Yes it's very miss leading. But if they were honest about the Sim fee they would probably still sell. If I ran a small business with field techs or workers I'd probably use them. But to lie about it being free, people will get ticked off.

Dummy they tell you that. After 1 year you have to pay for sim

How much weight does the bed cover hold?
@Engineer-Athlete
@Engineer-Athlete Месяц назад
There is no information on this in the manual, but I think that’s because it’s not meant to hold any weight. You could do five or 10 pounds on it, or a backpack closer to the edge, but anything in the middle will start to stress the aluminum.

I personally would just have a Leer Camper shell installed. The problem is resolved and I can cramp more camping items inside too.
@Engineer-Athlete
@Engineer-Athlete Месяц назад
Are shells the same thing as a truck cap? That’s all I see when I search for that on website. I looked at those, but I needed something I could open up because I put pallets of landscape materials in the bed and that would restrict the height. I also get materials dumped in the bed by a front-end loader so I needed something a tractor could come from the side and drop material in.

Common sense tells anyone that nothing in this world is free. Do some research that takes about 2 minutes and you’ll find out they have an annual fee. Sheesh.
@hagnar08
@hagnar08 2 месяца назад
That isn't really the point is it.. The problem is that the company is hiding the annual fee in their FAQ and don't mention it anywhere else on their site. The selling point the company is pushing is that these have no monthly fees, and yes while technically correct, is misleading at best.

I have the same exact truck color and trim, I got the north mountain cover not a low profile but it doesn’t interfere with the trunk opening. Where did you get the bed rug ?
@Engineer-Athlete
@Engineer-Athlete 2 месяца назад
I saw them on amazon or realTruck. Got off Amazon since I have prime, but they sent me wrong thing, twice. Wouldn’t go for the amazon warehouse discount item because it’s usually the wrong thing. I bought one returned item from warehouse, and it was for jeep. Bought full priced item and it was for Tacoma, finally after 2 returns and 3 purchases, they sent right one. Bed rug and tailgate rug are two separate items. Cost you $220 for both I think.

I think the marketing is shady AF.. But they do fit exactly my use case and budget. What I am most worried about is what will the annual fee be in 2 or 5 years? Or will they even stay in business after they sell a bunch with the no monthly fee lie.
@Engineer-Athlete
@Engineer-Athlete 2 месяца назад
So what is your use-case? And could another radio type not fit that situation? Just curious since I’m looking into GMRS that was mentioned in another comment.
@ScottDy9000

@@Engineer-Athlete Good question. I have a cabin in a remote location that is covered with ATT cell service. The terrain is 1000 ft hills that block GMRS radio if you are in the valleys. I have a friend building a cabin 3 miles (as the crow flies) and 5watt radios can’t make it with the hills. My family doesn’t have our cell plans with ATT (work provided). Soooo the rapid radios would work great but I am concerned they won’t be around long.

Good for you on sending them back as there are many false or misleading statements in there marketing on these radios. Like this statement on there website: "With the on-going crisis in the Middle East & Europe, the threat of Cyberattacks on the USA, and the uncertainty of WW3 you simply CAN NOT RELY on Cell Phones and Internet for Communications in the Future These radios provide NATIONWIDE coverage, where ever you are located. With no monthly fees, no contracts, and no hassle" And the problem with this miss leading statement is implying these radios will work if cell towers and the internet are down which is a flat out lie as these cell phones work off the cell net work and if there is zero cell service then these radios are just expensive paper weights. On top of the fact they can only communicate with the same kind of radio and that person with that radio has to be put in your group. if you are not put in your group which also has to be done by the company if you want to add anybody which is another big issue but not in group then you can't talk to them. And another thing if say your buddy lives up in canada then he needs a different sim card and then he can get added to your group if he comes down to visit you in the states even if he is in your group his radio will not work due to having a totally differentt sim card that does not work in the states. I personally have tried to contact this company and have left many comments on there stuff which have all been deleted just for askin gthem questions about these radios. Very shady company in my opinion. If I can make a suggestion look into GMRS radios or MURS radios GMRS is the way to go in my opinion but if you do not want to have to pay a $35 fee for the license the look at MURS radios no license and work better the FRS radios like you would get at walmart.

Technically, there is no monthly fees. Technically. Full disclosure, I have three of these and totally love them. I love the radios, I love the service. If this were my company, that is not how I would advertise these. I don’t think it would be a terrible thing to say that you get the radios and one year of service for that initial cost and then it’s $50 per Radio per year after that. Even saying that, you are significantly cheaper than other LTE radios that do charge a monthly fee in the vicinity of $25-$30. The advertising techniques kind of make me bite my lip a bit but I would not even consider sending these back. In fact, if one of them get broken or lost, I would definitely order another one quickly. They are super useful and work very well. Somehow, I did know before I bought them with the full cost of ownership would be. I think I had to find it in the frequently asked questions or something like that. I don’t remember exactly But before I bought them, I did understand the cost of the radios and the subsequent $50 per year for the purchase of Sim cards.
@Engineer-Athlete

"Saying you get the radios and one year of service for that initial cost and then it’s $50 per Radio per year after that"...agreed! That would be absolutely acceptable. That lets you know what to expect in the future. Just rubbed me the wrong way when people were asking that question on Rapid Radios FB page and the company was deleting the posts. To me, that just shows they are being dishonest about the whole thing. Thanks for your thoughts on owning them too. Good to know. They seemed like a good product, it's just the no monthly fees marketing is misleading without ANY other reference to a future cost. I mean add an asterisk and put it in small print...wouldn't be that hard.

@donaldengel4128 Месяц назад
@@0035diamond That depends... if AT&T's network goes down by itself, or Verzions network goes down by itself, then yes they would work because they don't use either of those networks. But if ALL the LTE cell towers go down, then no it won't work because it needs the towers online to work.
