We hope to create a library of information on recumbent cycling and the technologies that empower those who ride. Over the years, we've demonstrated our dedication to making the perfect part, which requires knowing just about all there is to know about recumbent cycling. If you haven't had the chance to try us out, we recommend it.

Good tutorial. However, getting the adjustment spot on with cycle shoes on is another ball game. My cleats are slid as close to the heel as possible which brings the toe closer to the fairing. I have scuffed areas on the fairing where my toes have rubbed at the top of each pedal stroke. Quite honestly perfect adjustment is a bit fiddly. There’s a sweet spot you didn’t need to address with a barefoot subject and platform pedals.

Went back again after another watch (no illustrious assistant) with many small adjustments my feet and knees clear and I see just over the top of the fairing. The distance from the bottom of the fairing to the ground is far from your recommended 4 inches. Mine is closer to 14”. Seems good.

@@markrobinson891 Hi Mark. I have the same issue. 6'2" and a size 13 shoe (cleat all the way down). 15" height at the front end. Not much of a bubble (more of a slant on the front end). I can see over the fairing. I'm sure these were designed for an average height rider.

Hi Peter. Unfortunately, we are having trouble sourcing materials for them. The aluminum markets are beginning to calm down, so we are hopeful that soon we can find the correct tubing, or an acceptable alternative.

That explains the installation. Thanks. Seems our kit did not include instructions. On mine I have a 2016 TerraTrike Rover, and done have a more stable Low Rider Rack. Debating about just adding the battery mount to the rack as opposed to using your clamp, the riser, then the mount. Will take another look at it tomorrow.

@TerraCycle say you have a folding FWD recumbent and you’re converting to an e-Bike, is it possible to install a battery mount without affecting the bike’s geometry? (Basically, I still want to be able to fold the bike for storage/transport)

Are all these setups made to connect to a e-assit motor?
@Tcycleinc
@Tcycleinc 4 года назад
They do a good job of holding a throttle for an electric motor, but you can mount other things. These mounts give you either 15mm or 30mm of mounting space, so if you have a light, a mirror, a GPS, or anything that's fairly lightweight and that has a mounting clamp less than 1-1/8in wide, then you could consider placing those atop your steering controls as well!

That's going to depend on the battery you have. We've provided threaded holes in our mount at the spacing for most downtube batteries, and we have an additional shelf (Battery Mount Adapter Shelf) that we sell separately for larger batteries.

I have a Thayer designs ZIP fairing. Very similar to this video. Simple mounting on the hoods ( brake levers ) and very light weight. I have been careful and still in great condition. Have ridden through hail storm rather comfortably. What drove me to this video was trying to find another one. So far no luck.

Awesome machine. I have an idea for you. I recently bought a "torque plate" from Utah Trikes. As a manufacturer of quality accessory mounts, perhaps you are aware of this part. The part replaces the wholly inadequate torque plate that comes with the original Bafang Mid-Motor install kit. The Bafang original plate does not prevent the motor from torquing inside the bottom bracket. The plate designed by Utah Trikes does, but they make it only for one specific machine, the Catrike recumbent. EVERY recumbent tricycle needs such a robust torque plate. Perhaps this might be a new market item that all recumbent users would find useful when adding the Bafang Mid-Drive e-assist. I know if one was available for my AZUB TRIcon, I would be the first to be in line. Just a thought. Thanks for listening.

Hey David, We've thought about making smaller items like these, but the market for electrifying recumbents is still wildly volatile. Utah Trikes does a good job of trying out new ideas and running with small batches of concept parts to see what's possible. Our RnD process is a bit lengthier and we aim for larger production runs, so keeping up with the minute changes in the constantly-evolving electric bike motor market is difficult for us at the moment. Many companies, like Azub, use different brands of motors nearly interchangably because they need to find a good deal, which can be hard to do since recumbents are still a small share of the biking industry. For us, the challenge is in making a product that will fit many different trikes. If Azub is using different motors, then the challenge is more difficult. Add to that the possibility that Azub changes specs within their own line, and suddenly the complications are multiplying. It's hopeful to see larger bike manufacturers begin to back particular brands of motors (e.g. Catrike and Bosch, ICE and Shimano, etc.) because this will hopefully bring some stability to the market. We're far more likely to make a torque arm if we can reasonably assume the marriage between device and cycle is long term. This allows us to properly test our product, and also to feasibly support the product into the foreseeable future. Sorry for the longwinded answer, but I didn't want to just say, "We're not going to do that right now." The truth is, we're keeping an eye on things and will interject ourselves when we feel we can be most helpful. Our RnD list is never at a loss, but one of our best avenues for new ideas is people writing in, so I appreciate your feedback! Yours, Caz

@@Tcycleinc Thanks for responding, Caz. Considering all aspects of RnD, plus factoring in multiple trike manufactures' specs, etc., what you said makes perfect sense. I was able to do some post-purchase engineering on the part I purchased from Utah Trikes and actually got the torque arm to work on my AZUB. I bolted the cap that goes across the boom onto a blade of steel, then bolted that piece to the main body. Not quite as pretty as their original design but it works. By the way, the battery mount I purchased from you guys is awesome. It fits the frame of my trike like the proverbial glove. Thinking about purchasing another one for a second battery. Anyway, thanks again. You guys do good work. Take care.

Oh boy, this might just be the answer to a dilema I've been pondering. Old Greenspeed GTO with Sram Dual Drive removed and hub motor installed. I put a twist throttle in place of the right shifter and moved that twist shifter down below it on the stub mount moved from the Dual Drive internal shifter location. Very non ergonomic. Was just looking at bar end shifters to use with the twist throttle but then realized they run the cable housing external to the bar, not internal... that won't work. I could do what you just showed and swap to bar end shifters and change the throttle from a twist to a thumb setup. Looks a bunch more ergonomic. Contemplating Sunrace 10 speed Freewheel with Shimano XT M772-SGS Top normal Shadow Rear Derailleur, KMC X10SL 10-Speed Chain, and Microshift 10 speed bar end shifters. I already have the derailleur as my original derailleur is getting a bit sloppy and doesn't like to stay aligned... plus looking for more wrap as I've swapped my 65 tooth Rans Tailwind front chain ring on. Presently running 7 speeds x 2 rather than the original 9 speed x 3 x 3 and looking for more range on bottom and top end.
