I also struggled the dynamics section, I opened it up to see if I could adjust the timing offset, but it was already on the lowest. But maybe I nudged it a bit, because last time I felt like I hit gold. got my head around it, got beautiful woody Buchla plucks that opened into soaring leads. There's a guy on Modwiggler that's modded the ASDR to and the Dyn time, he's also talked about switching the log pots on the decay time. If I could find someone to capable of that level of PCB work, it would be so sweet. I'm also wondering about a Deopfer dual ASDR and whether the inbuilt power supply has the juice to run that, and just make a new case, keeping the wooden ends. But after last night, I'm loving how different this sounds to my other synths. Yeah, why would a I want a moog over this. no brainer,
This is great. So cinematic and the setup looks ace… I’m soon going to jump into modular… I’m currently finding the first module to get. Subbed to your channel, I like this a lot 👍💎
I got my since 1 Week i love this thing. I it is how you say the encoders extrem sensitiv but after a little practice it is absolut insane, HP/BP and into LPG this destroys me.
One thing I've noticed with the Footprint 02 vs my old HS8's is that with a well-mixed pop or rock tune, the singer sounds 'enveloped' by the band on the Footprint, a bit off in the distance even, whereas the HS8's (like most stereos and car speakers) flatten everything, with the singer feeling pushed up to the front with everything else. It's different, I've never heard anything like it before.
Wish you'd do a beat making vid with your reviews.. it be boosch init.. ;) my quids on that you'll be back on a sp16 in the next vid .. w@ever just do music from scratch.. enjoyable bloke with super nice setup and sick tunes .. can't go wrong mate 😎✨🔊 kudos!
Appreciate it mate! I did a beat video a while back on the mpc I’ll pass the link. I really should do more I just always forget to film anything 😂😩 And the sp16 is long gone I’m afraid. I really did like it a lot but GAS got me. Thanks again for stopping by!
The envelope & dynamics sections done my head in as well. Ended up selling mine after a few weeks. Sounded great on demos. Just never got my head around it unfortunately.
Adsr waa on my tits too.... untill i realised, for fast things there is the dynamics circuit/filter, whichbis even better. Mark doty explaned that the best
Great review, you really get it! Couple of fun suggestions.... 1. Using only one oscillator, use your regular normal-ed connection with the waveshaper, patch the sine output to another channel and mix to taste. Don't start out maxing the mixer channels, it actually leaves more headroom going into the filter for resonance. Now you've always got hella full bass on tap. 2. Patch out from the filter, dynamics or echos out back into the pre-amp in and adjust gain and level to taste. You will get sweet and nasty distortion to fuzz and it can drive your filter into self oscillation. Have fun! Looking forward to your next vid, subbed!
😂 Could they fix the travel with a button combo? (Hold X and fiddle for finer grain.) I guess with digital it's as simple as a firmware update, but this is probably limited by the hardwired analogue circuitry?
Super smooth tune mate and a great vid!! So the looper stays in time via strike input? .. please do more vids on it 💫.. and yhea it sounds absolutely superb,!! what's your take on the audio quality vs the MPC?
Bruh I just bought theses 01s and the Ex machina pulsar at the same time. Was planning on sending one pair back but I can't seem to part with either... So I'm a few grand light too haha
Hi m8, can the Toraiz SP16's sequencer be Slaved to the MIDI CLOCK from Ableton , ? Either via the Sp16 MIDI over USB or SP16 Midi In 5 Pin DIN input? Cheers m8.
thanks for the video and the insights on workflow, the toraiz skipped my radar and I am in the mpc live universe for sketching around and Ableton for working on finishing tracks. The toraiz has a very appealing interface layout with the Tr style seq and extra filter controls, trackpad, etc. plus the build quality looks far superior than the rubberised plastic on the mpc. What a shame they didn't update and provide more longevity in to the software, missed opportunity. The toraiz could of been an amazing groove box.
The point is precisely that it doesn't try to be a groove box. It's the most straight forward drum programming device I've ever owned (having compared it in use to Elektron Rytm, Machinedrum, DSI Tempest, Akai Force, Ableton Push, Erica Synths LXR-02).
Just found out this exists. I have been on the edge of getting an MPC One+ for a long time now. Just being hesitant due the burried functions and generally being a bit overkill for my use. Such a shame Pioneer has stopped support for this device, seems sick! Yet, priced at still €1000 it is still quite expensive imo. Especially compared to a €750 Mpc One+.
It was a great piece but far too limited for its price imo. The mpc one can be simple but has the power and depth to be intricate if you want it to. Have a look at the digitakt instead as the latest updates for that make it a much more useable sampler. If not that then maybe the octatrack…..but that’s a whole other head fuck hahahaha
@@ThesisOfSyn I have been looking at the Digitakt for almost a year now, but just bought an SP16 at about $600 which I couldn't say no to😀 I'm loving it so far, only downside for me is it doesn't sequence legato midi notes. As I wanted to sequence a 303 clone with it that quite the bummer.
Sound Quality on Sp-16 dwarfs any of the modern MPC, its not even question. If sound matters to you then you better off just using the MPC in controller mode and let your audio interface be the master converter, feel like akai is playing the plastic/software game with us and just pushing the garbage plugins. Love all your videos. Thank You.
I did yea! Sold the SP a while ago now and then sold the pro 2 to get more modular stuff. Then got an octatrack, sold it, and bought it again last month…..it’s a disease
@@ThesisOfSyn I just can’t use the MPC for Audio, the converters are crap. Run a test tone through your akai and compare it to your Apollo, you will hear the difference. I just use MPC as a midi controller, sample in daw with good converters and then drag the field into mpc but still in controller mode. You will hear the difference
