2 right screws on the back are a pain to get to. My repair tool kit for small devices didn't have any screwdrivers able to fit in the holes as they were too thick and not long enough. Had to order a new one that can do the job. Thanks for the help with this video.
Thanks so much I'm about to order a laser for my OG Xbox and I figured this is what you had to do with the replacement for ebay. Now time to get a solder and some soldering thread. I just tried cleaning the laser and the area with rubbing alcohol and I tried twisting that little screw to make it work better but didn't work.
While I doubt that you're still active... I was wondering if my soldering iron (40w, weller) needs an adjustable temperature, cause mine doesn't have one. Also figuring I need the tiniest tip for it as well, right? Btw thank you, there's no other guide for this and it was very helpful.

Isn't it better if the solder blob it's removed when the pickup is installed in position inside the drive? This is the answer: The purpose is to not discharge static electricity on your body on laser . It's a delicate device, but I never seen or damaged any laser in 20 years . You just need to pass the soldering iron on the solder blob and open the line that it keeps closed . For the ps2 , I don't know but most of the times a model number similar it's suitable . For example I have an xbox 360 with 141x laser (Philips light on) and I'm going to replace it tomorrow with a 141D or something like that . I found it on amazon ,and it looks virgin from factory . Same box (actualy 2 small boxes one inside the other) , blue bag , and the solder blob . Also the pickup whole looks clean without scuffs , impurity , dust , fingerprints or grease .those are the things you have to check to be sure it's a new one . To know if it's compatible check the shape and components position on your and o pictures of the replacement . Must be pretty identical , more than over on the ziff connector ( the one where the flat connect) , check for numbers of pins and try to measure the dimensions (I

Hello, i got a new laser for the xbox dvd drive sdg-605, i did remove the solder blobs, but i dont know if the desoldering thingy took it al away, the lens turns on with red light but doesnt read the disc. Would the lens turn on when you didnt remove the soldering?
This is exactly what I needed lmao, my screen had a tear in the edge of the ribbon where it meets the metal ring and I scored the back accidentally trying to cut the ring off to swap it to over to a new shell, new screen arrived and I soldered the speakers and it wouldn't power on so I thought they might have sent me a dud since theres a few scratches in the middle of the ribbon

Great video! But can you please explain to me why this is needed to be removed? What is it’s purpose? Why is it there in the first place? And what would happen if someone tried to install the laser without removing it? Also one other question, I have a Sony laser lense that I’m looking to replace, the model number is KHH-313AAA but I can’t find it anywhere as if it never existed. The closest model number that I can find is a Sony KHM-313AAA or Sony KHS-313AAA do you know if either one of those will work to replace it with? The whole reason for me trying to replace it is because the DVD player has trouble reading some DVDs but works good on other DVDs and I already verified that the DVDs are not the problem as they play perfect in different DVD players, so it’s not working properly so I’m looking to replace the lense in hope that it will help. Please let me know your thoughts and thanks again!

I’ve had my DSLite my entire life. It was my sisters but she gave it to me. I really loved it. It’s hinge was broken for a long time, making the screen fall and all that. Now it seems to have disconnected from the bottom screen. I think it’s time for it to kick the dust though. I’ll never forget those 11th graders that stole my Mario kart.
