This channel was created to help inspire Phys Ed Teachers and give them some ideas that I've found helpful over the years. I've been teaching elementary PE since 2007. I also have lots of other awesome resources on my website at ThePEspecialist.com.
That's our stopping signal you can see how I explain it to kiddos and our other routines and management protocols here: www.thepespecialist.com/firstweek/
Thanks Ben. I went through a similar progression at my last school of 11 years! ATtending PTO meetings was vital for me. I retired 2 weeks ago, but I know the incoming teachers will have a strong base!
I love the interaction, student thinking, sharing, cueing, and excitement for learning, cooperating, and trying. This is a brilliant learning opportunity for children in a super student friendly environment. Thanks for sharing!
Love it! Those are a lot of steps 😂. I follow up the same cues from overhead throw. They already know : -hand behind the ear, -side to target, and -Step and throw. For batting I just adjust to bat: -Grip behind the ear, -Side to target, -Step and Swing. Kindergarten did great with Half cut noodles and gator balls.
Not sure if there is an "official size", but Ours are 15x15 which I designed when we redid our floors, I've seen smaller ones, but it's Waaay more fun to play on a bigger court
I was hired as the new PE teacher 2 weeks ago and I walked into a PE office which looks like the equipment has just been thrown into the room for the past 3 years...NO organization what so ever. I'm overwhelmed and I don't know what half the stuff is for. I came to you for ideas on how to organize....Thank you for mentioning the PVC hurdles....I saw some of those in the office and was going to throw them away..LOL. I also have one of those huge pink balls...what do you use that for? Do you have a video for that? You will totally be my go to guy for PE ideas!!!
Oh no! I think that's sadly the state of many equipment rooms, although I could never function like that 🤣. The big pink ball is a Kin Ball, you can do lots of activities with them but my fav is monster ball www.thepespecialist.com/monsterball
I did it this week and they were pumped to hit their license. It was fun to do it! My favorite was flat tires jumping. What do you have them do for going over the hill and under a bridge?
Thank you endlessly for sharing this video and the Jump Rope Trick Chart! Jump Rope caught fire at our school this spring thanks to this organized approach!!
I am doing this for my field day because our running long jump pit is no longer available. What's the distance that you typically start the ropes apart at? Thank you!!
We start really easy, probably 1-2 ft and then slowly spread them out - with Kindy you can start even closer and with older kids closer to the 2ft range probably - modify and do what works for you
For all my videos I use an editing program called Final Cut Pro X (Mac only), although if your starting out I would recommend using iMovie for widescreen or trying out clips for square videos www.thepespecialist.com/clips/
You're giving very good pointers for kids but you didn't even pick up the rope until 9 minutes into a 17 minute video and then once you were showing the kids they are made into some sort of cartoon instead of just using regular video with overpowering music that's not needed. You can barely see how the kids are trying to do it which is what other kids learn from.
This is a video that highlights what teachers should be doing when teaching kids how to jump rope - it was created to help teachers/parents to know how to help their kids not really for kids to watch and learn how to jump rope
@@ThePESpecialist Actually, I liked the cartooning effect; helped to protect the children's identities. How did you do it? What software did you use. Also, great lesson, by the way.
Hello any tips for a new pe teacher ? I went to school for elementary education and was offered pe I did play college baseball but I have no idea how to teach pe
Hello! I can't find the documents with positive points and negative points on Mike's web site. Do you know where I can find it, please? Thanks! Awesome video
All grades, but I give 3-5th the option to use a foam tennis ball if they want more of a challenge, it just depends on their skill level and how much work we've done with Paddle Skills that year how many kids can actually use a ball - but any age can use a balloon
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED!!! YOU PRESENTED A TOP-NOTCH LESSON EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! I teach 3rd grade, all subjects, at a small private school, and we have a talent show each year. Two years ago, I choreographed a jump rope routine for 3 of the girls and they were incredible! Now they are in 5th grade and asked for my help again. They brought a friend, tho, who is a beginner. You have just given me the tools I needed to bring her into the routine without making her feel inadequate next to their high speed tricks and so forth. THANK YOU!!!
