Love your channel. Would be great to hear a whole detailed episode of what those first 2 years looked like in terms of work/life/family/home/finances x
Loving your channel! You have a lot of super insightful and authoritative advice. I'd love to see more longer form content, the longer videos of you reacting to these viral business videos and being interviewed by someone are some of my favourites! I think offering some realistic and genuinely useful advice coming from a tried and tested businesswoman is much needed in a social media space where many people are incentivised to make sensationalist content in order to get views.
For me, success is helping other people. I find joy when I share life with others. What I mean by this is, I love the fulfilment it gives me when I buy a plane ticket or accomodation for my friends, when I invite people to nice events, or meals, and we have good meaningful chats.
Uhh, or just train them? It's not hard. You should always be working with your employees to ensure that they are working to their strengths already, but ALL jobs require some amount of training. It is part of business, and is part of the cost. Businesses seem to think training is just a burden cost, and they essentially try to offload that responsibility on to the employee. They expect the employee to train themselves. This is not an effective way to cultivate an efficient and effective workforce. What ends up happening is that all training costs that are "saved" ends up being overshadowed by spending on managers and HR to perform non-core business activities. Things like managing these issues, putting time into working out how to fire an employee, and spending significant time on lengthy hiring processes to find a mythical "perfect" employee that can take on a role in a new company with no training whatsoever. None of these activities generate business's money, whereas effective training directly contributes to business success. The real problem is that most businesses are greedy to the point that not acknowledging their employees as actual humans has become standard practice. Moral objections aside, this can be very profitable in some cases. However, in 90% of cases assuming employees to be perfect machines that only exist to generate you profit costs business significantly more in the long run.
In some countries, it's actually the employers' responsibility to make sure the employee has the right qualifications, so paying for them to get the qualifications is mandatory. Most employers ignore this rule and just fire that person instead and then complain that there's no qualified workers.
Hi Janine, what supplements do you take or would recommend? I’m looking to work on my morning routine and energy. By the way you are such an inspiration ❤
Hi Janine, I really admire your approach to business, but I think Codie's point may have been overlooked here. She's highlighting the challenges of the average person starting businesses like restaurants or hotels. It's oversimplifying to gauge success by looking at examples like Gordon Ramsay or Lululemon. If we only focus on the biggest success stories, every business would seem fantastic. Starting a restaurant or hotel involves numerous risks, especially for newcomers with limited capital. While all businesses have their challenges, some are inherently more manageable for average individuals. Naturally, the level of risk someone is willing to take varies from person to person. Certainly not implying that I possess anywhere near your level of expertise, but dismissing Codie's perspective as uninformed ("She has no idea what she's talking about") isn't entirely fair. She brings significant experience from her time in both the corporate world (at Goldman Sachs and Vanguard) and her own entrepreneurial endeavours, which have contributed to her wealth-building journey. In any-case, all different perspectives and keen for more content - a collaboration/podcast with Codie would be interesting. Cheers,
Codie is trying to appeal to the average person who wants to start/buy a business. A restaurant would be a very costly investment for your average person and you wouldn't have the same notoriety and customer base as a millionaire such as Ramsey. Your commentary seems out of touch with the average person looking to get into business.
Absolutely, understanding the essence of strategic spending is vital for any business. Understanding your cash flow and making informed decisions about where to allocate resources is what drives sustainable growth ultimately.
Hi Janine ! Hope you are doing well. Here are some how to Video ideas I would greatly appriciate if you could do. 1.How to plan ( includes planning in daily life , in special ocations such as holidays & upcoming exams to not miss out the important things. Planning for diffrent phases in life) 2.things to do before starting out a business 3.how to control expenses
I have to disagree with you. C Sanchez is presenting probabilities and I personally had or invested in some of the businesses she had mentioned and can confirm what she is saying. Not sure if you had or currently own businesses to share your experience. Again she is not saying all retailers are bad but presenting probabilities and nothing wrong with that.
Hi Janine. Great content, thank you. How do you deal with an employee that has been part of the business since the beginning, has been developing and growing well, but not enough to be capable of taking the business to the next level. No intention to let them go, just probably need to restructure the work and hire more skilled person for specific tasks?
How to know when is the best time to start a business with a young family? Soon enough kids wont want to spend time with parents, is there an ideal time you wish you started?
Totally agree! Competitors can offer valuable insights, but our main focus should always be on providing exceptional value to our own customers. Authenticity and staying true to our unique strengths will always set us apart from copycats.
