Most of my videos are of my 2003 Nissan 350z, which is naturally aspirated, and makes 310 whp and 272 wtq on Z1's dynojet. I hope you enjoy my channel, please let me know what you like, or what could be better!

My 350z's mod list: Z1 m-spec race intake with velocity stack, NWP throttle body, Blox 3/8" plenum spacer, revup lower plenum, JWT C8 cams w/head work, Tomei Expreme headers, Z1 test pipes, Z1 y-pipe, and Z1 single exit exhaust. Also have Z1 rear diff cover, Z1 non-brembo brake package, Z1 lightweight flywheel, and Z1 mild performance clutch kit, paired to Exedy lightweight flywheel.

Bet Tysm I’m going to get this kit… 6 years later still helping people out.. also that first ground was it connected to the heat shield on the left hand side header? I didn’t quite catch where under the air intake it was located
@jellofuel
@jellofuel 29 дней назад
Some VQ's have a ground that runs from the heat shield to under the intake. You can really only see the thread for it if you remove the intake. I run the Tomei headers, which have no shields, so I put one ground on the upper plenum, and ran it to that original ground location under the intake

Hi hope you still active on RU-vid so if I don't want to do major work but just want a little bit more power could I drop in the JWT C2 without any valve train changes ? or changing the oil pump ? Current full bolt on tuned on Uprev I got Intake, plenum spacer, long tube headers and full exhaust
@jellofuel
@jellofuel 3 месяца назад
Hey, so I thought the C2's didn't require headwork, but looks like they need JWT shims and springs. Their S1 and S2 cams don't require them. People upgrade the oil pump because the regular DE doesn't rev as high as the revup. The revup pump has stronger gears, so if you retune for 7k rpm, it's best to upgrade for it. Realistically, I've never heard of any oil pump failing on the 350z. Low oil pressure is almost always the dam oil gallery gaskets. But for a couple hundred bucks, that oil pump gives that peace of mind, because installing the cams is a lot of work. The oil pump itself isn't any additional work, since it's driven by the primary timing chain, which comes off for the cam job anyways. I think you'd need to lower the upper oil pan, (once front timing cover is off) but that'd be it.

Overall, I'd say they're worth it only if you're doing something else like oil galley gaskets, or replacing timing components, etc. When we first did the cams, there were no plug and play swap kits available for VHR engine into the DE chassis. @jellofuel

I really don't think they drop in as-is. The heads were machined, and the engine builder installed JWT valve and shim kit, which is designed for use with the cams. I think the largest strictly drop-in cams from JWT are the C2's. But they may have changed the sizes since I last checked. Tomei has large drop-in cams as well.

I’d say it’s fine especially if you have cams. The stock de computer will let you change the rev limiter to 7100 but there’s no reason as stock cams lose power not long after 6k
@jellofuel
@jellofuel Год назад
You'd want aftermarket valvetrain, because I'm sure that's the first point of failure when reving past 7k. I've seen a lot of people say you want upgraded oil pump (like revup pump), but I've never heard of one failing. Good to do while the engine's apart though. I'm using stock short block though, ideally I'd have pistons, rods, etc but it's just not in the budget.

Would you recommend going with the lower plenum of the rev-up on a Non revup DE with a plenum spacer ? For now just going FBO no cams
@jellofuel
@jellofuel Год назад
I would give the revup plenum and spacer a shot. If you were only swapping plenums, you'd notice the decrease in useable torque. But the spacer would eliminate that, and you'd make power all the way to redline. Running the regular DE plenum, there's a huge power drop after 6k rpm or so, but the revup plenum fixes that. (at the cost of low end torque)

Cams and labour are pretty expensive relative to other DE "bolt-ons", as much as cams can be considered bolt-ons... without going into injectors, tuner AFR. With the stock cam profile I maxed out the injectors on a non-revup DE (Uprev) more than 1,000 RPM before adjusted 7K redline. How? 3.5" AT intake, NWP TB, 5/8" spacer no bar (or HR hood if you have money), stupid Borla headers, Stillen HFC and Borla catback. That's it. Adding the cam job is almost 2K on top of... just about 2-2.5K spent already. Baseline SAE dyno on a DynoDynamics roller dyno was 235 @ 6,000. Final SAE dyno on same machine, by same tuner (RS Tuning in Woodbridge) was 281 @ 6,400. Adding 46 at the wheels and cutting 6 tenths on the quarter was plenty enough for me. Cams are NOT worth the pain and money.
@jellofuel
@jellofuel Год назад
Like any purchase, it's only worth it if your goals and budget allow for it, which is the point of my breakdown here. I think breaking down numbers deters people from installing cams for n/a DE's probably more than it encourages it. While the heads were sent to machine shop, I did the install with a buddy, so everything was cost effective for me in reaching my goal.
