Starter bike should be what you feel like you can handle and then proving yourself right. To assume everyone is on the same level would be wrong. T120 is the perfect starter bike, if thats your confidence levels. I love that for you bro ❤
Fully agree. Listen to this guy folks. I have just done 10k miles on it. We will be doing a look back over the 10k and deciding if it was the right choice. Be sure to sub and stick around for that
It’s a good question and I was close to doing that. However for roughly the same price I wanted to get a bike that I wouldn’t “outgrow” I feel if I get a T100 after a few months I would be ready for a larger bike. I’ve done some massive trips on the T120 and I feel the T100 would fall short on here
What’s the overall cost of ownership Mpg? As just looking at one as my only bike for commuting and weekend get always Does it generate much engine heat?
hi mate, MPG you are looking at around 60 which is pretty good. Really doesn't cost much to keep running. The biggest expenses are the standard annual service and insurance which is the same for any bike. Never had any issue with the engine heat. Should be a solid bike for both fun trips and commuting
Many thanks for replying Looking at used one found a nice 2019 model which I’ve been told is easier to decat then newer model and not much of a difference to warranty new version
Who went to this years DGR??? - Check out the website to donate to a great cause. Also get yourself lined up for next years, we'll be doing this special event for the foreseeable future
No, this not a tent it is little better than a bivvy bag. You cannot sit up, so cannot prepare food, or eat, so it is a heavy crash bag. So you out in the elements on you bike all the time, except for sleeping, that makes life so tough. There are plenty of lighter tents that are tents.
Great video guys. How you finding the x pipe on the speed twin now you have done a few miles. Do you find it too loud? I’m thinking of getting my speed twin done with my after market exhaust. Keep up with the great videos guys. 👍
Thanks Rob, the xpipe is awesome, just the right level of loudness and the additional pops and gargles you get are a joy to the ears, if you can do it you won't regret it! It's just the install that's a pain in the ass 🙃 hopefully more content shortly! 🙏
Great video. I enjoy seeing a different type of scenery than I see in the Southwest US. I have a question for James. You mentioned the TomTom you use. I have found that using Google Maps on my iPhone is not working out that well. The batteries are just about done at the end of 4 or 5 hours and also Google Maps routes that you create on a desktop do not transfer to a mobile device correctly if you have dragged the route when planning the trip to avoid a place. So.... How do you create your routes on the TomTom, or do you just set a destination and do what TomTom says? How long do the batteries last, or do you have a feed on your bike? P.S. -- You contributed to my decision to get a Speed Twin 1200 as my first bike this January. I have a bit more than 3,000 miles on it now and it is great. It needs a wind screen since we do so much high-speed driving out here, it also needs cruise control and some other features that I can't add to it. But overall a great bike. Mine is a 2023 - bright red like yours.
If you use your phone I would suggest getting a wireless charging quad lock, that might fix all your issues. The tomtom is great as It has a wireless charging mount that keeps it plugged into the bone battery all the time, failing that it has about a 6 hour battery life. I tend to just punch in a destination, turn off motorways and toll roses and then select from 1 of 3 options it gives me. You can manually create routes on the app or download tomtom rider routes and yours from the app as well which is a great addition. I like having the dedicated tomtom as it doesn't require cellular data so always pulls a GPS signal and works a treat for finding unique roads unlike Google maps. Glad to hear I influenced your decision, very glad to hear you went for the speed twin in red, stay safe and enjoy riding! 😎🏍️
@@NoPlaceToBe. Thanks very much. That is good information about the TomTom. I will look into it as well as having a line for charging run up to the handlebars.
Loool, didn't have to pay for it, just can't monetize our video, but it's ok, for some reason our adsence account doesn't work and we've never made a penny 😆🙃
Absolutely awesome trip, gents, and I like how you documented it. I came across you today looking at Wingman Of The Road reviews and decided to keep watching. I’ve been to a number of the places you visited but still yet to do north of Ullapool and over the top. I’m from the northeast about 45 mins east of Inverness and same north of the Cairngorms, so no excuse really. 😂 I’d definitely recommend the northeast corner as well if you get back up here. Braemar, Ballater and the like - some lovely roads. See you on the road some day. Ride safe.
Thanks for the great video! This is totally off topic, but what make / model is that leather jacket you're wearing in the video? Looks nice and I like the zippered forearm vents.
Thanks Dave, means a lot to hear your support and your appreciation for the NC500 videos, we often look back on them with fun memories, it was an incredible trip. Hopefully more to come soon, weather pending! 🤞🙌

Dear bikers, question, which seat is the one on the Bonnie T120? it looks comfortable. Please mark and I will see if it is available in Germany. Tk u in advance. CMD from Germany.
Recently brought the rider 550 and learnt a few things from thus video. Alot ice watched woffle too much about it so I loose the concentration. You guys are fab. Be nice to know what media your using so you can record your audio on your gopro. I have a mod thing for my gp10 but not sure how to hook it up to my cardo bold to chat on my gopro as don't fancy lots of wires off my helmet. Ant suggestions
Thanks Lisa, we have a video on the channel showing you how to hook up your coms via your cards to GP10, hopefully it's of some use and easy to find! A fair few wires though is the only issue 😕
For the most part it is. The main difference is the weight and how the T120 flows around the roads where as speed twin attacks them the bit more. That’s the best way I can describe it
I rode a Bonny in the 1960s. Australia. Had a few bikes since. Nothing compares. Retired now and would like to return to riding. Seeing the new Bonneville T120 with the modern touches is just awesome and gladdens my heart. (But the price does other things to my nervous system.) I sat on one at a dealers recently and started it up. I felt absolutely at home. As if I'd never been off it. It fitted like a glove. Thanks for the video. These POV videos looking over the bars at the road, and picking a line with the clocks right there, is just magic. Add the sound of that wonderful motor and...well. You are right about seeing yourself in the shop windows. It's sort of funny, but being on a Bonneville is kind of who I am. Just the thought of it brings some inner peace. Even when I don't own one. Is that crackers? I used to take my then girlfriend out on it back then. We're still married.
I bought a new Thruxton R in 2016. I have other bikes but find the riding position of the Thruxton best for my aging 69 year old back. I fitted the Triumph quick release panniers and have done a lot of touring with the bike. Why not have a light sporty bike with great suspension when riding hard day in and day out? I also fitted the factory fairing which works very well, even in strong crosswinds. Longest tour so far 4500 kms. Longest single day 1100 kms from Twin Butte , Alberta to Vancouver BC in one long day. I was still able to walk afterward!
Thruxton was a close one for me too. But for sure touring and longer trips it would’ve been difficult hence the T120x Would love a lighter sportier bike to whip out for some days.
The Thruxton isn't at all difficult on longer trips. I have done some real long trips with it. I use the Triumph quick detachable panniers, they work great! The Thruxton would be too cramped for 2 up touring. It's only good for solo touring. With the comfort dual seat fitted it will haul 2, but I wouldn't want to try touring with it. The T120 would be much better for 2 up touring and 2 up riding in general.
The bench seat and vintage styling is drawing me to this bike. Your paying 10,000 but were being charged 13,000 here in the states. The Kawasaki 900 that people are comparing this to is available but just seems thrown together without alot of attention to detail. It's just fast. And in no way, shape, or form compares to the T120. It's just simply a gorgeous bike.
I managed to pick it up second hand for around 9K GBP. Not sure what the markets like in the states, The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten ahah. Hope you get the bike you want mate
I have the Toucan and I love how comfortable it is... It's heavy but since I am driving a GS doesn't really matter that much, unless you'll do off-road. It's a very good back rest actually...
Speed Twin....oil leaking piece of crap. How do I know? I have one (2019). In the shop for 3rd time. Once for oil pump and twice for stator wire leak. Should have stuck with a metric bike, but noooo...I wanted a European Triumph, as in Europeeeeing oil all over the damn place!
The swags are better. Those things are made in China with cheap materials. Save your money and buy a quality Australian swag. These are not 2 man tents if you want to sleep
Ive had my 2017 T120 for three years and have never looked back. The only bike i like the styling of more is the bonnie bobber and it isn't quite as practical for what i use my bike for, so i made the correct choice, hands-down
Nice spin on a sunny day after workout, Coffee “race” - perfect day/ ride on a SpeedTwin/ Bonneville 🫶🏻✨ ride safe, greetings from the Black Forest/ Freiburg (still haven’t bought the desirable SpeedTwin, while getting around on a GS 🙄😅).
I purchased the Knox Urbane Pro Mk3 in July 2023. I’m a weekend warrior and I’ve put less than 40 hours of use on my jacket when the cuffs began to fray. I wrote the company directly as well as sending photos, to which they responded , that the frayed cuffs were a result of repeated abrasion from gloves, or likely wear from the Velcro closure on gloves. They said that they would not replace the jacket or refund my money. I was disappointed to say the least, particularly when “abrasion resistance“ is the company’s advertisement lead. Clearly, the material used at the cuffs is flimsy at best, and inconsistent with the durability of the rest of the jacket. I pride myself on taking meticulous care of my equipment, and for the company to suggest that the use of gloves on a motorcycle jacket caused this premature wear and damage is ridiculous and outrageous. These companies have a captive audience as well as regulatory capture to inflate their prices, and to advertise an abrasion resistant armored shirt that is now literally falling apart at the seams after less than 40 hours of use is shameful.
Hmmm interesting, i do change my outfit around a lot between jacket and Knox armour so it’s not been battered that much at this point, Will keep an eye on it
Hi, I am thinking of swapping my 900 scrambler for this, I am only afraid of the foot positioning. I like this more on t120. Buy i like the looks of this bike...😊.
Absolute cracking video lads and watching this video has made me want to get a T120 triumph boulevard hopefully trade my Harley-Davidson sports glide for one very soon safe travels lads and thank you for the video 🏍️🇬🇧
I bought a 2023 T-120 Black because it's maybe just a bit better for touring but it was difficult to choose between the two. I had a Speedmaster prior to this bike but I rode sport-tourers prior to that.
