I would love to know what difference a cheap fake racket for 20 bucks makes compared to the original with the same strings and string tensions. I think that is necessary to properly compare the rackets otherwise the cheap strings will perform much worse or at least very differently because you are not used to it. I recently bought 4 fake Arcsaber 11 for 15 dollars each and I cannot tell the difference. For me as an intermediate player the strings make a way bigger difference than a racket could ever. So if you guys plan on doing something similar again, I would love to see what differences you can make out when you play with a cheap vs expensive racket but with the same strings.

@@manuel4964 Cheap/Fake vs Ori High End -Materials: the Cheap ones won't hold its frame shape if you put high Tension on it (29-30+) They would simply either bend, crack or Snap. -The Feel: usualy High End Racket had more riggid Frame and Shaft, thus make it hard to bend/Flex... but much easier for control and accuracy purposes

Congrats on your win in Ireland! It would be interesting to see you test a racket costing around £30-35. That seems to be the minimum spend where, instead of just toys like that $10 racket, you start to find lightweight, full-graphite rackets, that can be strung to a decent tension, and on paper at least, have similar specs to the more expensive models - so we'd see what difference all the fancy materials and technology really make!

Not to be a spoil sport, but this video seemed very clearly to be sponsored so they wanted you to see that the more expensive rackets are nicer haha. This definitely wasn't a scientific test, and I truly wonder if an amateur came that close to beating a professional player just because of a racket? (or perhaps was there in fact some staging? lol)
@zaleost

Really I suppose the big difference is that a using a higher quality racket dramatically improves a players consistency, where especially at a higher level placing shots accurately and returning them with minimal effort is critical.

@@slamer2000 ive played for over 11 years now. There is a noticable difference using the budget racquets. Ignoring the Victor sponsorship, mid range and expensive racquets will do the job serious players need. Best is to do some research by watching videos like this and join some badminton friends to try out their rackets to see if its suitable for your playing style. Rackets are too 'personalised' that the best player's racket might not feel right in our hands. Gotta try lots of rackets and narrow down the ones which you can play with a slight advantage.

@smartsquirrel1
@smartsquirrel1 Год назад
Reality is that even with a $50 racket, Greg would trounce an amateur. There's a huge difference in training/skills/conditioning etc. This is their full time job compared to someone that enjoys it as a hobby. Reality is this, a good racket helps and the right racket can make a world of difference. At the same time there are plenty of other variables that an intermediate player needs to consider. Are they fit enough? Do they practice enough? Do they have the right shoes (most important)? Do they work on their shots? Do they take coaching or analyse their game? There's a lot to it. But I certainly feel that less about the price point, but is the racket style/build suitable for the player?

First of all congratulations on the Irish Open win. As someone who has played badminton for almost 18 years, starting as a junior in my club just for fun, now competing and coaching. Also have worked selling badminton equipment I agree with the premise. A 10€ or dollar racket is for playing outside with family in my opinion and the more expensive ones do have benefits. Although I think that most players especially beginners, intermediate players, and juniors tend to choose rackets that are too high level for them in terms of their physique or technique (skill). Same with strings and tension. Or too thin grips. There isn't that much research in badminton concerning the subject but in tennis, they have found that many (juniors especially) who play with too stiff rackets, strings and tensions which tend to create problems in the future, like tennis elbow, compromised technique and so on. From what I have seen this does seem to be the case in badminton too, and I won't lie I have been guilty of it too. People seem to forget that professional players train so much and have done so for so long that their bodies can take a different kind of abuse and do things differently than us lower-level players. I would imagine you for example have had thousands of repetitions of for example the net kill or drive with a coach correcting the mistakes away. Which makes it so that even if you are using a higher tension, stiffer racket and smaller grip you are able to squeeze and then relaxe your grip without causing problems. While for many it could cause pain (not just soreness) in the forearm not because it is a bad excersice or technique but because the equipment doesn't help (having a thin grip and high tension) or the technique isn't correct in the first place. You can't see what you are doing when you are training and our awareness isn't always the best. I at least have found that many times I think I'm doing something like it should be, but when watching video of myself to find it isn't even close. Or having a coach tell me that.😅

From personal experience, it makes a huge difference but as said in the vid, it won’t take the same tension as something higher end. The cheapest racket I’ve strung was the yonex voltaic lite, around $50, and it can take max 24 lb, could probably take 25 but it already started warping a bit at 24. I can’t image a $10 racket taking anything above 21 lb. And with the price of string and labor(probably not stringing yourself if u got a $10 racket), you might as well just buy something better.

Interesting video. I watched a similar type of video of video comparing a dirt-cheap tennis racquet to a top professional one. In that case, whilst the expensive one was obviously better, the cheap one fared pretty well and in several aspects was actually more appropriate for a beginner or casual player. My badminton racquet would be roughly in the $100 range and I really notice the difference when my strings snap and I have to use my one of my spare (cheaper) ones.

More I played I realised I can squeeze that down to like $40-50 and get what I need. You need torsion stiffness for sure, need to check the T doesn't twist, and you need enough quality that it can take enough kilos for the string. But apart from that it's more about just if the parameters are right for you. For power u need head heavy, for speed you need head light. Anything else just seems to make zero difference, and having checked these parameters I know already I will also like the feel of the racquet.

How does the victor thruster f compare to the yonex astrox 100zz (both in 4u) I'm thinking of switching but have no way of testing, also congrats on the Irish open win👍

Interesting Video again. I would like to see how you grip your Racket Greg. I want to use Towelgrip too. Can you show that in your next Videos?

Congrats in Ireland also you've settled an age long debate I feel I have with alot of my friends. Buying a £100 badminton won't necessarily make me better but it's a start, as I improve the racket will help towards that! Thank you.

Very nice video, I guess the video gives us amateurs confidence that our win chance against a pro player increases when they use a lower price pointed racket hahaha. Would it be an idea to do a similar test with the shuttles? Like a test with nylons, low budget feathers and high budget feathers?

Thanks Jettro! And thanks for the suggestion, we'll add it to our list! 😃

I like my racquets to be at the stiffness of mid to stiff. And my strings to have a hard feeling

That's interesting, what about the old T-joint rackets, the high-end one back in the day, like an old Carbonex 8

Very good channel, great content guys! I am recreational player, I plan to upgrade racket soon. If you have an option of Victor Thruster K 1H H or Victor DriveX 09 M, which you would recommend? My budget is approx. 60-70 EUR. Thanks!

Ha, nice video, as always 😁 how much of the bad racket is actually the bad racket and how much is it you as Pro players being used to completely different flex, string tension etc.? E. g. if you played daily for 1 week with the bad racket, you would probably get used to it to some extent and beat Hendryk with a greater margin again? 🙂
