In this overview, I'll compare what you can see with the naked eye vs using a $500 smart telescope (Dwarf II, Seestar S50) or telephoto lens (Tamron 100-400mm) vs using a $2K to $5K telescope setup featuring my Celestron Edge HD 8" and APO refractor Telescope. The video showcases views of the Moon, the planets, and captivating deep-sky objects such as the Pleiades (M45), the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), the Orion Nebula (M42), and the Horsehead and Flame Nebula (IC434). I aim to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the various ways to enjoy the night sky, ranging from the cost-free experience of stargazing to the enhanced views achievable through telephoto lenses, telescopes, and Astro cameras.
Clear skies!
Wido.

Normally I don’t watch long videos but I am so glad I watched this one. I always get asked what is a good scope to buy and your video helps answer that question. Showing the same subject with several types of scopes makes it easy to choose. So many people buy the super high magnification and cheap scopes and they end up in a garage sale a year later. For a little more $$ you can start with an electronic scope to see if it is a hobby you will want to stick with. I plan on keeping this video and show it to anyone who asks what to buy. Wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Hi Wido, This is a nice well-produced and informative video. Although I own the EdgeHD and it’s great for some nice Astrophotography, I’m considering getting a Dwarf II, as it is so portable. I can take it with me on trips and sometimes that allows me to access darker skies!

Tx Martyn! I put in some extra effort for the holidays :-). I like these portable smart telescopes. Great for stargazing and basic AP in remote places. Merry Xmas.

It’s tempting but I’ll stick to my Dwarf and the new firmware/app which will be released over a couple of days.

Not the Dwarf telescope, but what was the name of the other automatic telescope you used at around the 15:00 mark to photograph the horse head nebula?

That's $5,000 well spent if you ask me. As for myself, i've managed some Sunspot images and a bit of Jupiter the weather has been so unkind. Still, two of my favourite things to do with my setup anyway. Loving the deep space images. M45 is a treat, and a real coffee table shot. I did get one thing of note though. I caught a small fleet of Starlinks crossing the solar disk. It's up on my channel if anyone fancies a gander.
