Nice shots Lee. I've used one of these for woodland and it can create a nice soft effect, but I think it works best with lights, particularly at night. Also good for portraits and filming video when you want to make any skin blemishes.
@@Robert-Bishop thanks mate, I've seen it used in woodland before but not tried it myself , handy filter to have for some Cityscapes at night etc. Just struggling getting out at all at moment lol hope your well and enjoying the vanlife !
@@AndrewWaltonPhotography thanks mate, woodland is certainly something I need to test this out on, still thinkna light source in the scene is required for the filter to have any effect. Will get out with it again soon I hope. Hope you enjoyed your trip down the West Country mate 👍
I was hoping I would see my car as you drove through Ramsgate to get to Margate 😃. Margate is a great place for photography, wonderful sunsets facing London (West).
Interesting Lee - I’ve seen this used in woodland too and it’s definitely a subtle touch - I hardly use my filters nowadays as I usually bracket and adjust in post with the software being so good (that generative AI image was scary btw) All the best and take care 👍🏻
@@AndrewHamiltonPhotography yes many filters are now easily replicable in photoshop and other software, but I can see why sometimes tou might want to put on a filter and save yourself that step in post . Enjoying your campervan adventures mate 👍
I forgot to say a lot of these filters are somewhat obsolete nowadays Lee, my choice of Camera has built in Filters of various types and with lightroom and photoshop and luminare and various others personally I think they may be phased out gradually, I know this is a subjective view but I think this is where it's going. (K&F filters are not particularly expensive I know).
@@sanclewphotographic Hi mate thanks for the comments, I agree I used to use grad filters but you can get the same results in software nowadays , the black mist was only 1/4 so there is a 1/2 and a full one strength wise , will keep it on me for my next woodland outing see what it does there, thanks again mate, take care.
@@johnturnerphotography thanks mate, genuinely impressed with their filters so far, much cheaper than other brands but I have not seen any noticeable determination in image quality 👍
Thanks for the info mate. I've tried K&F tripods and never had any luck but I've heard their filters have really become quite good. Very cool that they've reached out to you to help promote their products! Hope you are doing well pal...big game today 🏴
@@paulcookphotography Thanks mate, I gave not yet tried a tripod but I have to say the filters seem very very good especially at the price point compared to the Lee filter I was using. Well made, no colour cast and magnetic so easy to use and swap out. Hopefully the game tonight will be just as impressive!
Nice one Lee - great to see how things are looking down south. You got some great images, as always. My faves were the waterfall and the first one of the woodland area. 👍
Thanks Robert, is a lovely part of the Country , The waterfall shot just presented itself while we were just exploring , glad i lugged all my gear along that day. Thanks for watching mate.
Thanks Andrew, just about managed to coble something together out of the clips I took. The waterfall was a nicenlittle location and black a tor copse is a lovely area took some getting to from where we were but enjoyed the walk
Had no intension of making a vlog when I started but half way round I thought I had lots of video clips and just thought I would try and make something out of it . My narration needs some practice but enjoyed putting it together
I really enjoyed watching this Lee, I've been thinking for a while about voice over narration being the way forward for my location vlogs and I think you've just convinced me as this was really engaging to watch.
Thanks Dave, it was only really half way round the reservoir I thought , I could do a voice-over I had taken a fair amount of b roll by that point. Think I may need to brush up on my narration skills but I think it came out OK. Look forward to seeing what you manage to put together soon!
It seems every view in that valley is just picture perfect! What stunning large views and beautiful intimate scenes. So many wonderful images captured in this one mate, my personal fav was that beautiful waterfall scene at 5:20 - love the way that tree hangs into the scene. Really enjoyed it mate. Hope you are well and having a good week!
Great video mate! What a beautiful location although the weather looked a little rough with the wind and changing conditions. It looked like there could be multiple compositions available from different angles that would work in different weather conditions. Always nice to go back to a beautiful location. Great.images mate and the original one from 2019 was spectacular! Hope you are well pal, have a great weekend 🏴
Thanks mate, I ment to go round the opposite side but got chatting to a fellow tog and then lost the light , it's a lovely area. We're all hope you and yours are.
Nice one Lee... a location I often admired from others work and somewhere I would be sure to visit if i was ever in the area... the church and them rocks lend them self to good compositions and even though you didn't come away with a colourful sunset your selection of images was really good... I think the last image was probably my fave. Good watch.. atb Alan
Thank mate, still yet to venture round the other side of the church shooting towards where I was , just have to return again ! Thanks for watching, hope your well , 🙏
Not the best images.😮 I thought they came out great given the weather conditions you had to work with. Whilst you were talking about shot number two, I was thinking I'd go for a portrait shot with the rocks in the foreground leading you up to the church.....and low and behold that was your third comp.😂 nice location and a good video Lee.
It’s one of those locations you can visit over and over and come away with something different Lee - definitely a bit windy up top there but that works well with the cloud movement. Lovely shots and hoped you enjoyed the break - all the best mate 👍🏻
It's a lovely area , Dartmoor, visited a few places that week not really able to vlog much of it as its ment to be a holiday , so trying to strike a balence and the weather was not kind really Still great to get away. Hope your well mate and good to see you back posting videos !
Hi lee i was there a month ago, camera gear, the wife and two dogs, nearly got blown off the edge of the cliff right where you were.. great place if the conditions are good.. i think you got some good shots tbh, but im easily pleased 😊 Al the best mate
Lol , thanks. It does get extremely windy there. Hard to get a bad shot I think , just different conditions , but I love the location. Thanks for watching and the comment lol ! 😆
Nice tutorial. But I'm wondering what 50% grey layer actually meant for and how it calculate the color information of this layer? Is 50% grey layer used only dodge and burning image? Besides dodging and burning what more use of 50% grey layer?
I only really use a 50% grey layer for dodging and burning , its just a technique i been using for several years, as with many things in photoshop its not the only way but my preferred method
The tripod is the three legged thing Winston , think they have a version 2 out now, great tripod from a great British company. The head is a geared head from Benro , after many years using a bullhead u made the switch to a geared head and for landscape photography it's fantastic. You can really refine your composition easily with the geared controls. Thanks for watching hope that helps. All the best.
Really enjoyed the video Lee, that first image looked fantastic with that atmosphere. I know the feeling when losing a bit of kit, even though small it's damn annoying.
Thanks Chris, luckily I had a spare but can't afford to loose another , still nice to get out again in the woods and yes the first couple of images I quiet like just as the light appeared. Thanks for watching mate 👍
I’d agree the bluebells are earlier this year Lee looking back at my images from last year - been out a couple of times to my local woods but not had the right conditions to capture anything decent. Losing kit is par for the course of in this dangerous game 🤣 My mic dropped off my lapel as I was boarding a train but luckily I heard it drop and rescued it otherwise that would have been very costly ! Loved the early sunlight images and the muted light later on still proved to illuminate some pretty scenes . All the best mate 👍🏻
Beautiful images as always Lee. My faves were the ones at the beginning with the sun coming through. I think the bluebells were out a bit early this year. Some nice wild garlic around too.
Thanks mate, I liked the earlier ones , been looking for garlic near me but cant find any close enough to me to get there at sunrise or set at a reasonable time ! Look forward to seeing what you get!
Shame about you lens cap, although I half expected you to say a monkey had reached out and stole it at the zoo, at least then you'd have a funny story to go with the loss! Yeah I agree about the bluebells sprouting early, I definitely thought that this year, haven't actually had chance to go out and capture anything myself yet and noticed a small coppice of bells near my house that are already looking past their best. Good vid mate, nice to see you out at it again
Good video Lee I have noticed that a couple of places I've been to this year are no were near as good as last year I haven't captured any bluebell photos this year
Thank you mate, yes they are ealier but not sure they are any better than last year, at least at King's Wood anyway. Not made a video for a while got a new vlogging camera u am trying to get used to . Thanks for watching mate 👍
Great video pal, nice to see a bluebell video. I haven't seen as many this year for some reason. I know you mentioned not the best conditions but love the light in the first image. I think I've seen these woods in another video of yours before, nice to have such a beautiful local go to area. I think we have bluebells here in West Virginia so I'm going to be searching them out this weekend. Our wildflowers are really going crazy right now. Hope you are doing well pal. Good to see a video from you, top notch photography as always mate. Have a great weekend!
Hi mate thanks for your continued support, i have made a few videos from here in the past as its about a 50 min drive from home and a large woodland, sadly not so many interesting trees but for bluebells it is a great display. I was happy with the first couple of images when i did get some light but after that i struggled, mix of weather and practice i think. Good luck in your search and i look forward to seeing what you capture in your beautiful part of the World. Take care mate .
From the car park i went along the paths on the left hand side and headed for Bluebell fields which is on google maps , maybe i needed to head off the paths a little more but they still look great.Look forward to seeing some images from you :-)
