I'm always amazed by your extroverted, outgoing social skills, and the personal exchanges you explore with people you've never met. Your humor, your genuine curiosity about others, your handsome features, and kindness is impressive. You have a natural gift of creating something majestic to watch whether of the natives, the landscape or your journey among them. Many of us will never see these parts of the world so it's a unique perspective to view it through your expression and camera. Thanks for the experience Dale. I wish you continued and many safe travels.
Agree 100% with Linward. You have an amazing attitude and characters, Dale. And your adventurous explorations about the places are not done by anyone else before, I think. And that's what we like to watch really, because you are bringing us, the video watchers, really going together with you. That's amazing. I heard that the King of the Netherlands with his royal family is planning to come to see Danau Toba in a few weeks or months. I hope they stay long in Danau/Lake Toba. And I hope they watch your videos before they are coming to Lake Toba :-).
@@bertvdlast bule used to call someone from other country/foreigner but idk why for some reason indonesian people most likely call bule to european and white people
Samosir is my hometown. Trust me, they are only innocent people. If they suddenly "asking" for money or something, that's a joke. They just repeat words they know. Local only know a few english words like Yes, No, Thanks, Welcome, and money(usually for transaction). Don't worry, locals are very honest too (majority). There is a motto: Treat a guest like a king, that's why you found them so friendly. Horas
@@phaulian ikr, the women with the long sleeve is real scammer, she just shouting money money and money. And look at her attitude when he offer him the banana, he grap 2 pieces, what a shame. And the rest of the poeple is just friendly people.
@@Lux-ol6qq kalo b inggris I'm so sorry if village people in our country not so good for english language, thankyou for visiting to our village, hopefully you always health
I really like foreign people like this. Appreciate Indonesian food, culture, appreciate its natural beauty. As an Indonesian citizen, I salute tourist visitors like this.
What I love about your videos, is that you not only visiting countries, but you also tried to blend with the locals. Glad that our people welcomed you with open heart. Greetings from Indonesia.
As a bataknese, it’s very nice to see foreigners visiting our island. These people seemed very nice and funny, do you remember which area of harian boho they sold pecal at? Love your content by the way❤️
08:40 "where are your form" --- " Scotlandia" now Granny, Mother and Daughter all want to be your friends. Lovely warm welcoming people, making your travels even more interesting and exciting Dale.
Hi Dale, shoutout from Singapore. Thank you for being nice, friendly, interacting with people from other culture and sharing it with us on youtube. Hope u will have more great adventures. Stay safe too during these trying times (pandemic)
3 countries I like in Asia Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia they are friendly, kind people doesn’t matter how you looks black , brown , white skin color they tread you equally .
Hi Dale. I watch your videos a lot. it was so amazing. Thank you for visiting Indonesia. Anyway, I saw you struggling a few times and ended up being misunderstood while trying to communicate with the locals. Here are some sentences that you can use at least to fulfill your main needs. Hopefully it will make it easier for you when you come back to Indonesia If you looking some place to eat, just say : saya mau beli makan If you ask for the price : harga berapa? If you ask for direction : kemana or lewat mana? For example you wanna go to bukit holbung, you can say "bukit holbung lewat mana?" If you ask for the distance : berapa jauh? Fork : garpu Spoon : sendok No ice : tidak es Ask for the cold one : dingin ada? These sentences do not comply with the Indonesian spelling rules. but they will understand what you're trying to say
In 6:30 another mistranslation then a misunderstanding, Dale, about the price of the banana. They said actually "Seribu Rupiah satu" which means Rp1000/each. But they did not say it in English correctly, which is supposed to be "one thousand", the "mi pecal" (pecal/gado-gado noodle) lady instead said, "one hundred" =100 and the young pretty lady (her daughter) said, "ten thousand" = 10 000 (her English is quite good) because certainly, she thought you want to buy 10 pieces because impossible in her mind that you would buy only 1 piece = Rp. 1000. No one buys only 1 piece of fried banana since it's already very cheap. Therefore when you thought you bargained to 5000 (to receive 1 piece of banana) actually the fried banana lady was preparing 5 pieces of fried banana (5 x Rp.1000). Confusing even more, because the other cheeky "mi bakso" (meatball noodle soup) lady said "7" because she expected you will get 7 bananas instead of 5 bananas and she wanted some of your fried bananas. I am also a Batak and I speak Batak, English and Bahasa Indonesia. Batak ladies are very friendly to tourists. And certainly also to white men (in Indonesia we call white men as "bule" [boo le, "le" like in left]) as it's already well known from long time ago when Samosir Island and Lake Toba were visited by many foreign tourists and ex-pats, who were majority white men ("bule") long before the 1990s. After the Asian Financial crisis and Indonesia political crisis (Reformasi) in 1998 Lake Toba was suddenly dead with tourism. And I think the people in Lake Toba, Samosir and the other surrounding areas are longing to see Lake Toba and North Sumatera generally flourishes again with tourism. As a Batak person, I thank you so much that through your RU-vid videos you are helping to promote Danau Toba (Lake Toba) to the world. I also edited and uploaded a video here about Lake Toba that you can check out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LMufnxghlIQ.html
6:37 Berapa rupiah, berapa rupiah, Ibu? Then the woman says "100" because she didn't know how to say "1000". Then you hear "seribu, seribu" (1000! 1000!). And when she holds up 5 fingers, she means five bananas, asking you "How many?". They should be 1000 each, which is what you got.
Oh man that girl she's what we Tobans say "Bunga Desa" literal translation of village flower. The playful old lady is aware of this, cracks a joke that's common for local taste when she said "I love you" referring to the Bunga Desa and the handsome bachelor just so the girl would blush (apparently job accomplished ). I'm actually single, I wonder if you could arrange introducing me to the girl somehow, maybe she's one of your subscribers, I won't hold my breath though haha. I'm glad you get the old lady was just messing with you when she asks you for money, it's very local taste to mess with people a "wee" whom they find endearing.
Bro your uncanny knack of mingling with localities is absolutely brilliant .... the more I see your vlogs, the more I get to know you and your beautiful temperament .... travel safe
@@factshouse3690 I mean it doesnt matter if you're using grammatical sentences or not. As long as people can understand what youre saying, thats the point dude. You don't blame any mistake coz we are still learning!
Hi Dale I've been binging your videos. You're the most down to earth, authentic travel vlogger. No one else captures the beauty of the place, lifestyle, customs and people of a country/area like you do. Really hope to meet you on your travels sometime!
Thats what real travelling is exploring the local food and culture..like the way dale's interaction skills..wonderful! Asia is good but wud love to visit beautiful UK and scotland one day!
Well, fyi, the rice noodle with peanut sauce and cracker that you eat was actually called as "Ketoprak", you need to eat it along with lontong (boiled rice cake inside banana leaf), cucumber and bean sprouts too!
@@Lightnatural oh you're right! I think that was pecel.. I'm sorry I didn't hear that.. Thanks for the information! I just found out that pecel also can use bihun (vermicelli) in it.
I love to watch your video, this is the only one channel that i never get tired to watch...you reminded me of my late dad, he also was a solo traveler like you are and he knows the price and love do the bargain :)
That man desperately wants you to mix the noodle 😂 And look after you so dearly by asking them "he needs more sambal, he needs water". Greetings from Samosir.
I'm Indonesian women,i look your experience in my country Indonesian very best experience you make it,when you buying pecel and banana fried it's very best food and cheaper you eat but delicious. And when you still humble for around people look you and i feels so happy look you video, don't forget back to Indonesian and the city of Jakarta.. God bless you man...
They keep changing the price because actually, we can buy the "pisang goreng/ fried bananas" as much as we want. I'm Malaysian but Malaysia and Indonesia are like siblings. Hope you can explore more in Indonesia & Malaysia too. If you going here, don't forget to try visiting other states in Malaysia such as Terengganu (try their keropok lekor - like a thick fish chip?), Kelantan (Dodol - some sticky rice), Johor (Mee udang), Selangor (lots of different food) come & visit Malaysia again. There is a lot of local food you haven't tried yet. We have Chinese, Indian, Malay cuisines and if you're going to Sabah Sarawak, there are a lot more types of local food too. Me too haven't tried all
How beautiful isn't it , this is what I'll say happiness is a very pure and wholesome conversation, no showoff, no luxury things , a bunch of happy people laughing and enjoying the moment and presence of him made the moment a biy more sweet.
They don't understand fork neither spoon and that aunty was very flirty and kinda greedy 😂 that was fried banana. It's really nice seeing you not getting angry
Been living in jambi, Sumatra for about when I was 4 or 5 till high school loved the people there, great to see people still very generous you make me want to go to Sumatra again🤗, loved your video it's very interesting thank you for coming to Sumatra 🙏🏽
Dale Philip Haha, it’s alright not everyone understood all the food around the world but please do not drink the water from a bowl it’s for washing your hands 😂
Love how you stay in a area and explore vs. race through in a couple of days really get to see and experience the local culture beyond tourista type travel. Peanut sauce & rice noodles,,, yummo.. but you gotta mix :) any noodle or rice with a sauce on top become Sir MixAlot
yes ,he tried hard to tell him to mix up the peanut sauce, so it's good to eat, sumatran villager triyng to give best service to him, but he can't communicate with him very well 😂
We Batak people are very happy to have foreign tourists around...most will treat you well..some ignores you just because they don't understand english.
Those people are honest people. They gave you a normal price, real price. even though they know you are 'Bule'. This is your first video i've seen, good to see it. Be careful of scammer everywhere you go, cuz not all people are honest and kind.
The woman who tended the stall beside the gado-gado said her name was: "Tukang Bakso" which meant Meatball Man. Lmao as an Indonesian I know there are some people like this who joke around like this.
That's will be something special u know. When u are going abroad or visit some places with diffrent language and you don't know what they said, just flow like a river with their gesture. And Happy for u that you can struggle enough.
some of your vlog videos on Samosir, this is my favorite video. when in the minute 3:44, I smiled at the expression of the man watching you eat and suddenly he smiled and I laughed seeing his teeth. Btw the camera girl is so cute
