I can't wait to get into something like this. I have an Avata 2, which I've been having a blast with. The A2 noise is a big improvement over gen 1, but its still too loud for some situations. Once the goggles 3 get unlocked I'd like a fun little ripper to have in my toolkit. They look like a ton of fun.
I think Walksnail is a great balance between both systems. Great range and penetration, but not quite as good as 03, and great latency and flexibility for 1s applications like HDZero, but not the lowest latency or best implementation of analog compatibility. There is always a trade off, but I agree with you the balance of the Avatar/Walksnail system is excellent 👍. If I had to pick only one system, it would probably be WS
@@ronniequalls7217 it is their technology side that I am not sure will catch DJI, especially with 04 on the horizon that is a substantial step from 03, which was a substantial step up from the original FPV system that shares a lot of similarities to the current Walksnail hardware. I am also a little concerned about long term support for the goggles since it seems they have already moved on completely from the V1 goggles for the goggles x.
@@Nathan_Adams I’ll have to check on the 04 system , I’m in the market for a digital system but not in a hurry, gonna wait to see this battle play out , for about another year or so , until then I’ll stay analog !!!
I will record and post a run on auto. I did not include it in the video because it looked basically Identical to the performance on channel 1 at 40mhz.
I appreciate you taking the time to run these tests. I agree that different settings will be better at different locations. I fly alone 100% of the time. My understanding is that if that's the case setting my goggles at 40hz/50mnps in auto is supposed to offer the best range and penetration. What I don't understand is that with those settings my performance will be inconsistent depending on the day in the exact same locations. Also, for some reason there's no way I could get the same range if I flew the test in your video. I have the goggles Integra (faa & ham hack) and 3 different kwads all set the same on the 03 air unit system. I feel like I should be getting better range/penetration but I can't think of any else I can do to improve it? Thanks!
It is shocking how much the RF interference can change and effect the video systems. If you dont have an issue, leaving it in auto is the easiest and the performance is generally excellent. If you are flying longer range or you have a spot that has alot of wifi (which does channel hopping), finding the right channel can get you more consistentcy in your signal, atleast that has been my experience.
I ordered Goggles 2 to fly with my Mavic 3 Pro. From all my research here it looks like the best option for those drones. My goal is to just get the immersion affect and to be able to see fine details that I can't see on a RC controller screen with sun glare on it. I will post a video review on how Goggles 2 work with Mavic 3 Pro and RC controller 2 after I get some practice in with this. Only found one like that so far and it was from a few months ago. Probably before later firmwares.
The goggles 2 work well with the Mavic 3 series. I have done some flying with the goggles, but I tend to prefer using the RCN1 (the regular remote) and an iPad mini because I have more access to the camera control settings and can see the top down map along with the video feed. I will recommend that you bring a friend/spotter with you the first time you fly with them because it is nice to have someone watching your back while you get comfortable being in public with zero visual situational awareness.
@@Nathan_Adams yes they usually kick me out every time so I just hurry and send it. Last time I went actually the security guard said we had to leave but he was pretty cool, black guy, young, he was asking questions about the drones and stuff I actually have him in my video I believe
Wah ! That's a hell of an edit ! Your sound design is superb and so rare to hear on YT. You've done a truly fabulous job of it and your FPV flight is great. You do deserve a ton more of subscribers ! Big GG and thumbs up
Thank you 🥂 It was one of those times where stuff just started to come together. The color grade is still not perfect, but I could not sit on it any longer 😂
I'm coming from a Jumper T-Lite modded with AG01 gimbals. When I bought it and upgraded it last year, I thought it was the greatest thing ever. But it seems Jumper's quality is truly bad and the internals are starting to fail. So I ordered a pocket this week. So far I've only test-hovered a whoop, but I'm impressed so far. The shell quality feels really nice and the frosted white shell looks cool with the internal LEDs. I thought I'd have a hard time getting used to the shoulder buttons instead of switches, but I think they're actually pretty thoughfully placed. I agree they should maybe put the momentary either on top or on the other side. I don't have a need for the pot dial on the other side. Personally, I also think the gimbals feel like higher quality than the stock Zorro gimbals. My Zorro gimbals felt very creaky. The Pocket feels pretty solid. Overally, I'm pleasantly surprised at what you get for the price. Ultimately, I'll probably end up getting a Boxer, but I'm gonna run the Pocket all summer and re-evaluate when Whoop racing season starts.
I am still loving the pocket, it is holding up well to both normal use and my son's (a toddler) love of the bright green/yellow. It is a tough little radio and the gimbals are still surprising to me. If they made a mini mini AG01 I think that may make it very close to my favorite radio!
I had to use the Mob 8 for a gig that required an ultralight 03 air unit feed for a live broadcast, I have been tempted to get another one and drop HDZero or a Vista on it for more of a playful flying small quad
Especially starting out that seems to be a good plan. Eventually having multiple systems isn't a bad idea depending on what you get into when it comes to flying FPV. If DJI had small whoop vtxs or HDZero offered a two way transmission/retransmission system, then I feel it could be the "best" system. Avatar is currently in the middle and offers some advantages of both, but is not the best at any one thing.
@@El_Muffy Avatar is a system that is really similar to the Vista from DJI. It is made by Caddx and has a decent amount of options for VTX and cameras. Since I like to use a product for 6+ months before making a review and have not purchased a set of goggles and vtxs for myself, I have not felt comfortable making a review video. I have flown the system a bunch, borrowing friends goggles and quads, so I feel comfortable saying it is a good middle ground and worth considering.
Just getting into FPV, going with DJI video. Still practicing on SIM, but I’m thinking this quad with a Runcam Nano camera to save some weight and cost. Will be flying mostly indoor and backyard. Am I on the right track?
If you just want to gently cruise around and get footage, the Mob 8 is great. The one downside to going with the run cam nano version is there is no onboard recording, so if you're looking to get good video, your left only with the DVR on the goggles which is okay. You can always upgrade later to the 03 version if you want higher quality video. If you're looking to fly more freestyle, flip, spins dives, etc... It is probably one of your better small drone options for DJI. Because of the weight, even with the smaller air unit, it can be a challenge to fly indoors because of the power/speed needed to compensate for the heavier drone. This is pretty much why analog is king when it comes to indoor flying, followed by Avatar HD/walksnail and HDZero. For backyard freestyle, depending on the size of your backyard, with DJI, three or three and a half inch seems to be the Goldilocks size. They are small enough and light enough to be fun in a smaller environment, quiet enough not to disturb too many people, but fast enough really to tear it up outside and deal with a little wind.
The build is: Frame: Ummagawd Grinderino FC/ESC: Speedybee F7 AIO 35A ESC (I would go with the speedybee mini stack like my HDZero Grinderino if I was building this again) VTX: DJI O3 Air unit Motors: RCinPower 1506 3000kv (wanted the 3600kv but were put of stock) Props: Gemfan 3630 Receiver: Radiomaster ELRS EP2
I have not personally tried them, but they do have DVR built in, and the price I'm not sure you can really beat it. I would recommend checking out the makerfire version since it is slightly cheaper right now and seems to be a very similar if not identical goggle. With base analog goggles, especially ones included with ready to fly drone kits, there is a lot of white labeling of generic goggles.
You mentioned something you said you were 4K 100 You should actually try 2.7 k100 which is true low latency mode. I think technically 4K actually gives you 60 FPS not true 100 FPS from what I've seen testing. 😊 As far as latency goes
To the best of my knowledge mostly having back to back tested, the resolution does not seem to matter, it is just what is recorded on the Air Unit and then a 1080 live feed is broadcast to the Goggles. I tried all the resolutions at 120fps on Goggles V2 and 100fps on Goggles 2 and I could not see a different flying or when doing the flashlight bench test that Bardwell has used.
Is it good for beginners? I'm looking at prebuilt 3.5 variance from Rotor Riot. or should I looking at something sturdier maybe a 5" since I'm likely going to be crashing a lot at first
I really like the 3.5 inch size for myself and beginners because they are quieter and allow you to fly in places that may not really work with a bigger drone. Even though it would seem less durable because thinner carbon, smaller motors, etc, but they are so much lighter and don't crash as hard. Eventually you may end up with both probably, but 3.5 is my suggestion
I actually was flying stock betaflight rates when I did the test. 😂 I now fly rates very similar to the stock rates on Fettec Alpha. It will be interesting if you see/feel a difference. Which Fettec ESC are you going to use? And Just a heads up, to go completely blind make sure you have ear plugs in because the start-up tones give away which is which.
@@Nathan_Adams not sure which esc. Actually prefer to use an AIO FC but seemingly the ultra (and mini V2) are standalone FC's?. Oh and copy that on the startup tones! Thanks!
@@k4x4map46 that would be interesting to go AIO to AIO. I love my AIOs in sub 250 builds, but i tend to be hard on my 5-inch drones and go through ESCs, so I have avoided them on those builds.
@@Nathan_Adams copy that. my test bed is a Quadmovr frame (CP2 I believe) 3 each cut by Armattan Productions. Size 2004 motors just bare bones test bed!!
Yeah, timing/feel tricks like inverted yaw spins are way less consistent with variable latency. I feel that is why we see less of tricks like that now.
Thank you 🍻 I can't wait to fly there more this summer. Consequences are high for mistakes, but the spot just looks incredible and there are so many cool lines through the complex.
@@microdroneunderground my natural is hybrid pinch for rc, but thumbs only for the pocket. I have been looking for a more video game controller style thumb stick for the pocket and that is the only thing I feel I am "missing" with the radio.
I know this is a hiking shoe but in your opinion would this shoe be good for working at a hardware store like The Home Depot , I really need an opinion I want to know before I buy
Yes, that is what I like about it so much is that it feels relatively multipurpose. It is at home on a trail, or in a gym, our just running errands. The only thing it doesn't do is keep your feet dry, but we can't have it all 😂
@@Nathan_Adams thanks, will have a look. I wish they did the new DJI googles 3 using same design as googles 2, I am not a fan on that new forehead system 🙈
@@ShebanFPV yeah, it is not nearly as compact as the G2, but the G3 is incredibly comfortable and may be the best fitting goggles DJI has released. You win some, you loose some I guess.
Moab 3 Edge Wide Width; just tried to leave a review for these on the Merrell site, in response to an email they sent asking for a review. Funny, I bought another different pair of boots I just reviewed BEFORE I bought my Moabs, but they did not allow me to post my Moab review due to expiration (hmmm)...only purchased in Feb, but they allowed me to post for the other boot. Fact is, the Moabs are DANGEROUS!!! Not only because of the terrible laces do not tighten due to the lace material and come undone constantly (with cranked double knots), but the Vibram (?) sole HAS NO GRIP under damp conditions. I bought my Moabs specifically for a trip to the UK and "Vibram sole", and held on for my life while walking the ramparts around Conway Castle when others in sneakers had no issues. Worst boot I've ever purchased, and now have no confidence in both Merrell and this crappy dumb-down Vibram sole. Sorry Merrell, I was a 40 year fan...no more.
That's rough and unacceptable. When it comes to reviews left on company site, I've had such mixed experience that it doesn't surprise me you struggled to post your review. It's a shame considering that's where most people look for information about their product, but get the least amount of actual customer feedback information. I haven't yet had any experience with the Moab 3, but it sounds like it's a good idea to buy another pair of the 2 before they're all gone.
Great video but i got a question. will the EV800D googles work with a RadioMaster Pocket Remote Controller (ELRS Charcoal Mode 2) and the baby apr pro 2 with the (ELRS reciver)?
Yes, everything will work together. Those goggles will connect to any drone with an analog 5.8ghz video transmitter, from tiny whoops to five inch freestyle drones and beyond. And the radiomaster pocket will pair to any drone with an ELRS receiver. With FPV drones (excluding some DJI products) the controller connects to the drone independently of the goggles, so you can flying FPV drone line of sight without the goggles, and you can see out of the drone without the controller connected by just using the goggles (normally you do this while you have the drone on a bench working in betaflight, like when you're setting up your on screen display (OSD).
Yeah, I live over on Staten Island be I fly in NJ a lot. The dealership where we service our car is near that park. Since they took the playground structure out it is far less fun to fly whoops there.
I bought an e-88 off temu the moment I got a bit confident with it I flew it like upwards at about 10 meters and it was 3 meters in front of me positionally, lost control and it kept rising, wind was kinda strong so with it no longer bound by me kept rising and moving off, ignored all the button functions and didn't seem to care or realise it was out of range...this comment might be used against me in the court of law but ye, don't buy this. Legit will remember it's last command if it gets slightly out of range and will full speed go away from you or up, both bad results, with a 6 min fresh battery in it, it probably went up to 300 meters + if I had to guess, good thing is it starts descending when it's battery is low at least so I probably won't hurt anyone, but I m justy hoping and coping, also at that height descending will take too long battery will die, it weighs like 80g so I doubt it will hurt someone even if unlucky enough to hit someone
Yeah you seem to have had the same issue I had where the RC disconnects. It is super scary and especially for a new pilot who may not know what to do next (or panic), It makes us a really bad choice for first drone.
With its open prop design and size, not to mention it's vague controls, indoor flight seems like a bad idea. I am just picturing the slowest collision into picture frames or a television.
It is really a versatile little beast. I am curious how it flies with 4 inch arms, since my build is just a few grams over 250. I want to try just to avoid RID if possible.
Absolutely. There has never been more good choices when it comes to FPV video. Between Walksnail, DJI, Analog, HDZero, you can find a system for every flight style, drone type, and face fit. That said, I have yet to fly a system that is the best across the board which is why many fly more than one, especially when it comes to whoops.
hi nate, awesome video, im faced with the same issue now where my first quad finally broke, the motors i have are discontinued and dont want to spent $150 to replace the 3. by mis matching the 4th motor (just one), do you notice any flight performances except for it matching the lowest performance motor? Does it still fly straight? or will there be some drifting or yawing effects?
Nothing, even when I had 4 different motor each with a different kv (1750, 1850, 1950, and 2020), three different stator sizes (2306, 2306.5, and 2 2207), and even having 4 different props, it flew shockingly like any other normal quad. Not even a hot motor. You should be completely fine. 🍻
@@Nathan_Adamsthanks for the assurance! I’ll definitely give it a go! Knowing this will make me more confident in flying more aggressively and not worrying about breaking something :)
To activate the Goggles 2 you need to use a PC or Mac. The process is almost exactly the same as updating the firmware for the Goggles or Air units. Download the DJI Assistant (For Consumer Drones), then plug in the goggles to your pc via USB (I think the goggles need to be powered on with the goggle battery), then it automatically props you to activate the goggles when you open the DJI Assistant app.
