I may be wrong, but just a thought on the colors. Some corals change colors depending on intensities and wavelength of UV light. From what I understand is some colors like iridescent pink are like a type of sunblock. 31:00
@ParkersReef I'm trying to locate the article and presentation I read on the effects of UV light, and I'll post it here. Below is one response from the author showing some of his data. The author is Dana Riddle Coral Pigment Name Activator Transition Pigment Clade Dendronephthya sp. Dendra Blue Light @ 488nm Green to Red D Dendronephthya sp. DendFP UV-A at 366nm Green to Red D Favia favus Kikume UV & Violet (350-420nm) Green to Red D Lobophyllia hemprichii Eos UV @ 390nm/Violet Light ~400nm Green to Red D Montastraea annularis UV/Violet Light Green to Red D Montastraea cavernosa mcavRFP UV/Violet Light Green to Red D Trachyphyllia geoffroyi Kaede UV - Violet Light (350-410nm) Green to Red D Here's the info from my data base. Note all are from Clade D fluorescent proteins. I do not have any information on other color transitions in other corals.
I have never had a device that was so hard to set up. My modem uses 5.0 GHz this needs 2.7 or something like this. I was on the phone with my Internet provider for 45 min trying to switch.
I didn’t think the US was any different? I have an entire separate 2.4ghz network dedicated to aquarium and other smart home gadgets that all only work on 2.4ghz. Where most people go wrong is they have the 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks set to band steer with the same SSID. If you separate the network names, you’ll have a much better time
I know this is an old video, but I recently bought a hmalhi sump on sale at BRS which came with two resin reactors. I thought I would give one of the reactors a try with Purigen. I put the flow on very low, but even with that, there was particles that escaped the reactor. My reactors do not have any filtering on them. Just a plastic plate with slits cut out. Next day, it was snowing purigen in my tank. I'm still working on cleaning it out of the tank. It is everywhere. Did I just get a reactor with a missing filter, or do you run your flow so low there is no chance of carryover? Seems even on the tiniest flow, there are burps that can dislodge the media and carry it out. I'm pretty new to reefing, and don't have too many regrets, but this was my biggest mistake to date. Hopefully the fish are not eating the Purigen.
@@ParkersReef Not trying to bad mouth Hmalhi, but I have sent inquiries through their website on 3 separate occasions, and have never heard back. Wasn't sure if they went out of business, don't want to service the US ... or whatever. I might try and look for a sponge that I can fit into the hmalhi reactor, or just buy a separate one. With space in the sump area being at a premium, it would be nice to get the one built into the sump to work better for me.
And thanks for taking the time to reply. I watch a lot of your videos and appreciate the time and information that you supply. As a beginner, it always helps.
When going custom & especially large is it not worth having a fee closed loops on the bottom for extra flow rather than wavemakers all over the glass…? Nice tank , loads of potential, hopefully can sort the flow issue out .
Closed loop is great when it works, but is super complex. Need a lot of plumbing which takes up a lot of space and you run the risk of it breaking the bottom pane of glass with extra holes drilled in it. That being said, if you have the time and space to setup a closed loop flow setup properly - it is a thing of beauty
Yeah I think it's just C. bathyphilus (not cf.) looking at it's colours on the reefbuilders site - 1.4 Fairy Wrasses: The bathyphilus group - and also because it's in Australia and importing a cf. is unlikely (given quarrantine laws). Very nice spot! Also I think cf. is now C. efatensis Both are deeper water species too. Very cool
This tank is just outright beautiful!! Looking for ideas to change up my reef tank which is a mixed reef and was thinking about leathers and keeping a few angels and/or butterflies. This maybe the tank that makes me do it. I just love it. The colors, the big colonies and the very cool fish. This is just as beautiful as a full blown sps/lps tank.
No hate man.. only love!! Another terrific video I never watched this hah. Great detail. I moved into my dream tank this year.. been working on it all year.. I did it on a tight budget but it’s really coming along.
Maybe I’m a little bit late, but you should look into the rotating Powerheads like the sea swirl. We in germany have ocean motions which are basically the same and I’ve heard only good about them
Yes indeed. Kris uses the Neptune Apex system with quite a lot of add-ons and sensors. Primarily using the trident for the big three parameters, but also has a number of other float switches and sensors monitoring other items too
@@ParkersReef i heared about neptune can add on more sensor to monitor the parameters show off by digital screen number. But never the real one. Wow that touch on me, im a fan of GHL for long times, but changed mind now. Thanks Parkerreefs best part of your hobby now bring new experiences to our community. Thanks
I am finally going to go the triton way with ICP tests and filling in the missing elements .. making very granular adjustments.. for my new 300g I need to be on top of this. Thanks again for another very informative video!!
Yes it’s in there now (although in the sump, not the display like you’re suggesting). The tank was just going through its ugly phase so will look much cleaner soon
@@ParkersReef tank looks lovely anyway, just think macro algae massively neglected in the hobby, especially when you're not putting corals in a tank :) algae is always going to be a challenge when you've got fish like puffers so why not embrace it by growing nice looking algae's :) This is making me remember my dad's reef tank in the late 80s very early 90s (I was like 6 😆). Just nems, macro algae, gorgonians and all the crazy stuff that came in the live rock, still looked awesome without all the proper corals :) the tech is too boring for us modern reefers though 😁
What are your thoughts at this point on your change to LED from Radium LEDs? I’m building a very similar size system to your dream reef, and the lighting is my toughest decision at this time. Really thinking of going back to Radium Bulbs and 250w MH.
Great video Sam! Thanks for sharing Rob! The wrasse at 21.50 in the video looks to be a Dusky Wrasse (Halichoeres marginatus). Not so sure of the big wrasse you were discussing before it though.
Nope, I dropped using them as their support and sales were terrible, was near impossible to buy parts and I couldn’t take it any more. I switched to Kamoer x1 pro-t2 pumps and never looked back
The second aquarium is cool, I loved the angel fish. I have a 200 gal tank, only fish with coralline algae on all the rocks. It looks luxurious over time. The only thing that needs to happen is that tank matures and becomes full of coralline, that tsnke with kh. tall and good lighting you will have coralina I hope you see my videos. I also have a very good aquascaping, I tried it, that is good in the aquarium to have good circulation, greetings, I hope to see more videos of that angel fish tank 💯👌
@@ParkersReefThank you, you'll really like the aquascaping, pretty coral looks great with just fish, I'm about to put those pretty cool angels in there.
