@@paulthompson8467 Hi Paul. Yes, a well matched outfit! 👌🏻 All is well here thanks. A bit warmer weather would be nice but we take what we get. 👍🏻 Thanks for watching
Hi Chris. Yeh I agree. The problem is drones don't record sound cause they make a whizzing sound so a sound track has to be put over it. Some of my other videos recorded on camera don't have as much sound. Thanks for commenting though 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Paul 👍🏻 Aye hopefully they will push on now they are out at grass too. Been a long winter but what a difference a week of good weather makes ☀️ Things are looking up 👍🏻
😂 Been there before.. I now let them out to run up and down the concrete yard for 10 mins before putting them out into the field I find helps. By the time they get to the field I'm hoping they are right and tired. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
That's a great price for the cattle mind you they're great stock have you decided whether to keep at the sucklers with the good calf prices it would be a hard decision to make 🤔
Thanks Paul! Aye very happy with those prices 👍🏻 Although when you add up all the costs of keeping a cow, meal, vet etc. It's not as good as it sounds 🤔 Decision not fully made yet. She wasn't served, tempted to serve them a month or 2 later this year so they will calve in the warmer weather 🤔
I keep pedigree simmentals. A lot of work with sucklers. But don't give them up. It's great to see your own calves grow and then getting good money for them.
The cows are looking well I used to keep 20 cows and 80 ewes but now I've just the sheep and I try and buy in 40 store cattle as I found calving a bit of a nightmare as I work full-time the lambing isn't as bad as I usually take time off for most of it but miss seeing the calves growing up plus the price of weanlings is shocking at the minute
Thanks Paul! Interesting to hear that, I thought sheep would be a lot harder work than cows but I suppose you've got it worked out with your work time off and it works well for you. I dont like sounding negative on the suck cow topic but say you lose a calve or 2 or lose a cow with grass tetany. The time you pay the vet bill and all too there's not much left. Seeing the calves grow up is the good part aye 👍🏻 I'm thinking of going back to buying in drop calves as I found that less time consuming and don't have to get up in the middle of night to run about with a calving jack. Hope lambing season goes well for you 👍🏻👍🏻
@@JohnSAgri one of the deciding factors for keeping the few sheep instead of the cows was benchmarking because I am renting land the cows before SFP were losing money while even with renting land the sheep were still making a few pounds I sometimes rear a few calves too they are handier than the sheep or cows
@@paulthompson8467 You're wise to have it all worked out. If you're going to be busy you might aswell make a pound or 2 at it. It's like everything, good days and bad days 👍🏻 I'll see what happens over the next few months. Watch this space haha 👍🏻
Thanks Paul... £18 per straw is a lot cheaper than keeping a bull only thing is keeping an eye for the heats is a bit difficult when not about home all the time... Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Aye that's it, I'd far rather a wee calve born with no hassle than a big lump of a calve wrecking a cow... They can do all their growing outside. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
Hi. Probably not a while pile of difference between them. I've never really compared them to be honest. Just fill them up and tear away. Maybe something I could do in a video some day. Thanks 👍🏻
Hi Paul. Thanks for watching. Yeh, good sized pens and handling facilities makes it easier for everyone 👍🏻 No I only farm part time so work away from home Monday to Friday 🤔 It leaves my weekends busy sometimes.
@JohnSAgri Knell Is a good bull had 4 limousin heifers incalf to him lastyear all calved on their own great growthy heifer calves should make nice cows I will use him again
@@brendanmcloughlin193 Yes Brendan, used him a few times before myself and good shapey calves from him. That red limousin heifer that calved that angus calve is a daughter of Knell from 2 years ago. Calved herself, great mother 👌🏻
Thanks! Nothing more frustrating than a calve that won't suck especially when it needs colostrum... The wee calves are up far quicker than the big strong ones! Just have to have patience 🤣 Thanks for watching :)
Hi.. Aye don't think blues maybe last as long as other hardier breeds too... Them cows are out of fresian dairy cows that's why they have so much milk. Once the calve gets up a bit though they fairly thrive on all the milk 👌🏻👌🏻 Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed :) Happy New year
Hi David... I was talking to someone that has 'Saler' cattle and he swears by them. Calve charolais calves themselves. Anything that makes your life easier is worth it. If you lose a calve or have to pay the vet for a c-section you've lost a fair bit of your profit for the year. I'd be tempted to buy a saler/stabiliser cow or 2 :) Thanks for watching and happy new year.😊
