This is an awesome point. As a gamer who primarily played sports games starting in 88 and still are my by far most played genre to this day…. Most of the content on retro channels bypass some absolute gems. Cheers to Riggs.

Dusty Diamond's Softball is more interesting if you find the original Japanese version. It's called Softball Tengoku (means parasdise). The players mostly look like cute animals, but cuteness was hard to sell in the USA so they got humanized.

Bases Loaded is also neat (unique?) in that you can make opposing players charge the mound. I used to annoy my younger brother by beaning his best hitters so they’d get tossed for fighting 😏

While Baseball Stars is my all-time favorite baseball video game, Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball was awesome. Used to play it all the time with my college roommates in the early 2000s.

Dusty Diamonds is such a great lesser known title for the NES! One of my favorite sports titles. It's like a precursor to the Genesis "Mutant Leauge" games.

SNK's "Baseball Stars" was the best. You could build your own team from scratch and play out an entire 162 game season.

I remember playing a full season on Bases Loaded. It said if you won it all there will be a celebration in your honor. I think it was just the players with a banner and tipping their caps

I found a copy of Stadium Events at a swap meet in North Las Vegas in 2000. Bought it for $5. The game wasn't very good. I sold it on eBay for a hell of a LOT more than $5!

Bases Loaded was the greatest sports game on NES I had. I had friends with Genesis who would come over in high school and they would ask to play this. RBI Baseball was nothing compared to this. I wish the Switch NES pack would add it. Best sports game I grew up with. I still remember the names of players on rosters for different teams. DeSoto etc. “PLAY BALL!”

I rented Pro Sports Hockey back in the day. It was fun & may well be the best hockey game on the NES. When the video store started selling off their NES games, I was looking to grab it. The box was still there & when I went to ask about buying it apparently someone else who rented it prior just kept it & didn't return it as was style at the time. This was around 1996 so it wasn't worth the astronomical price it goes for now but in hindsight I should have asked if I could have/buy the box as that was in excellent condition.

I'll stick to NES Ice Hockey for my hockey fix on nes (only system I liked hockey on so far, I want to try mutant league tho), definitely like it for its price. I really want to get that softball game, and the horror themed basketball game on master system! Definately remember playing only bases loaded 2 and being somewhat good at getting grand slams. Hey John, I liked this format! I hope you do it for more genres and more consoles!

I played so much of that Dusty Diamond game back in the day. My brother and I built and rebuilt our teams until we had perfect teams. And of coarse Tecmo Bowl as well.

Base loaded one had a secret pitch that made you win against the computer up till the ninth inning when the computer would figure it out. But even then if you were up a lot you would win. Bases loaded great baseball game and the helmet carts when you changed pitcher is classic.

"Thanks emulation!" Thank goodness for emulation. There's several of these I've never played before, and if I was an avid player on the original NES and wanted to get these, I'd much rather test these out on emulation first before spending that amount for them. I know one series that Nintendo missed out on was Mutant League Football and Mutant League Hockey. Both were Genesis only games and the Football one is going for over $200. Mutant League Hockey is about $150. Seriously, thank goodness for emulation!

I only remember that from Nintendo power and other tricks and tips bits it magazines Was fascinated with the fantastical characters but ... Darts xD I should probably go load up the emulator to check it out decades after forgetting about it lol

@@PapaBPoppin theres a couple male and female characters in ir and a monkey, not sure about the robot. The way they have the controls set up for throwing the darts makes it a decent game. I would have never thought darts on the nes could be good

It’s cool that pro sport hockey features real players but I’d still have a tough time dropping $150 for it. I’ll stick with Blades of Steel or NHL ‘94 if I want a classic hockey fix.

Bases Loaded 4 may have the best graphics of any NES baseball game, but it's unplayable because you can't see where your fielders are after the ball is hit.

Dusty Diamonds is worth EVERY penny. It is literally a sports rpg. EVERY player you can pick for team has special abilities. Their abilities can be affected by the field you play on. There is also a day/night cycle. Some players play like Babe Ruth during the day, but then completely awful at nighttime. Some throw fast, can climb walls, can fly, can run super fast, can barrel people over on the base path, can walk on water, can pitch super fast,, etc etc. The instruction manual list every player and their special abilities. Every game is different every time. The gameplay mechanics are great, the music is great. Also, the final game is against the all womens team Amazons. They are the equivelant of MIke Tyson as a final boss/battle. Beating them is an absolute challenge, but doing so will give you that same feel it felt beating Tyson for the first time. So many great memories playing this as a kid and even still in adulthood. What more can you ask for. $75 is a steal for that game. Its worth double that in fun factor.

When I was a kid back in the 90's. My dad had a N64, SNES, PS and an old NES. I remember I used to play the hell. Out of the game Bases Loaded. Even though I like the game. When you are the pitcher. I have always found the controls. To be a bit clunky.

It's only worth that as a collectable to a few people. It's not worth much, if anything to just play it, when we can all play it for free today lol. I didn't play most of these. I played the popular ones; Ice hickey and doge ball. Don't recall playing baseball on nes, but did on Atari.

This is true - just because a game is expensive doesn‘t mean it is good. Commodore 64 - you have to pay much money for Stallone Cobra or Miami Vice as boxed disk versions - and both games are really trash ;-)))

A lot of times a game is super expensive because they were awful and didnt sell well so production on them stopped, making them rare and hard to get. This obviously isnt always the case but when I see a very expensive game I usually think it must be bad 😂

It's still nice to have the actual 'thing' to pop in an actual system to play on an old TV as was intended. It just feels right. But, yeah, emulate everything else, at least.
