try removing that cassette when you have a rusty 2 year old back wheel and you dont have a stable vice . gonna have to take it to a a local bike mechanic
This was less crucial in my case than the rear derailleur but there was a little noise and misalignment and this video was equally helpful. I can now ride my bike without the risk of being eaten by barn owls. Thanks!
I'm 6'10 I ride an old school early 80's 68cm Japanese road bike chrome moly frame with Suntour superbe friction derailleurs and Suntour Barcons on the ends of my drop handlebars. It's fun and works for my length. I don't have to spend $3000+ having a bike specially made.
Hi, I'm Joëlle, bicycle mechanic and trainer at the CyCLO DIY workshop in Brussels. A few days ago, I passed a qualification exam of wheelbuilding. The wheel fulfilled almost all of the jury's requirements. I obtained 95%, because a wheel can never be perfect ;-) Dear Calvin and Truman, THANK YOU very much for the great videos! Always very instructive and nice to watch. Let's keep learning👩🔧
You're the best Calvin ! I met you YEARS ago as a student when you were teaching at the John Barnett Bicycle Institute . . . Cheers from Montreal ! :-)
Only halfway through my indexing was right and noise on all gears removed. This was an excellent video for novice bike maintenance guys like me! Thanks!
It would have been good if you had said exactly which way you were turning to loosen, rather than just saying, "Use a 3/8 drive ratchet or breaker bar to drive the tool", There's only one tool that I can see & hear! I'll try a better and more informative RU-vid video.
3:23 this screw moves extremly hard when I took the deraileur off, what could cause that ? I tried all kind of sprays and oil on it, in the end I thought it was supposed to turn that hard.
Update: I will be trying to reinstall a front derailleur later this week. Took it to a shop to get quote and was quoted $45 to install and $95 an hour for labor. I said nope. Guess need to master this video. If I’m to replace both front and rear shifters/cables and both front and rear derailleurs. What should be done first so I can finally get the derailleur into adjusting? Since I fallen quite a dozen times and 2-3x were at speeds of 20-28 mph. Pretty sure all of it has to be fixed as my gear covers were damaged.
Just found your RU-vid. I bought a book from you 14 years ago. Your book help me through so many bike repairs because I rode my bike everywhere for at least 10 plus years. 14 miles a day and more. Thanks bro it’s like seeing an old friend!
