China's salary market still hasn't caught up to the rest of the world, though local residents can live a very comfortable life given the cheaper price of consumer products.
But what is the starting salary expectations from the smartest students in China?
Their answers were much more modest than I thought!

Seeing these students graduating from Fudan expecting 8-10k salary is just a pain. Every Chinese knows that getting into an uni like this takes unimaginable amount of effects and it feels like it’s just not worth it.

8-10k is not bad by East Asian standards including Japan and Korea. It could provide a good living standard in China. It's also entirely possible to get much more than that 30k/m if you are the right major

Love your channel. It’s extremely interesting to see how different it is compared to her in the USA. Like this video- where that college is extremely hard to get into and only the best get in compared to the US where the best schools actually discriminate against the best, with the most discriminated group being asian. The Supreme Court is currently hearing the case and hopefully this discrimination against Asians will be eliminated. I certainly hope so.

Students graduating from Fudan expecting 8-10k salary is compareable to Students graduating from Birmingham UK expecting 25-30k salary, mind you minumum wage in UK is nearer to 20k so is compareable to 5k or less in china.

Each career path pays differently. Lawyers, Engineers, Doctors are often paid a lot more than an art major.

Smartest is not necessary the best. Book smart people may not be a good fit. Innovative people aren't not necessary book smart and may actually be a better fit for companies. How about the HS drop out who decided to go back to complete and continue on to college, to create a better life for himself? Though may not view as the best but certainly have the "Drive". Smart people often lose interest because they are bored with things (the restrict that is placed on them)! These videos always have students talking about working for companies? I have not seen one person that says working for companies really sucks; It is too rigid; No freedom for innovate and salary is not everything. How about "Fu

@@aznm3to be fair comparing the absolute value is not reasonable. We need to look at the purchasing power. For instance how much do a dozens of eggs cost in US or Australia? How about that in China? I rent an apartment(average condition) in California for 5000 USD which is almost 35000 RMB and I don’t think it’s going to cost that much in China

@johnren5233 Год назад
@@luismvg11 mine is 3 bed 2 bath about 90m^2. It’s an old apartment but in a convenient location for commute. This is the average cost for a 3 bed unit. If you want to rent a nice house in this area it’s easily above 6000 usd per month which is about 42000 RMB.

Is 40000 CNY/month is good salary for sanghai? I got offer !can someone elobrate what's the living cost for Sanghai??
@seanhe
@seanhe 2 месяца назад
That's on the lower end for an expat salary. Still higher than majority of people in Shanghai and you'll have a fairly comfortable kind of lifestyle if you don't spend too much on luxury stuff. Regular expat salary is around 80k CNY a month, based on experience from people I know. Highest is around 200k I think but that was almost 10 years ago. These are all cash numbers, not accounting for any stock rewards.
