Good video. Trash bags are one of the most most versatile survival tools along with a knife and cordage. I’m just thinking a $1 serrated utility knife, maybe even one of those flimsy hack saws, would cut limbs easier than a $1 kitchen knife. Also, a can of beans and a can of fish or ham would stave off hunger more than noodles and pop tarts.
Eric R Pop Tarts are very high in carbohydrates. Which is why the US Army puts them in MRE's. One serious consideration is how much water and energy does your body require to process what you have eaten against its actual calorific value?
Nicely done. I'd have gone with the tarp for the shelter, and maybe added a log wall on a ridge pole for more protection, but for a quick set-up, and good weather, not bad at all.
LadyGreenEyes964 Thank you. I may try it again with different shelter materials, like the tarp and also a 9x12 drop cloth to make a super shelter and try using the plastic bags as some kind of camp cot to keep me off the ground. Thanks for watching.
@@bobswoodlandadventures5722 Fun to watch! Not something I'd try myself, but I enjoy seeing how creative people can be, and especially when they keep it real, which you did well.
That Hoodie should be oversized! Pull your arms inside and wrap one sleeve around your head and the other around your neck. A little sleep bag! You have made it on my ‘best camp’ list!
Very good job man! You choose your items wisely. Im surprised the air stayed in your bag pillow. You didn't have any tape right? Tape would have been a good addition if tax wasn't included in the ten dollars allowed.
Reallybigmonkey1 Thank you Dave. For the bag pillow, as long as there are no holes in it. It kept moving to the sides of my head anyway. I should have let some air out so my head would sink in a little bit. Yeah, I didn’t get any tape. It would have helped with the trash bags. I really should have gotten the the 9x12 drop cloth so I could have had one solid piece of shelter. I thought the bags would be good for the shelter and a mattress. Well, there is always other times and challenges. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
@@bobswoodlandadventures5722 I'm trying to encourage people to stop buying cheap disposal rubbish (please watch "the story of stuff" on RU-vid for why) and use upcycled "rubbish instead" for example political posters are often made from thick, quality materials which make quality tarps. Bulk Chicken and animal feed bags are made out of tarp material. A large tin can be made into a "billy" (for cooking, imagine a metal bucket.) Just use an old metal coat hanger or scrap of wire. For a few dollars a quality knife can be sourced second hand with surface rust. (Let sit in coca cola overnight to remove the surface rust.) Matches can be waterproofed by dipping in used birthday candle wax. These also make great fire starter aids and are useful for water proofing things....an old sheet painted with melted wax makes a great waterproof shelter. Bailing twine is strong and otherwise wasted...so reuse it :)
Just a tip to compress all the air out of a zip seal bag or even the rubbish bags you dunk it into the water then seal it and it will compress all the air out. it works just like vacuum sealing.
One of the few challenge videos where the guy actually slept in his shelter. I would have bought a can of beans rather than the noodles. My favorite of all the challenge videos.
Allen Barnes Yes. A lot of people just got the items. Not many actually spent a night doing the challenge. I should have gotten a bag of pasta instead.
Matt Patterson I was thinking the shower curtain, but wanted to try the trash bags. I would definitely get the shower curtain liner next time. Thanks for watching and commenting. I’ll look for your video challenge.
Yeah you did great with this challenge 👍 I didn't mean anything by the shower curtain thing just that I don't see anyone use them nor have I so I just wonder how it would work for all I know it could be worse than the other bags n stuff but yeah I really enjoyed this and am going to subscribe 😁
Matt Patterson No problem. I know you didn’t mean anything about the curtain liner. I do remember seeing one person use the shower curtain liner, but everyone else seemed to go for the blue tarp or the 9x12 drop cloth which is probably as thin as the trash bags I used. I would use the curtain liner if I would do this challenge again. Thanks for the sub and I subbed you too so I can know when you do the challenge.
leighrate Yes, but I didn’t grab enough for that. I could have rolled them up put them in a trash bag to use as a pillow. Next time I do this challenge I’ll do it differently. Thanks for watching.
Love your idea for a toaster! However, I would have liked to see the cooking of the soup. Also, with the amount of bags you had at your disposal, you could have added to tour tent and used your waterproof bag as a pillow. I liked your ideas though. I'm tempted to do this challenge myself, give it a female's perspective. I'm used to camping, I lived in a tent for 7 months when i was much younger. I had some scary moments, but think I would like to try.
Suanne Dorman Thank You. Yes I should have used all the bags for my shelter. The vacuum storage bag I used to hang my food up in a tree. I knew there is a coyotes, raccoons and skunks in those woods. Then a few weeks after this overnight, I was told there is a black bear also in those woods. Give this challenge a go. It was a lot of fun and a great experience.
Suanne Dorman Yes. I forgot to record heating the water and eating the soup. I should have gotten a bag of pasta. Pasta would have been better than those noodles.
Dwayne Robertson I might of said Pop-Tarts a few times. Lol. Pop-Tarts are good. Thank you for the sub. You stay safe out there too. Thanks for watching.
I think that this is the first video of yours that I watched, I don't know how long ago, and I don't think I commented, but as we here in the UK 🇬🇧 are on a lockdown, I thought I'd give it another gander. You should have taken a leaf out of the late Frank Short's (Eastern U.S. Bushcraft and Survival) book and made a raised bed. Great video as per usual Robert, all the best to you and yours, and stay safe and well 👍
Ian Robson Thank you. Yes, if you can try this challenge, go for it. A raised bed would have been great, and I should have filled the bags with leaves. I do miss Franks videos. All the best to you and yours. Stay safe and be well. Thanks for watching.
@@bobswoodlandadventures5722 Thank you Robert, yeah, do you know, I might just give it a go, I've been thinking about it :-) All the best to you and yours, stay safe and well - warm regards 👍 🏴 (St George's day today)
Excellent. You’ve got me thinking. I think I’d go with the drop cloth, two 6x4 tarps, pack of trash bags, same torch, same cordage, pack of ramen noodles, folding knife, matches and bread tin. A single trash bag would waterproof my stuff. I’d use one tarp and drop cloth to make a lean-to super shelter, cut a massive deep bed of boughs for comfort, top it with deep-filled trash bag “pillows” and “duvet” for warmth, and use the other tarp as a blanket. Then I’d spend all day collecting firewood and keep that fire going all night. Winters here in the UK are pretty harsh. Keep up the good work, mate.
Tawnyard Yes. Next time I would make a super shelter with a fire all night. The winters can be brutal here in the Northeastern states too. Thank You and you’re welcome.
From 4:36 ...noooo! Don't go by the pictures on the ramen packets, they write ''serving suggestion'' and the pictures of wholesome chunks of beef and veg are just that, an illustration of what you could make with them... it's a scam really. I haven't got further on yet but I am pretty sure you are gonna be disappointed to find that these in fact only contain dried noodles, seasoning, and perhaps a sprinkle of dehydrated veg in tiny pieces! They are just beef flavour. In Japan there are ramen pots with not just that but also spongy dried squares of dehydrated tofu or soy protein so you get the illusion of having something else to bite into! Still liked your vid though bro! Liked the pillow too.
Simon H Thank you. Yes, I know those cup of noodles are just flavored and dry noodles. But it was a spur of the moment decision. I should have gotten a bag of pasta. Even plain pasta would have been healthier that the junk I got. Lol.
@@bobswoodlandadventures5722 Yeah but it was only one night and the noodles were quicker to prepare than pasta, plus a bit tastier with the flavouring!. Actually someobody on another challenge - the 100 dollar Walmart 7 day challenge vid - gave me some info to show Ramen aren't such a bad idea, he wrote: Ramen noodles have (average): Fat - 7 gram, Carbs - 26 grams, Protein - 5 grams. That is 11% of the fat, 9% of the carbs and the protein is undefined in a 2000 calorie diet. Still would have liked to see you make them using the baking tin. I've come across one or two of your vids previously when looking at bushcraft vids, I think I was looking for tarp configurations, so I am gonna subscribe bro. Thanks for taking time to answer me.
i want to see someone achualy use the gear for a 48 hour challange! nobody does it these videos mean nothing without a practical video situation. your makeing useless footage otherwise. Sorry I should of watched the entire thing thumbs up for trying it. Good on you.
BOMBPROOF BUSHCRAFT Yes, it does go a little ways when you put your survival mind to work. This overnight was a learning experience for me. Next time I would pick a different shelter and better food. Thanks for watching.
@@bobswoodlandadventures5722 getting everything you need with that small of a budget is tough. Specially when you limit the place you can shop and the figuring they really aren't set up for survival situations. So I think that you did all right. The garbage bags or the tarp would be the only way to go. Food...yeah I would be getting a big ol box of lucky charms and munching on marshmallows and oats from the leprechaun all night...lol...its the little things in life that pull you through...LOL
I would make a lean - to with the blue plastic tarp Dollar Tree sells. I carry duct tape and you can tape the garbage bags to the sides of the lean-to and secure the bottom with deadfall for help in retaining heat. Use the tape to repair tears , fix a broken knife handle, attach knife to a stick for a spear, wrap around a cut open plastic water bottle to handle hot liquids. Good job and we all need to think outside the box.
charles webber Thank you for commenting. I would get the drop cloth next time to make an enclosed shelter with a fire going all night to see if it would heat up a little bit like a super shelter.
zip 269 Yes I know. But I found out after a few weeks of doing this overnight that there is a bigger night threat in these woods. A black bear. But that’s not going to stop me from doing more overnights. I’ll just have a fire going all night the next times.
Matis Joubert Yes, dollar stores here are called dollar tree which everything is just $1.00. We do have dollar generals and another dollar store that items are $2 up to $5. Thanks for watching.
Er. You do know that the pictures on instant noodles bear no resemblance to what's inside right? ☺ Why TF did you buy a vacuum bag? Oh right, obviously to put over your head. OMG. You've been listening to grasshopper. Say no more. Have fun 😊
