What about the Navarre Bible?

I went back and forth on getting the NRSVCE because of the commentary on the gender inclusive language. Then when I saw that the WOF bible uses that translation, I figured if it was good enough for bishop Barron, then I would give it a go. I have not made it through the whole bible yet, but all the qualms are not a deterrent for me to continue reading it. It is ecumenical, very affordable, and available in multiple formats. Also, as a person who is speaks two languages, the nuances do not bother me, since I come from a culture that understands things can be expressed differently. I feel as though people who are hung up on wording may be only English speakers? And in all fairness, that is a point taken as it is an English translation, but I do believe that part of reading requires critical thinking. I am waiting for the long awaited Ignatius study bible (RSV2CE), and will have to compare later.

I like your videos; they are informative as well as entertaining. So, I wonder if you might do a review of the Ignatius Study Bible (old and new testaments). It is due for release in November 2024.

Dear St. Irenaeus Ministries, Why do you have so much bias against NAB? No translation is perfect. Actually, NAB is the ONLY modern translation which correctly translates Ps 110:3. This is important because it is directly related to the DIVINITY and SONSHIP of Christ. NAB - "..like dew I BEGOT you." All other translations (RSV) - "..like dew your youth will come to you." NAB had the guts not to use the corrupted section of Masoretic text but the Septuagint. My favorite translation is RSV but NAB is good in some respects.

Infant baptism is not biblical salvation. It makes no sense at all. Useless. Worthless. Heretical. Injurious ? Probably. Ignorant ? Yes. Risky ? Definitely. Is an infant marriage ceremony valid ? No. We are born of the word of God first. Faith comes by hearing. Said no baby ever.

I thought that “Being Saved” didn’t make sense. Does it mean that you will never sin again? That heaven is assured because one makes a declaration? We are all sinners and never far from falling into sin thus the need for confession, repentance and penance. Salvation is a process towards which we strive and seek. I think it is a false assurance. If you told me that “being saved” is the first step on the road to salvation I would agree but it is not an ending or settled matter but a constant contention with the devil within.

Can I just say that as an evangelical Protestant that its really refreshing to hear a Roman Catholic RU-vidr taking Scripture and its authority so seriously. I've honestly been quite frustrated by a certain tendency in intramural conversations where it seems the average Roman apologist will betray a certain willingness to degrade Holy Scripture if only to spite those of us who see it as the final court of appeal. I've also had a taste of academia and was left feeling like I was on eggshells in some of my classes in a place I thought should be able to focus my attention on deepening understanding and challenging others in good mannered engagement with the Scripture we agreed on compared to defending the validity of God's Word in a place founded by faithful Christians.

12:39 - Is there a hole in Cyprian's argument here in paragraph 3.1? 2 Kings 4:18 shows that this child was old enough to be outside working on the farm. So when he died and Elisha revived him, he wasn't an infant anymore

Not to take anything away from what you said, I have a different perspective on having a personal relationship with Jesus. Through baptism we have a relationship with God the Father as sons and daughters (for those who need the inclusive language) and a relationship as brothers (and sisters) with Jesus. For me, the personal relationship is one as family, not friends. And since the Trinity is the model of family, I have a familiar relationship with the Holy Spirit that I don't have similes/metaphors to describe, but just as real. Prayer then becomes talking to a family member, not just a list of petitions. In Christ's love.

Medical reality checks are bouncing. My advice is, count on a mix of 1860's civil war medicine with a smidge of, walking dead left overs. Medical is more sepcialized than law enforcement..less in numbers too. From the field trauma to the Surgical to the rehabilitative care. No helicopter coming to carry you away to a surgical team. But as long as you have a decompression needle, good to go. Be careful around law enforcement. Some of those guys really believe their taser nullifies snake bite.

Not true, the translators of the King James Bible had access to the duay ryhems which was made by the jesuits. And the readings of that devilish work is found in many of the modern bibles. An example of that is this, ALL modern bibles (which would include the nkjv) take out the command to study in 2Timothy 2:15. Another example is in 1John 4:3 The rheims new testament that I am using (a reprint of the original) taketh out the scripture which the Authorized Book hath in it saying that Jesus Christ is (present tense) is come in the flesh, and every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God. The jesuit ryheims new testament confesseth it not, neither do any of the modern bibles that came after it (all bibles since 1880) There are many more “modern” and “new” readings that the modern bible agree with the jesuit douay ryheims bible (which was all completed a year before the greatest Book ever was complete. Lie not therefore saying that the translators of the King Book of books only had small or insufficient readings and manuscripts.

Thanks for your presentation on Catholic study bibles. I used the Jerusalem Bible since the mid 70's. I also own an NAB study bible, NIV study bible, Oxford Annotated Bible (with Apocrypha), Ignatius Study Bible (New Testament), and recently purchased the Word on Fire Bible - Gospels. I agree with you on the NAB and NIV study bibles. I found the Jerusalem Study Bible notes more faithful and to the point than the Ignatius Study Bible. I was disappointed the the Ignatius Study Bible. It seemed to be trying to address in the notes some argument that I wasn't privy to, sometimes mentioning all these views that aren't traditional before eventually (sometimes) getting to a more traditional viewpoint. The editor seems to like finding "moral" interpretations (along the lines of Origen), that aren't apparent in the text. I found it confusing that the cross-references were both at the bottom of the text and embedded in the notes. The concordance was a pleasant surprise. I prefer to look for the literal, historical, and "typical" interpretations from the early fathers. I guess it depends what you are looking for in a study bible. I bought my wife a Great Adventure Bible because she wanted to understand the timelines found in the Bible. I also bought my daughter a Didache Bible; it works well for her. I bought the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture, 2 volumes on the Gospel of Matthew because I was looking for commentaries written by the Fathers. I was surprised that the commentaries they collected on the Lord's prayer excluded my 2 favorite commentaries by the Fathers: Peter Chrysologus (the most elegant) and Cyril of Jerusalem (concise but complete). I guess ultimately it is good to have multiple references to get a more complete understanding of the scriptures.

Please do publish content on the Holy Fathers' opinions on scripture. Those opinions would be of greater worth than the notes found in my NAB bible, which are, often enough, worse than useless.

Have you read the New Oxford Annotated Bible with apocrypha: revised standard version? If so, what are your thoughts and are there any reasons why you would or would not recommend it? From watching reviews on the New Oxford, I don't think I would pay much attention to the notes in this bible. I am mainly interested in the deuterocanonical/apocrypha books that Catholic bibles do not have and any other informative information it may contain. May God bless and allow you to keep up the good work.

If I didn't know better, I would think this was satire. The way you acknowledge the critical hypotheses, then just dismiss them off of hand... Like around the 48:00 mark, when you are commenting about 'how stupid would that religion be, that God can't even keep the forgeries out of his own holy book'... But how stupid is your own personal religion that your god can't keep these "lies" (according to you) from being spread, even by people who are clergy of that religion? Your lack of self-awareness is actually staggering.
