Hi I'm Melissa and I run Vegan Disney World. I started it as a website in 2014 to showcase what the vegan options were in Walt Disney World. Follow along to find out about vegan options in the parks, at sea, and at Universal Orlando.
This was such a good review, Melissa! Great information. I feel like a broken record, but, as always, thank you for your content! It is much appreciated. 😊
As a vegetarian, I enjoy your reviews. When you take a bite, I can feel myself hold my breath to hear what you think. Visiting WDW soon and booking Boma. Tusker was second choice. Thanks for the reviews!
Melissa my husband and I LOVE your reviews! You are so informative and to the point. We are vegans who visit WDW often and have picked up countless tips from you. THANK YOU for what you do! PS in case you aren’t aware, Garden Grill serves that delicious chocolate mousse for dessert in a jar. Delish. 😊
I'm excited about this. Not too sure about the taste of pickles though !! Love the atmosphere of Columbia Harbour House but haven't eaten there in years. I think this will go on the maybe list.
So glad they switched to a black bean burger. Would much rather eat real foods than fake meats. That is one big patty. I only have a small mouth so wouldn't be able to eat it as is. Glad it was good. Still sad about the pizza though.
Just tried this tonight, and we 100% agree with everything you said. Taste was great. It was a lot of bread, and we wished it had more mushrooms, but, otherwise, we were pleasantly surprised as well. It is definitely better than the previous crab cake burger. We will definitely order it again.
I had this a few days ago. I liked it I just wish the bread wasn’t so hard. Maybe it was just mine though I don’t know. I also didn’t hate the crab less burger but it definitely wasn’t great.
I’m glad they’re giving more jackfruit options! My young son has a rare genetic condition where he can’t eat much protein, so the Beyond Meat options were a no-go. But jackfruit fits in his diet, and I’m happy that he’ll be able to eat more things than just fries when we come to the parks!
I think the jackfruit at regal eagle is better than the other few spots around DW that have jackfruit. I remember going to the quick service at fort wilderness semi recently and got their vegan breakfast and the jackfruit tasted like it was out of a can and ran halfway through a dishwashing cycle and then served. I couldn’t believe how horrible it was so I kept eating it in horrid disbelief.
jackfruit is just the worst sandwich filling in my opinion, like you mention toward the end the lack of protein is sad!! I feel like I would be hungry so soon after eating this
I genuinely appreciate finding your channel and the work you do to help people with dietary restrictions find places to eat....and actually enjoy LOL❤ I generally make our vacation plans so trying to find places that not only fit what everyone else will like but actually has things I want to eat can be so hard when it is just "here is plate of veggies we barely paid any attention to" or "another Impossible Burger." And personally, I don't like faux meat, that is whole reason I stopped eating meat.
Based on that I think you'd really like this sandwich!! Had mine been on the right bread I think I would have raved about it. I just needed the garlic, ha!
Bummer about the Texas toast! Probably the unpopular opinion, but I don’t mind them taking away the faux meat. Don’t get me wrong-I absolutely enjoy a good faux meat burger from time to time, but I appreciate the different options now. And it seems this sandwich won’t be as heavy on the stomach as it previously was, so I’m excited to try it. Thank you for this review! 😋
The recent changes are very interesting to me since it seems they are suddenly moving away from the beyond/impossible burger option. I’m happy to have more variety. I just hope they don’t come for my Korean-style impossible burger!
I think this is maybe the third video you’ve done recently about fake meat options being replaced. Are they completely getting rid of all beyond/impossible stuff all across the parks and resorts? If so I’m actually kind of happy about that because I felt like they needed more variety that isn’t all just ground “beef”
I think they have just started to listen to the complaints of veg people who want options outside of just burgers. It’s nice to see them branching out.
Disappointing they didn't alert you before plating it was different. True that it is a bummer it is a no protein option. A chop style or pulled mushroom sandwich would be a super cool option!
This looks fantastic. I love that it's gluten free if you leave out the pita, my wife will be thrilled. I can't wait to hear about the kids dishes. My daughter is vegetarian but otherwise adventurous and I'm always down for a kids meal when I'm hungry but not in need of something bigger. It's a good way to save $$ at WDW. Thanks for all the info!
Your channel has been so helpful for our WDW trips. Now that my wife has been diagnosed with Celiac, your collaborations with @glutenfreedisneyworld have become a staple for our planning. We just passed our 60 day mark and I don't know how I would have planned restaurant reservations without the two of you. On the burger note, I'm a lifelong vegetarian and I cannot seem to enjoy the faux meat burgers. I'm so excited about the black bean burger. We'll be staying at Yacht Club and I'm guessing I'll be eating this burger several times, likely while my wife eats the Nicoise Salad and my daughter eats pizza. Thank You!
Yes, please. 😋 Looks yum! I’m sure we’ll see the full review later, but was there anything you didn’t enjoy or was it all pretty good? Also, would love to see a review or just your thoughts on a few new options/changes we’ve seen pop up- Casey’s Corner PB Chicago-style dog, Connection’s Black Bean Burger, and Regal Eagle’s BBQ Jackfruit sandwich. You know… if you’re just looking for something to do. 😉 Thank you, as always, for all of your hard work and honest reviews!
I will have the two new Epcot ones up here soon. I did the Casey’s one with Gina in my gluten free and vegan magic kingdom video. I hated that and won’t be doing that one again 😂 We didn’t do a video for Hoop but I really enjoyed this meal. My favorite part was the cauliflower which you can now get next door at Crockets Tavern!
13:10 I agree - that bolognese really fell flat to me. It was a little dull and a mosh to look at. The only redeemer there - the star of the show - was the arugula. When you have the garnish as the showstopper - that's when it's trouble, because it should be the dish itself. I think the rest of it looked great - I'd just amp up the olive oil with some spices (to make the oil more appealing and easy to digest) - maybe with some basil shreds (idk what's with disney and their aversion to basil!) and maybe some dried tomatoes (reconsituted by the olive oil) and even olive tapenade in there too! (or even artichoke spread as a secondary dip). I think they could've upped their olive oil dipping game, but the roasted garlic definitely was already upping it - so I'm not going to complain there. But still - the olive oil and the bolognese were a miss and the rest of it (olives, bruschetta, dessert) were a win. The olive oil should've been satisfying enough to place on top of the bolognese - so that it would compensate for what was lacking of it - like how upscale restaurants do - at the very least add some cracked black pepper or dried italian herbs or something - cheap yet elegant and expensive looking - seriously! (or at least a packet or grinder of these on the side!). If they did that - all of it would've been a win - and honestly it just doesn't take much to make that happen! They know what to do, because if you can pour that olive oil over everything - it would've been the best meal of the place. Very easy, simple change for a wonder of amazement - no brainer here.
12:05 kind of interesting to watch that you both each get 1 of the same kind. Whenever I go with anyone - we all just order one dish of just about everything and all share - there's no one person's vs another's - we each have our own plates and take from the dishes collectively.
10:25 ok that's gorgeous. I think if they did a pasta primavera filled with veggies rather than faux meat - I'd be all over it, but that dessert - fantastically presented.
if they keep moving in this vegan creative innovative futuristic direction themed - then I will reconsider adding disney parks to my list of places to go for birthdays, get togethers, etc. I left for the excessive animal products, hesitated over the unhealthy/faux products, but am stepping forward with the truly vegan direction!
3:27 I agree - I was going to say - that falafel looks scrumptuous. It looks like it has tomato as well as herbs - so it's really inspiring. I think falafel really has great capacity for creativity - because you can make it from just about anything and have any flavor you want. I'm just looking forward to a planetary swirl - where they incorporate many colors to blend it together (while it's still separate - like a swirl - you know) - into a falafel ball. You can have green (like kale) mixed with orange (like carrot) and earthy dirt brown (like chickpeas) swirled together into a really cool design. I bet they could add purples, pinks, even blue (there are blue beans if not blue corn) to really accentuate the space color pops! I think this is great new territory that they're experimenting with - and honestly - I'm all for it! Planetary spheres ftw. That's the thing about meat - you just can't innovate past it - while you can mix it into foods and prepare it in other ways - the base material for the most part stays the same. Not so with plant-based items - where it can be whatever your heart desires and you dream up - and honestly - that's what disney could use right now - a reboot on creativity - and what better way than food? The only thing missing in that dish is honestly microgreens - that really look otherworldly - but I realize that would up the price. Still - I think that would be a huge boost to move away the pangs of missing out on something - when you can have something way better. If people don't like the taste of beets - maybe beet microgreens are for them! I think there's ways to go about this - so this is definitely a new frontier for them to explore - and I'm 100% all for it! Yay! (let's secretly jump for joy lol)
