Thanks for this video. Lot of DE/rev up guys on the fence! The trouble of HR swapping is not worth the power (stock vs stock). This is still cheaper than suprcharging.

You're welcome! I think most revup guys look for a used engine when they start running into issues - would be dope seeing some rebuilt high-rpm screamers. Since the revup has some advantages over regular DE.

Cams and labour are pretty expensive relative to other DE "bolt-ons", as much as cams can be considered bolt-ons... without going into injectors, tuner AFR. With the stock cam profile I maxed out the injectors on a non-revup DE (Uprev) more than 1,000 RPM before adjusted 7K redline. How? 3.5" AT intake, NWP TB, 5/8" spacer no bar (or HR hood if you have money), stupid Borla headers, Stillen HFC and Borla catback. That's it. Adding the cam job is almost 2K on top of... just about 2-2.5K spent already. Baseline SAE dyno on a DynoDynamics roller dyno was 235 @ 6,000. Final SAE dyno on same machine, by same tuner (RS Tuning in Woodbridge) was 281 @ 6,400. Adding 46 at the wheels and cutting 6 tenths on the quarter was plenty enough for me. Cams are NOT worth the pain and money.
@jellofuel

Like any purchase, it's only worth it if your goals and budget allow for it, which is the point of my breakdown here. I think breaking down numbers deters people from installing cams for n/a DE's probably more than it encourages it. While the heads were sent to machine shop, I did the install with a buddy, so everything was cost effective for me in reaching my goal.

I currently have a 2016 370Z. I want to build a road legal track car. However I feel like it’s not worth it to strip out everything since it’s to new. Do you think I should trade it in for a de 350z or just modify my 370?
@jellofuel
@jellofuel 4 года назад
There's so many improvements on a stock 370 over a DE, I'd keep it. You'd want to focus on heat management, like an oil cooler, and hood venting. 370 has better brakes, suspension and wheels right out of the gate, so you're faster than a DE already.
@itchyonion3559
@itchyonion3559 4 года назад
jellofuel right, the problem it’s just the cost, my car rn is basically bone stock, it actually cost the same as a basic bolt on de.(including suspension, lsd upgrade). Also the master slave cylinder in the 370Z is internal which is a pain in the ass. Also I found it to be hard to get in second gear in my 370Z, could be a synchro. Btw, how is your gearbox on the 350z?
@jellofuel
@jellofuel 4 года назад
I like the 370 more tbh so I'd fix the trans, install an oil cooler and go from there. But a bolt on DE with suspension upgrades, wheels and brakes would tear up a track. My gear box is fine, I use redline synthetic fluids and that fixed some fifth gear grind I had when I bought the car 5 years ago
@itchyonion3559
@itchyonion3559 4 года назад
jellofuel thanks for the advice, It seems like all the gearboxes on z have some flaws. I am using the redline as well, it’s a bit better but still grind a lot.

Hi hope you still active on RU-vid so if I don't want to do major work but just want a little bit more power could I drop in the JWT C2 without any valve train changes ? or changing the oil pump ? Current full bolt on tuned on Uprev I got Intake, plenum spacer, long tube headers and full exhaust
@jellofuel
@jellofuel 3 месяца назад
Hey, so I thought the C2's didn't require headwork, but looks like they need JWT shims and springs. Their S1 and S2 cams don't require them. People upgrade the oil pump because the regular DE doesn't rev as high as the revup. The revup pump has stronger gears, so if you retune for 7k rpm, it's best to upgrade for it. Realistically, I've never heard of any oil pump failing on the 350z. Low oil pressure is almost always the dam oil gallery gaskets. But for a couple hundred bucks, that oil pump gives that peace of mind, because installing the cams is a lot of work. The oil pump itself isn't any additional work, since it's driven by the primary timing chain, which comes off for the cam job anyways. I think you'd need to lower the upper oil pan, (once front timing cover is off) but that'd be it.

@jellofuel
@jellofuel 3 года назад
poncams would only need a retune. By engine refresh, I mean we tore the engine apart, did not replace piston rings or anything like that.. Basically stopped just shy of a full rebuild. But we swapped in all new gaskets and seals, and the heads were professionally done with new valve seals. And also installed all new timing components and water pump. Everything else is reused.

@jellofuel
@jellofuel 10 месяцев назад
Sorry for the late response (busy year), but I remember Sasha Anis running high compression pistons on his build, and it didn't show the gains he was hoping for, the DE intake manifold is just too restrictive a bottleneck for the pistons to increase power. 11:1 would work great with ITB's, or that forward facing manifold from merlin machining though.
