This J&M’s look GREAT!!! You can’t compare the finish of a shoe you’ve worn for a year vs a couple of weeks lol.

I surprised my boyfriend with a great pair of J&M model Tabor. Retail at 110$ they look like a upraded version of the famous Stacy Adams model with a nice padded rubber out sole. He loves them very much.

I think both are worth the money. The Johnston Murphy are beautifully made and are typically very supple but the Edward Green are works of fine art and worth every penny

Also eBay has some steals. Usually shoes will depreciate by at least 40% off if they are worn even remotely. I’ve seen some George Cleverly Chelsea Boots go for 240 (MSRP 700-850~), Gaziano&Girling go for 500-700 (MSRP 1.1-1.3k) and same thing applies with Edward Green. Very good steals typically

EG shoe leathers are french calf. Double tanned. They use the best part of the leather only(without even any minor blemish). ___So yeah EG shoes are one of the best shoes money can buy. I have ordered a pair of Newmarket shoes from them. Their customer service is extraordinary.

right, EG is fine about calf. i spent almost 20y with it, and had to dive in "aqua alta" with to "kill" them . they have some shell cordovan Galway today ... so calf or cordovan ??
@Spring-ni4vq
@Spring-ni4vq 2 года назад
@@antoinev9733 cordovan is the best but the catch is wear them at your own risk in tropical summer/asia or middle east As they are non breathable. Otherwise they are the best. Thank you.

@@Spring-ni4vq thx , thinking about boots, mainly i avoid to wear in summer, prefering ... espadrilles (more ... "breathable") :) Just Galway in calf are quite "formal" too ( sad Shannon disappered). i used them as "cocktail's shoes" sometimes. to say, i live facing ocean, my Galway recieved ocean salt during a long time. i was fully confident. "aqua alta" in Venice was an accident. travelling, i was not able to react, dry and take care in the best ways after this kind of adventure. so , i agree, from what they went through , the leather is a high quality leather. In my opinion, EG is one of the best in RTW. Oh, i forgot ... Shell cordovan is mixed with suede on boots by EG ... maybe a good idea ? conclusion: dark oak calf and mink suede is the one i prefer ... so ... why do i ask :)))

Thanks for your video. Beautiful EG shoes! And. As I’m sure you know, you purchase price was exceptional for a new pair. From time to time you can find new EG’s deeply discounted but those opportunities are rare. As far as EG custom MTO orders, prices for this service start at about 2K and head straight up from there. True bespoke are even higher. But Edward Green does make lovely foot ware!!

Also, on a side note - on the customer service front - they are unreal. They will even relast your shoes for like £275 - so if you buy some second hand and don’t quite get the right fit, they will get them perfect for you. So find some for £300, relast them, and you will have the absolute perfect shoes for half the price. And they are absolutely worth it - they will last two decades if you treat them well.

Don't get me wrong, EG make excellent shoes but the best stitching and soles there is... definitely not lol. I guess it was mostly hyperbole, but still when there are soles with more tapered waists and full fiddleback construction, handwelted construction, etc. The latter, mostly found in bespoke or custom shoes, would be considered better than the higher end factory shoes of course and have higher details all around in most cases. Still, was a fun comparison and story on finding such a steal for the EG! Great pair!

you are comparing China made or asian made shoes with english. edward green shoes have the best stiching together with a few other brands. all the things you mentioned are not a hallmark for quality shoes. the build quality is. english shoes are indestructible and other shoes are more design and special stitching etc, but i have never seen an italian brand for 1300 dollars that have the same leather quality as john lobb or EG.
@Ikari777
@Ikari777 3 года назад
@@iaido01 There's brands out there that rival or even surprass these English brands for leather quality too. That's a very subjective and situational evaluation though. Many top makers use the highest quality leathers and cut from only the best parts of the skin, and have much more "waste" when it comes to that hence the higher prices.

To someone who isn’t a true shoe aficionado, Crockett & Jones handgrade are almost indistinguishable in quality from Edward Green at half the price. That’s not to say Edward Green is necessarily overpriced but you are paying for things (mostly labour and quality control) that aren’t necessarily obvious to someone who isn’t any experienced shoe collector. I wouldn’t recommend Edward Green to someone who is looking to buy their first pair of quality dress shoes. Chaney or Loake are the best traditional English brands to start with. Barker also make some quality shoes but I’m not as keen on their styling. Also worth pointing out in favour of Edward Green that they offer a huge range of shoes all made to the impeccable standard. Cheaney Imperial, C&J handgrade and Alfred Sargent Exclusive may be ‘better value’ but the range is much more limited.

I have many very expensive shoes with leather soles. I rarely wear them. They are now only for nice weather and fancy dinners with the wife. I prefer a 150-300 dollar shoe with a rubber sole. Much more comfortable and functional. I will never buy another leather sole shoe again. So many options out there to get a classy look, but useful. Leather soles are old news. Unless you want to slip on your butt or slide around like MJ, don't but leather soles.
