Hi there! I'm Cade Utterback, and I dabble in all sorts of things - music, games, cartoons, video production, and everything in-between! I created this channel way back in the day to house my weird and wacky creations, and after a few rebrands, I think I'm finally content with the CartoonCade channel you see today. Here's hoping you like it, too!
You'll find all sorts of videos on the channel, but here are the main series of videos I'll be sharing: "CartoonCade" - Your typical analysis/review videos, now with a helping of the CartoonCade style and flair! "In The Groove" - Fun musical analyses from the film and TV world, among other things! "The ArCade" - My hot takes on video games get brought to light! "The Late, Great Show!" - Thoughtful discussions on celebrities who will forever stand the test of time! "John Mcfars" - That's top secret... for now...
I hope you enjoy the channel, and remember to keep on keepin' on!
Hey Cade figured I'd let ya know just in case it's not on your radar that warner archive just but out a new bluray of the show They did a new transfer going back to the camera negative and have all the specials from the dvds on it Curious to know what you would think of it
Thanks for letting me know! I heard about it when it was announced but I haven't seen any copies out in the wild yet. I'd like to get my hands on one sometime. It would be the First BluRay I've owned, but it would be very much worth it! Unfortunately it negates that section of the video where I mention that I didn't think the BluRay would ever get completed or produced.
Perhaps at some point! I've got a lot of video ideas on the backburner, and I'm usually open to suggestions. Can't promise anything, though! I'd be interested in checking more episodes of it out.
Officer Dibble and Ranger Smith typically have several heel realizations in the Top Cat and Yogi Bear series after they unfairly act antagonistic towards Top Cat and Yogi Bear in the majority of the episodes even if their antics and actions are illegal or not.
Well said. I feel as though these realizations do help these characters feel more human. A well-written character is one who can admit their faults. Well, to me at least.
I watched Top Cat occasionally as a kid, as it was shown in reruns. I checked out "The Phil Slivers Show" a few years ago, and I dare say, it surpasses the comedy of Top Cat, and I highly recommend it. Phil Silvers is so likable, and the stories are quite similar to Top Cat as Sargent Bilko is always coming up with some scheme to get ahead that always seem to backfire on him. If the people who made the Top Cat movies were more familiar with the Phil Silvers Show, I think they could have made better movies.
Great documentary. Have you ever noticed that the original theme from The Roman Holidays, a failed re-interpretation of the Flintstone's formula, was reused in many other shows including the second theme from Scooby Doo, The Pebbles and Bam Bam show, The new adventures of Tom and Jerry, and many other shor-lived shows in the 70's?
I loved this cartoon as a little kid. It was on just when I came home from kindergarten. (DOB 07-19-71) It aired on an independent station from Pittsburgh, and I have never seen it aired since. I still remember the theme and background music. It was far more clever than I think people realize. Great video! Thanks!
Thanks for commenting! I love hearing everyone's stories with this show, and I'm glad you got to experience it back in the day! I'm also glad to hear that it suck with you through the years. I definitely think it was clever, always hiding in plain sight.
Always thought Top Cat was such a fun show. Only saw one episode (The King for a Day one) but I still appreciated how jazzy the music was and how oddly unique it was, especially considering the other "funny animal" cartoons Hanna Barbera did. Even before I watched thst episode, the theme song alone carried the series to me. Unrelated, but what's the name of the music you used for the intro? I feel like I recognize it from somewhere and I'm just curious.
Glad that Top Cat could have that kind of impact even with one episode! The music I use for the CartoonCade intro is a piece of Hanna-Barbera music composed for The Flintstones. It doesn't really have a name other than the slate it was given in its recording session, but I've uploaded it by itself to the Internet Archive! archive.org/details/hc8-5-take-3 You can also find many more of my uploads there, including several pieces of music composed for several Hanna-Barbera shows!
There was a song, sung by a woman, in a brazilian samba style where many characters appears singing the back vocals. I can't remember the lyrics, but I think she says: "I got you" and the back says: "all of we" or "so do we" 3x. I'm brazilian and I was a kid when I heard it (thats why I cant remember the lyrics). Can someone help me finding that song?
@@CartoonCade maaan, I've asked chat GPT, I've searched here in RU-vid and nothing... if I could remember at least the lyrics... Someday it will appear again, let's wait for it!
@@CartoonCade it was like an advertising for Boomerang channel as far as I remember. There were many characters from Hanna Barbera singing and dancing, and a woman's voice performing the main song, and the characters singing the back vocals
25:52 - I actually tried watching this movie just to see Top Cat, but I turned it off when I was 5 minutes in. Why? Because in that span of 5 minutes, I witnessed a butt-kissing joke. 🙄🙄🙄😮💨😮💨
@@Ginny2023-ni9vo It definitely has a cult following online! I've been amazed to see a lot of people in that community pop out since I made this video!
I too love Top Cat, with it tying with The Yogi Bear Show (1961-1962) as my favorite Hanna Barbera program. While I love Arnold Stang's pseudo Phil Silver's impression, I really think of it as an ensemble cast show. Benny the Ball, Fancy Fancy, Officer Dibble, and T.C. himself are all great, but my favorite character from the show has to be Fernando Jorge "Choo-Choo" Cossío Arvizu, a.k.a. Chooch. I don't know why, but he just cracks me up. Incidentally, Dibble's Joe Friday monologue 3:43 is amazing, btw. Anyway, great job. Look forward to watching more of your content!
Glad to hear it! This show's music just sticks with me so much!! If i were still in school or running my own high school band, I'd love to transcribe and arrange pieces from the entire Hanna-Barbera library! Not just the occasional theme song, haha.
Top Cat always deserved more episodes than it got. I almost would want it to have a modernized revival, but a part of me worries it just wouldn't be done right.
Gosh I grew up on Top Cat, Cosby, Jetsons, GoGo Gophers, Rocky and Bullwinkle, my favorite Jonny Quest, I loved Jonny Quest, he was my hero, Hadjy made brown people as sidekick, magic, faithful friend of another faith, made being a hindu as normal as the catholic down the street, Dr. Quest, an amazing intellect that doesn't suffer from battle fatique(ptsd nowadays) ie what happens when your best friend died in your arms to twice like my Dad, Bruce Bannon who protects you from the evil things trying to get you. Bandit your faithful critter we had luckily as our own and got to have! Action, adventure, science, interpersonal relations, heros, with the us/US as good, honorable intentions wishing well for others, bad was bad and good wasn't always right, you always knew that the main characters would survive but the peril was real and the conclusion and outcome was in doubt. I could go on about how much Jonny Quest brightened my week and gave me courage and encouragement to face the week with a sense of optimism and hope! Plus so many other great cartoons. You know Mickey mouse, Tom and Jerry, Mr. Magoo ECT!
This stuff needs to be put on a CD. Look at how well Transformers has done and it's only on an LP and already this has sold out from Hasbro plus, Just think how much more copy's would sell if Transformers and GI JOE were on CD and the same goes for Hanna Barbera stuff. Thanks for the post and Good job on this video.
Thank you! I wish this stuff was on CD, too. One of the biggest improvements I believe a CD release would entail would be the remastering. When Rhino Records released a CD containing some Hanna-Barbera underscores back in 1996, the music was clean, crisp and noiseless. The music I've acquired since then almost sounds like it was duplicated onto a cassette, so I've got this strong feeling that the original master tapes have much cleaner audio that I'd love to hear so much.
(This is Tom, not Sandra.) The original cartoon series of "TOP CAT" from the early 60's is the ONLY version l ever want to see again!! Those other versions are just CRAP, in my opinion. Why did H-B, or whoever did these other versions, have to mess with a classic cartoon series like that, anyway???? They should have left well enough alone and dreamed up some other newer cartoon series instead of running this classic into the ground like they did. So stupid!!!! (Tom)
Very nice tribute. I'm glad I've learnt more about the man (men) behind the music of some of my favourite cartoons from my childhood. Such great memories ❤
@@peecee1384 Thank you! I hope more people the world over can learn about and give some respect to Hoyt Curtin, Ted Nichols, and many of the others who made the music for those shows possible.
Great memories here! I was gobsmacked to learn how Scooby Doo got his name (or inspiration for it)! Amazing! Can you please make some more videos about other HB cartoons!? I am learning so much about music and how the shows came about. I recently bought a "Mystery Machine" silver coin, minted by the New Zealand mint. Cheers 👍
Thanks for the kind words! I plan on making more videos in the future - the one I've been trying to work on for the past several months has had a lot of setbacks - but I do intend to make more in the future!
I just watched the episodes the new METVToons has aired and it's now one of my favorites. I love the chill relaxed vibe all the characters have, they just banter so naturally back and fourth. Also, unlike other HB shows, where the character feel a little too mean to be likable, top cat just being a scam artist and kinda sketchy guy makes him much more lovable. Good show.
Luckily, the show has been reran on MeTV Toons, but they are the same prints that are on the DVDs. Warner Archive is making a complete Blu-Ray set with new 4K masters from the original camera negatives. This makes me very happy.
This was one of my Dad’s favorite cartoons when he was a kid in the 60’s alongside Rocky and Bullwinkle and the animated Beatles show. Our favorite cat in the TC gang is Choo-Choo 🩷🤍
You should see TC and friends on "Jellystone!" Spook (now Spooky), Choo Choo and Brain are now women, but TC still never met a get-rich-quick scheme he didn't like and still has a loyal crew of misfits by his side... even if in Jellystone it's Touche Turtle rather than Officer Dibble shaking 'em down.
@@CartoonCade If "Velma" left an awful taste in your mouth, "Jellystone!" is just the thing to wash it out. Especially the episode where Peter Potamus steals Space Ghost's Power Bands for a convention-cosplay. Featuring the triumphant return of Andy Merrill as the voice of Brak!
I managed to catch the show in reruns and honestly it's one of the best shows that they've done wish it got more love Also please keep up this documentary series I love in-depth looks like this at shows like this
Tiny Tim: I'm so happy, ha-ha! Happy-go-lucky me I just go my way Living every day I don't worry Worries don't agree Things that bother you Never bother me! (chorus) Things that bother you never bother me! I feel happy and fine, AHA! Living in the sunlight! Loving in the moonlight! Having a wonderful time! Haven't got a lot! I don't need a lot!
