It doesn't help that what they present as the "Reformed view" isn't anything close to the Reformed view. No confessionally-Reformed Christian (nor confessional Lutheran) believes that once you get your "ticket punched," you're good to go. We all believe in salvation by grace through faith alone, but we also believe that faith that saves is never alone. Whether he's ignorant or dishonest I don't know, but what he isn't doing is accurately presenting the view he's critiquing. Just like the "Once Saved Always Saved" film, come to think of it.
This was a good, pastoral appeal to Jason. Well done, gentlemen. I'm praying that Jason believes in the finished work of Jesus Christ, that God monergistically justifies, and sanctifies, and glorifies every Christian. As to the statement of faith Jason provided, it starts by saying salvation is a free gift. However, if we have to maintain it by our own obedience, then it is not free and not a gift; our obedience is the payment for salvation. That's what makes this Anabaptist statement of faith heretical.
That breakdown of seeing the sovereignty of God in our own lives as well as the narrative of scripture is what they just can't apply w/in their theology. And yet they claim they believe in the sovereignty of God.
The way I describe the impact of the fall. we were created in God's image, but sin marred the template. You ever used a mangled cookie cutter? its never the same is it? Now does that mean we are completely inept? No I think we have a conscience telling us what's right and wrong, but what that 'original' sin does is make us so much more susceptible to fall into sin than pre fall. And we do sin. Honestly, I do not believe God hold's Adam's sin against us personally, but because of Adam all of us are dragged down because of how it corrupted our human existence. That's why we needed a saviour, until Jesus Came there was no real hope for mankind to overcome what happened.
"According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will". (Ephesians 1:4-5)
Good content. Leighton is fond of saying that "responsible" means "able- to -respond". So, I asked him if God responds to sin and if He does then by his own definition God is responsible for sin. He has since blocked me on Twitter.
I go to a small Reformed Baptist Church here in Northwest GA and our Pastor is bi-vocational as well all im a say is adopt charismatic word of faith theology and you're financially set hahaha jk jk An honest Pastor doesnt have the love for money and is above reproach but I whole heartedly understand yalls desire to do it full time for your love of the Lord God Bless Yall All Praise and Glory to Our Lord
When you quote a bible passage Flowers is just going to say that’s not what that means and we’re just importing our Calvinistic opinions into the text. Such as Ephesians 1:4. The lynchpin is, why is Flowers hermeneutic wrong and why is the Reformed hermeneutic correct. Then why are his underlying presuppositions also wrong.
1 Tim 2.4 KJV "Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." The text does not say God attempts to save someone and fails, it clearly says God WILL have all to be saved. Now, unless you are a Universalist, all cannot mean every single human being since God's purpose will come to pass (see Job 23.13, Isa 46.10, Dan 4.35). The text also says that the 'all' who are saved will "come unto a knowledge of the truth." We know for a very obvious fact this is NOT true, if speaking of the whole human race, since the vast majority of mankind will perish in their sin, not knowing the Lord Jesus Christ. The very context of the chapter also restricts the 'all', not to all without exception, but all without distinction. This is very evident from verse 1 (prayers for ALL men), verse 2 (kings and ALL in authority), and verse 7 (the Gentiles). Verse 6 also states that Christ gave Himself "a ransom for all." Christ, by giving Himself, redeemed this 'all' back to God ; He actually secured this 'all' by the sacrifice of Himself on the tree. This 'all' are "justified by His blood" (see Rom 5.8) and through His work, their salvation is secure. This work is then revealed to this 'all' in these gospel days, i.e. both to Jew and Gentile, and received through faith. This is why John said Christ was the Lamb (the Sacrificial Lamb) who takes away - really takes away, not potentially - the sin of the world ; again, both of elect Jew/Gentile.
THANK YOU! Someone finally said it plainly. The problem with all of these groups is that "man's free will" or "libertarian free will" (which doesn't exist) has become an idol. Not only that, but it is NEVER something derived from the text, but is merely assumed. It is the golden calf that they will vehemently defend at all cost and God forbid you ever try to point this out to them...
Wow, you guys rail on Breda for not engaging with your position honestly or putting words in your mouth that you wouldn't say and then you totally strawman Flowers position. Actually hilarious 🤣
There's a difference between strawmanning and having a person say "You are strawmanning me" when the conclusions of their arguments CLEARLY entail certain uncomfortable/false teachings. Provide evidence that they in fact strawmanned his position.
The fight between Provs and Calvs is over HOW one gets damned to eternal torture (or annihilation). All the other theological arguments are just noise.
I’m becoming more and more convinced that some Arminians don’t actually believe Gods Word because it’s clear that salvation is Gods doing, not ours, but I can understand why they get it wrong because I had it wrong for 15 years. To understand Gods Word we have to study it, not just reading it, but accurately handling it. By that I mean pulling all the scriptures having to do with salvation and reconciling the seemingly contradictions. “Choose you this day” sounds like we can choose until we bring Romans 3:10-12 into the equation
@mountainman78629 If you read the verse in context, you will find that Joshua is basically saying, " IF YOU THINK ITS EVIL TO SERVE THE LORD,then pick a false god to worship. A false god is the only kind of god that a natural man can choose for himself. In Roman's 9 we are shown natural men who think God is EVIL for choosing His own people and they hate Him,But they will choose a false god and Jesus that they like better, one they have control over.
In A W. Pinks book called "The Doctrine of Election" he explains to us how Systematic Theology is done and he writes this excellent paragraph on why these Doctrines are difficult. He says on page 4 ➡️ "It is a difficult doctrine, and this in three respects. First, in the understanding of it. Unless we are privileged to sit under the ministry of some Spirit-taught servant of God, who presents the truth to us systematically, great pains and diligence are called for in the searching of the Scriptures, so that we may collect and tabulate their scattered statements on this subject. For it has not pleased the Holy Spirit to give us one complete and orderly setting forth of the doctrine of election, but instead "here a little, there a little," -- in typical history, in Psalms and Prophecy, in the great prayer of Christ (John 17), in the Epistles of the apostles. Second, in the acceptance of it. This presents a much greater difficulty, for when the mind perceives what the scriptures reveal thereon, the heart is loath to receive such a humbling and flesh withering truth. How earnestly we need to pray for God to subdue our enmity against Him and our prejudice against His truth. Third, in the proclamation of it. No novice is competent to present this subject in its Scriptural perspective and proportions." ⬅️ A W. Pink is an incredible Reformed Theologian. His books especially this one are helping bring understanding. Someone told me not to buy his books from Banner because they are more left leaning and in his Book "The Sovereignty of God" they leave out his chapter on God's Sovereignty in Reprobation. Fortunately my publisher kept it in. But l noticed the Banner books had 100 pages less than some of the better publishers. Sadly, they would tamper with another man's work. There's an excellent channel on Facebook called "Michael Jeshurun." He quotes a lot of Pinks work. God Bless you Brother. 🌷
@@CBALLEN I’m convinced my conversion took place without my permission and I thank God for it. A friend gave me the living bible and I tried reading about a dozen chapters, in English and I remember thinking, I read English. This is written in English and I have no idea what I just read. Sometime after when I was 19, still living at home but about to get married I came home stoned about 3 am and my mom was up and instead of her griping about my condition she told me about Jesus dying for my sins. I said yeh, I believe that and we prayed and for about 42 years I thought that was the moment I was saved. I tried reading the Bible again and it actually made sense. That’s why I guess that’s why I thought for all those years that’s when I became a Christian. About 4 years ago I realized when I said I believe that, I had to have already been saved because ask any lost person and they will tell you they don’t believe that. God doesn’t NEED us for anything. He’s never needed us. He seems to do things in spite of us and our best efforts than because of us. The problem is somewhere along the way I have to realize there’s a change in me and it’s not going to come by way of angels singing or “congratulations, you’ve been born again” written across our foreheads. All these issues God could have settled, like the trinity and the deity of Christ and regeneration precedes faith but if He’d have just said so but He does it differently.
@@mountainman78629 Proverbs 25:2 (ESV): 2 It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.Remember,we are called a priesthood of kings.
This was excellent.... People need to hear more on what the New Birth, Regeneration truly is. Everything is about me, me, me these days. I know l believed since l was 4 yrs old. I couldn't of believed more than l did...in my human ability. Then 5 yrs ago l experienced a sudden supernatural conversion. The scriptures were opened and my whole life changed. The Shepherd called my name, the gate was opened. Here's my question for the Leightonites. If its opened to everyone... explain Luke 13:24 "Strive to enter in at the straight gate; for many, l say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able." Next verse said they knock and He wouldn't answer...whats that about if Gods recruiting? I thought everyone could get in? 🤔
Unregenerated Self Determinists, ie "Provisionists," ie Leighton Flowers... ..worships the same idol in his uncircumcised heart as do all born only once...their "imaginary autonomous free will." Leighton is the decreed "Antithesis of the demonstrated power of Gods effectual grace for His elect." A "child of the flesh." Keep fighting the good fight of the faith received by the Saints, beloved, elect of God.
Hammer down on that nail,My BROTHER!! The Provisionist god is simply an idol,no other way to say it and God doesn't share His Glory with another, even another with the same name.
Great debate! Best I’ve seen yet. Jeffrey, I’d like to get into deeper studies and connect scripture together more. Can I ask what commentary’s/study books you use to further your Bible study? Was greatly encouraged from this debate to rightly handle the Word of Truth.
You did a good job, Jeff. I'm not sure how much contact Jason has had with Reformed Baptists. I think you, Braden, and Tom were spot-on that Jason was thrown off a bit at your covenantal answers. In Jason's interview with Keith Foskey at the Why Calvinism Conference, Jason said he's an Anabaptist. He's also said recently that he does not hold to eternal security. Jason having started in a Pentecostal church, then Calvinistic Baptist, and now Anabaptist, it seems unsurprising that he's returned to a rejection of eternal security. It is also sad. We should be praying that Jason understands the assurance of being in Christ, that he can rest in Christ.
58:38 So perfectly potently potently stated with authority only in Gods hand, you nailed it with this minute long beautiful praise of God‘s sovereignty Glory to God
“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; *and in the ark* thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee. {Exodus 25:21} And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished, That *Moses commanded the Levites* which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying, Take this book of the law, *and put it in THE SIDE of the ark of the covenant* of the LORD your God, *that it may be there for a witness against thee* (Col 2:14) {Deuteronomy 31:24-26} And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, *and the tables of the covenant* {Hebrews 9:3-4} -- Peradventure how the sabbath which God blessed and sanctified for man can be that which was against them? <> And it shall be the prince's part to give burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and drink offerings, in the feasts, and in the new moons, and in the sabbaths, in all solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make reconciliation [Atonement] for the house of Israel. {Ezekiel 45:17} And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out *the handwriting of ordinances that was against us* which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [Atonement / Reconciliation] is of Christ. {Colossians 2:13-17} -- Which law was a shadow? For *the law* having *a shadow of good things to come* and not the very image of the things, can never with *those sacrifices* which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. {Hebrews 10:1}
Now of the things which we have spoken this is *the sum* We have such an high priest, (of the order of Melchizedek; chapter 7) who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty *in the heavens* A minister of *the sanctuary* and of the true tabernacle, *which the Lord pitched and not man* For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. (His life; "no greater love"...) For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests [Levitical] that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and *shadow* of *heavenly things* as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make *the tabernacle* for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to *the pattern* shewed to thee in the mount. *But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry* by how much also *he* is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. *For if that first covenant had been faultless then should no place have been sought for the second* For *finding fault with them* he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make *a new covenant* with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; *I will put my laws into their mind and write them in their hearts* and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: {Hebrews 8:1-10} (Jer 31:31-33)
-- In 563 AD Columba (of Ireland) and twelve of his brethren set out to do missionary evangelism, settling in Iona, an island in the inner Hebrides, in Scotland. They founded the Abbey on Iona. They were Seventh-day Sabbath-keepers living in Scotland during the sixth century. This would continue until the eleventh century AD. -- “Professor Andrew Lang says of them [churches set up or inspired by St. Patrick]: ‘They worked on Sunday, but kept Saturday in a Sabbatical manner.’ -‘A History of Scotland from the Roman Occupation,’ Vol. I, p. 96. Moffat, D.D., Professor of Church History at Princeton, says: “It seems to have been customary in the Celtic churches of early times, in Ireland as well as Scotland, to keep Saturday, the --Jewish-- Sabbath as a day of rest from labor. *They obeyed the fourth commandment literally upon the seventh day of the week* -‘The Church in Scotland,’ p. 140. Philadelphia: 1882. “But the Church of Rome could never allow the light of pure apostolic Christianity [in contrast to the “darkness of impure and corrupted apostolic Christianity,” the mother of which is the Romanized Papal Church headquartered in Rome!] to shine anywhere, for that would reveal her won religion to be apostasy. Pope Gregory I, in 596, sent the imperious monk Augustine, with forty other monks, to Britain. Dr. A Ebrard, says of this ‘mission’: ‘Gregory well knew that there existed in the British Isles, yea, in a part of the Roman dominion, a Christian church, and that his Roman messengers would come in contact with them. By sending these messengers, he was not only intent upon the conversion of the heathen, but from the very beginning he was also bent upon bringing this Irish-Scotch church, which had been hitherto been free from Rome, in subjection to the papal chair.’ -‘Bonifacius,’ p. 16. Buyer beware Jeremiah Nortier, who blocked me from his channel when I pressed him on why he preaches against "works based salvation" while at the same time advocating the works of "looking, trusting, not looking, firmly trusting, putting, being, following, coming" and much, much more. He would avoid, emoji, and mock his way out of defending his own, time-stamped and quoted assertions. At one point, he offered to debate me, but eventually blocked me. He found me in another comment section and offered to "let me back in if I play nicely," as if pointing out his contradictions isn't "playing nicely." I pointed out that blocking one when avoiding discussion is an act of cowardice and that I hadn't asked to be "let back in." Beware this false teacher who is not an apologist by any stretch of the imagination.
Just watched this. Thank you for your time and talents. I agree, and am waiting for our Lord to return. Matthew 24:34… “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” “This generation shall not pass till…” It’s not a generation of years, but a generation of a people, the Jews. They were dealt with at 70. He came the first time for his people, the Jews. But they rejected him, had him crucified. The gospel was then sent out to the Gentiles, see Paul’s writings. Revelation deals with the churches and so-called Christians. So, we’re not there yet. I’m waiting for no more tears, no more death, no sorrow, no crying, no more pain. No night, no candle, no sunlight needed. Former things will be passed away. Our Lord God will give us light, and we will reign forever. Revelation 21 & 22
