Punk/New Wave was a return to real Rock 'n' Roll. We grew up on The Troggs, MC5, The Standells, The Byrds, Shadows Of Knight, and The Stooges - and added our own angst to the mix. The Ramones lit the fire, as The Beatles triggered boys to pick up electric guitars. "Back Door Man", "Slash", and Greg Shaw's "Bomp!" fanned the flames, and Hollywood exploded into an inferno.
This "rock critic" is an uninformed imbecile. Totally out of touch with youth. I was 15 when punk hit --you either loved it or hated it. But it changed everything; and in England every kid thought forming a punk band was a good idea and a distinct possibility--powerful.
What an odd collection of middle aged people to have as your guests. Snyder not to blame...the tides were changing...hard to adress the initial power of punk rock.
"Vicious" ?........he's gonna hit you with a flower. Fowler continually undecided to sit back or crouch intently ... Poor Weller......his conquering of the states was just as suddenly cut short......His "angry" social stance only worked in broke England .
All I can see is Dan Akroyd’s spot-on SNL turn as Snyder. He was such an ignoramus! Kim Foley was the only one on that stage who actually produced music, including his own. Yet Snyder shut him down due to his Bowie-like appearance. Jackass.
I liked Tom Snyder although he was a real dink when he addressed Kim Fowley in my opinion. I'm a conservative Christian and see no reason to belittle Kim Fowley. I particularly like Kim and always thought well of him even though many think he was a creep. Kim was Kim and that's more than I can say about a lot of people who pretend to be someone other than themselves.
Mike Marvin It seems to be. The sad thing is that Fowley was very witty. He was a self-promoting con man much of the time, but he had a way with words. He could also really make some interesting connections among culturally disparate things. But what was this relationship with Helen Reddy all about?
Fowley had been kicking around the fringes of the music industry since the early 1960's, latching on to every fad he could. He looks pathetic here, trying to look young and hip but just looking trashy and creepy.
Kim Fowley was pretty much the ultimate creep. I thought so way back then, and as the years rolled on and I started learning more and more vile details about things he did to people, it only reinforced every suspicion I always had about him.
Kim Fowley was a fucking GENIUS! All these CRETINS below whining about shit they know nothing about would make you sick. NONE of them are fit to lick his boots!
Fowley pretending to be the "Thin White Duke"......what the fuck was he thinking ?.....He might've been a somewhat successful left field record producer, but nothing to justify his big headeness...He was mostly known for profiling himself as a "dark sleazy L.A. svengali"....with nothing much to show for it in monetary terms...of that little well known fact 'The Runaways" could testify..."big in Japan" flying back with little yen...... All the more surprising that only one of Fowley's past associates ,Joan Jett, managed (despite her association with him)to create a profitable career for herself....while Fowley chronically languished in cult anonymity.....
At least he conceded that he hadn't seen enough (punk bands) to conclude that's what punk was all about, because it really wasn't. Punks fucked around with nazi imagery like swastikas and iron crosses, but it was all done just to shock and offend older generations. Many punks were actually Jewish. A few years later most of the punks dropped that shit like a hot potato once it started attracting real, actual racists and anti-semites like the national front in the UK. By '78 they were organizing huge events like the 'Rock Against Racism' showcases with the express intent of differentiating punk from shit like the NF.
Want to know how Bellevue gets away with recruiting/cheating, as a public school? ANSWER: They put football players in special ed classes and say they have a learning disability and can transfer them in because of federal law for IEP's (Individual Education Plans).
+Working Copies I played football for Bellevue and can tell you that, while there are several ways they game the system for recruiting, special ed classes isn't the way they do it (there were a couple guys on the team who were in special ed when I played, but they had both lived in Bellevue for 10+ years).
