Improvising oneself as a connoisseur of Catania, providing incorrect information, on purely personal feelings only misleads the people who follow this improvised and impractical tourist information channel. Moreover, before claiming that English is not studied in Catania at school, I would suggest Mr. Robert to take courses to improve his pronunciation. The last German worth mentioning as a connoisseur of Sicily still remains Herr Ghoete.
I am from NYC and still live here. I'm researching for my trip to Catania in a few months. The way I look at it is: is it more dangerous than NYC? If it isn't, then it's safe. If it is, then I gotta pay more attention. I always find it interesting how different people gauge 'danger' but I consider NYC quite safe for a big, so I guess it's all relative.
Catania is my city, she isn't dangerous.there are lots of kind people ready to help you and obviously, as in all cities, unsavory people. everywhere you have to be careful and stay in the places where there are real people from Catania
Just returned from Sicily and found it very safe. We were 2 female travellers and used public transport to explore the island, often out late at night. Everyone was very polite and civilised.

Just today my son & his frined aged 22 Y/o They were pinned with firearms in the street in Sicily , Both back/ back bags were taken , all passports & money they were carrying also taken ! This incident occurred @ 17:00 pm ! They went to police station for statement that’s it ! It’s not safe as both of them not drinks Alcohol or getting any drugs ! Both of them students in university in Belgium !

Not dangerous at all, unless youre not streetwise. Its very clear the areas to keep out of, but by and large its a totally safe and eaay going City. Nothing compared to Napoli for being dangerous.

Maybe in the daylight tourist areas. However, statistically, it is within the top 10 ranking of most dangerous cities in Europe. So, asking that question in the title is not a click bait, but a serious point to investigate as a traveller.
