I can imagine the sense of satisfaction when it all worked. I was taking some 360 footage in a stone quarry and yeah you can guess what happened...i will give this a go as like your board says..."whats the worse thing that can happen" right :)
Good job dude im shit with diy stuff as well. The fact that you did it yourself is great. Felt super accomplished when i out a new air intake on my car without taking it to a shop
Of course, they made it harder to do so. It is a shitty company. Had Insta360 Go, X2, X3, and I was even dumb enough to buy Ace pro. Really bad products.
I just removed the lense from my X3 by tapping it with a metal tool to crack the scratched lense. It came out easily once cracked without damaging the inner lense. There is an O-Ring underneath the outer lense and it obviously just snaps in place since there is no glue. I am awaiting the new lense. I have seen videos and they do just snap into place. Just be careful when removing the pieces so that you don't lose the O-Ring underneath.
@@richardmaxwell5371 I'm not sure you'll be able to just push in a new lens on a X3. The lens on the X3 is held down by a metal threaded ring, in which you push the lens in, and then thread the ring together with the lens back to the camera. And to do that you definitely have to remove the cover from the side of the camera you are working on. Still, if you were able to find a way around that, it would be great to see it 👍
@@rubenvor I have watched videos of it being pushed back in and clicked in place. They wanted to take them back out to glue them which is not necessary and they couldn't anyway. They wouldn't come back out without breaking them. There was no metal ring when I took the old lense out and I took it out from the front. I cracked the lense and took the pieces out being careful not to damage the lense underneath which is probably why the O-Ring was still in place. I didn't pry it out like people on many of the videos did which seemed to damage the area around the lense. My camera has not been marred in any way and is perfect. Just have to get the new lense in which will be here on Wednesday. I won't glue it in place since it was not glued originally and I took it out very carefully. There was no metal ring.
@@richardmaxwell5371 That sounds great! Please let me know how that goes once you receive the new lens, as I have to replace one on my X3 too. BTW, the ring I'm talking about is threaded, it only comes out by opening the camera case and unthreatening it out or cutting it. The new lens should come with a new ring too.
A good tip from me, try to keep the music at a lower level than your voice. It's very annoying to keep turning the volum up to hear what you say, and in the next secound, turning it down because of the loud music.
Not sure if this will work on the One RS! On the X2 it just popped in but I've added a touch of Sikaflex since my dumb hands slipped and I took out that bit of a notch. Just be careful with any super-glue kinda stuff as it will oxidise and leave oil-like rainbow residue on both inside and outside of the lens.
There’s also an option of ungluing the whole cover, which seems to work too… I’m not sure if this was the best way to deal with this but certainly worked. Apart from the drill slipping a bit and shaving off the collar. Not a biggie though :)
I’ve no idea bud, sorry, the 1in version has a totally different lens system. Again, sucks they’ve not done it as a twist on… sorry to hear that you’ve got an issue with yours :(
It got stuck on but I’ve used a touch of sikaflex on the bit I broke off. Just don’t use any of the super glue kind of stuff as it will leave a layer of residue on the inside and outside of the lens when it evaporates.
The real question is why they didn't just make it removable. Turn 180 degrees and lift a flap that locks in place kind of setup. Even their own sticky lenses completely suck....
After me taking that edge off... it's a bid doggy 😂 Since making that vid I've managed to take it off (it was just snuggly in) and add some sikaflex glue, had in the water and it seems to be working fine but I can't guarantee anyone else's will too. One thing to mention is that to avoid any 'superglue' kind of glues (like Gorilla) as they will leave oxidation (if that's the right word) on the inside and outside of the lens and lens cap.
