Rapid Radios Misleading Marketing...There is a fee!

My thoughts on the inaccurate marketing that Rapid Radios is selling people on, and why mine will be going back.
Bottom-line: There is a fee. Be it monthly, or yearly, but there is a fee. $50/radio/year for the SIM card.
They very proudly proclaim no monthly fees, without any other reference to a future cost. People that have that asked this question are blocked and their posts deleted from Rapid Radio's sites. Feels dishonest to me and they could easily add an asterisk to let you know that there is a yearly cost, per radio, on the SIM cards.
I first picked up on the issue from @HamRadio2 , in this video: • Rapid Radios EXPOSED: ... .
Take a look at his video for a more in-depth review.

I think the marketing is shady AF.. But they do fit exactly my use case and budget. What I am most worried about is what will the annual fee be in 2 or 5 years? Or will they even stay in business after they sell a bunch with the no monthly fee lie.

So what is your use-case? And could another radio type not fit that situation? Just curious since I’m looking into GMRS that was mentioned in another comment.

@@Engineer-Athlete Good question. I have a cabin in a remote location that is covered with ATT cell service. The terrain is 1000 ft hills that block GMRS radio if you are in the valleys. I have a friend building a cabin 3 miles (as the crow flies) and 5watt radios can’t make it with the hills. My family doesn’t have our cell plans with ATT (work provided). Soooo the rapid radios would work great but I am concerned they won’t be around long.

Technically, there is no monthly fees. Technically. Full disclosure, I have three of these and totally love them. I love the radios, I love the service. If this were my company, that is not how I would advertise these. I don’t think it would be a terrible thing to say that you get the radios and one year of service for that initial cost and then it’s $50 per Radio per year after that. Even saying that, you are significantly cheaper than other LTE radios that do charge a monthly fee in the vicinity of $25-$30. The advertising techniques kind of make me bite my lip a bit but I would not even consider sending these back. In fact, if one of them get broken or lost, I would definitely order another one quickly. They are super useful and work very well. Somehow, I did know before I bought them with the full cost of ownership would be. I think I had to find it in the frequently asked questions or something like that. I don’t remember exactly But before I bought them, I did understand the cost of the radios and the subsequent $50 per year for the purchase of Sim cards.

"Saying you get the radios and one year of service for that initial cost and then it’s $50 per Radio per year after that"...agreed! That would be absolutely acceptable. That lets you know what to expect in the future. Just rubbed me the wrong way when people were asking that question on Rapid Radios FB page and the company was deleting the posts. To me, that just shows they are being dishonest about the whole thing. Thanks for your thoughts on owning them too. Good to know. They seemed like a good product, it's just the no monthly fees marketing is misleading without ANY other reference to a future cost. I mean add an asterisk and put it in small print...wouldn't be that hard.

Will they work if cell service goes down? THAT’S what I want to know
@Engineer-Athlete

No, they won’t work if cell service goes down

@@0035diamond That depends... if AT&T's network goes down by itself, or Verzions network goes down by itself, then yes they would work because they don't use either of those networks. But if ALL the LTE cell towers go down, then no it won't work because it needs the towers online to work.

Common sense tells anyone that nothing in this world is free. Do some research that takes about 2 minutes and you’ll find out they have an annual fee. Sheesh.
@hagnar08

That isn't really the point is it.. The problem is that the company is hiding the annual fee in their FAQ and don't mention it anywhere else on their site. The selling point the company is pushing is that these have no monthly fees, and yes while technically correct, is misleading at best.

@@markbroad119 once again, research. That took me about 2 minutes to find out looking at their FAQs and using the internet.
