height but given that they're staying on my head during pretty significant wipeouts when kitesurfing and surfing I'd say so!
Thanks for the good review Jake. I want to buy a new harness and am unsure between the 2020 version and the 2023 version. The 2020 version is now €160 cheaper (€299 vs €459). Do you think the differences between the versions are worth €160?
Hey dude, the 2020 version served me well since the release, it's actually still going strong with one of my mates I've given it to. It kinda depends on your build as well - ideally you'd want to try both shells on and see how they sit. I've found after using the 2023 version for longer now that it is easier to push it back down even when done up after massive crashes or powerful loops and generally sits better for the most part. I'm 5'8" and it feels a bit better than the 2020. Also, it's a budget thing and how often you kite. When I'm buying my gear I always calculate price vs usage. Not sure if this helps? :)
Been riding an electric skateboard, absolutely amazing, the only issue is the uneven road. Personally, I never go that fast on the electric skateboard (like you said), just cruizing along. I would recommend a power bank or find a local restaurant where you could recharge your electric skateboard. It's kind of amazing you could go for miles, find a restaurant (like StarBuck or Library), recharge it in one hour, and go again for miles. There are also public transportation system such as the buses. You're in Europe, I'm in the United State, but god damn, you have to watch out for these cars. There's a good reason for not going super fast on these electric skateboard, all it takes is one rock to see you flying, or accidentally suddenly breaking too fast could send you flying. I've had my fair share of experience when I first started. This skateboard is no joke, treat it with respect.
I've broken most of the stuff in my body by now between windsurfing, surfing, kitesurfing, mountain bikes, skis, skateboards, Onewheels and others 😂 Trying to be sensible but shit happens anyway 😅
Thanks. Just to clarify (because I am slow...😂) During my subscription period, I can use the same song in two separated videos on the SAME channel. If I cancel later, I can still monetize those old videos. Correct? (Thanks, Subbed)
Yeah loads of creators use the same background track for their talking heads videos. If you cancel your subscription all videos published during active subscription period will remain covered and monetised :)
@@JakeOski THANKS 😊 🙏🏽 You are appreciated. Hope you have a great day. Going to delve into your other vids soon. You are a great content creator. 👏 Good editing. All the best to ya!
Good job dude im shit with diy stuff as well. The fact that you did it yourself is great. Felt super accomplished when i out a new air intake on my car without taking it to a shop
Most cities are getting gridlocked. Not sure about the rules on PEVs in individual states but I often leave my car behind and get onto an esk8 or OW to get around. We’ve got low emissions zones popping up in every major city and you get $70 fine each day you get in with cars that are neither Euro6 or hybrid/electric. It’s bonkers here mate.
