There should be a requirement that quality of “luxury” branded items be QC by external agency that ensures that “Luxury” brands are not selling cheap garb. So if luxury brand actually sells a plastic heel in their luxury leather shoe rather than real leather, it’s identified on the label. These companies will cheap out on quality, country produced (many creating fast fashion out of china and charging a premium price) and quality craftsmanship. Obviously as a consumer you have to be very picky about what you purchase. Great job on the resole!

@nogoodname8133
@nogoodname8133 Год назад
I'm going to play devil's advocate here, the quality of the leather itself is very good, shame they cheaped out on the sole, but what people also forget is you're not only paying for the "item" itself, but you're paying for the design. Which in this case subtle as it may be makes SLP boots immediately recognizable and that design and brand identity also has a value. You're not only paying for the item itself, but for the whole experience and design for these "luxury" items. What makes an item a luxury item isn't necessarily the quality, but the experience around purchasing and the image that item is associated with...

I could just be ignorant...but over the last 10 years, iv had Ariat, Wolverine, Red Wing, and Muck slip on boots as work boots that iv put through hell and back. Iv gotten a solid 3 - 5 years out of each boot. ( I'm a service plumber and drain technician) Each boot was under $250. I mean I'm talking trekking through sewage waste, gravel, mud, fields, concrete, water, the whole 9 yards. Iv never really understood re-soleing a boot/repair. My blood might not be that rich, but paying half the cost of a brand new boot I know I'll get 5 years out of, makes zero sense. People must be on that forest gump life. They really liked them shoes/boots, and they took them everywhere and can't imagine having a brand new shoe/boot.
@mcsc730

If the boots are GYW and made to be resoled then why not? Why add another pair of shoes to the land fill when you don’t have to? I understand your point but most ppl who shell out $250+ for a pair of boots are not doing the same kind of work as you most time. So your 5 year run with a sturdy pair of boots is actually closer to 10 for someone else. So it’s actually beneficial for them to resole than toss. A resole at my neighborhood cobbler is $89 on pair of Redwing 877s. I will not buy another boot for $320 as long as my uppers are in great condition! I’ll get 2-3 years per resole because i alternate with other footwear.

And that's why I wear cowboy boots. Designer brands sell crap. Cowboy boots will always be made the same. And don't even buy cowboy boots from designer brands, I consider those fake, made only for the fashion by European designer brands, not made for work or on horseback like the ones from western wear companies. And a good pair won't cost you $1400, but you can find nice ones at the price if you want too.

Caterpillar makes high quality boots, too. I still have the Alaska 2.0 boots 5 years later and only a couple weeks ago I had to start considering a replacement. I may try the Wolverine Raider Durashock boots next. They seemed pretty good when I tried them at Cabela's

@@user-et5mz5ex9s I've never worn cowboy style boots but for work boots I've heard good things about Wolverine and Carolina. Personally I've had two pairs of Red Wing Irish Setters and I can't complain. Comfortable and lasted me years (still around, but the first pair has sludge from a factory I worked at)

@@chewy3141 I had Wolverine boots before my current ones. I do not remember them lasting nearly as long as my Caterpillar Alaska 2.0's, but there's always a possibility that those were an exception to the norm. As for Irish Setters, I've seen them at Cabela's, but know nothing of that brand Edit: maybe it just has something to do with my patriotism not letting me wear something with a different country stamped on it lol

@@user-et5mz5ex9s Very true, unfortunately only their Red Wing heritage line is made in America, and they're all $400+

@@user-et5mz5ex9swolverine are some of the best boots Ive ever owned. I've worked many brands into the dirt and my wolverines are the only ones Ive ever had last over a year.

I found luxury brands look nice but are less durable it’s frustrating… it’s all branding

If he was using the boots for motorcycle riding, we’re those soles the appropriate ones to put on?
