The bank has the answers. When the account was opened, who opened the account. How it was deposited, lump sum or increments? The only thing the bank doesn't know is the state side of where the money came from but indirectly know the lead answer of who opened the account. The DA should subpoena the bank for all bank records on the account.

Treasurers and city councils are supposed to gain Interest on funds. It's the Auditors job to be reporting the information to the state. Besides, the interest is only a small amount in comparison to the total surprise amt, so I'm unsure why they're focusing on that small bit of info.

We have auditors to keep us from being embezzled by crooked officials. The new comptroller did his job and "found" $1.8 dollars. This is money that can be returned to state coffers and used for the welfare of state residents. The funds discovered more than make up for the controllers salary. Also, when they determine how the fraud was perpetrated, than can install new controls to deter this in the future.

Not sure why they interviewed a poly-sci professor instead of an accounting professor. This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s not new revenue. It was, surely, recorded as revenue when it was received and the cash has just been sitting in an account, which is how it was “discovered”.

The issue should be who created the account and who had control of the funds. There is always a paper trail on accounts. They are taking time to destroy that trail and each of those people investigating will get their cut

Every bank account I've ever opened, I've had to show my ID, SS card, and give proof of residence. This should be a 30-second "mystery" unless it's being used for criminal means with knowledge from the bank.
