@@bluemage1 I'm so glad that I wasn't the only one hearing that. I was so confused, trying to find out if there were any MOM or aftermath cards that involved Toski.
You need to replace the evolving adaptive with teething wurmlet. Adaptive felt like a trap to me, since we are playing small creatures that get bigger and doesn't even have +1/+1 counters, meanwhile wurmlet procs off of one of your hardened scales and curves extremely well with it, procs off of a few of your payoffs, and wants the +1/+1 counters anyways
I think it’s probably because it’s a budget deck. Not that Teething Wurmlet is a particularly expensive card, but Evolving Adaptive is VERY cheap. Plus Teething Wurmlet is a rare and I think he does at least try to keep the Arena price down a little bit
Skrelv is also a good one drop here with or without the Teething Wurmlet. It acts as protection that you don't need to hold up. Unblockable is great when you have one or two massive creatures. Oh, and it is an artifact for Wurmlet.
I wish arena had a crafting system similar to hearthstone where if you get cards you dont like l, you can like "disenchant" then for what rarity they were and craft the cards you want
Everyone wishes that but they want to make obscene amounts of greedy money. I dropped arena when archives came out because I saw the writing on the wall if they are increasing the rarities of cards to make them harder to obtain what else will they do? I play exclusively MTGO.
I also feel like making room for ajani sleeper agent in the sideboard can help with the control match up. It acts as a card advantage engine that survives wraths and gives you a way to win by just jamming creatures
i'm not playiing magic right now, but i still watch all of these, it's a great way to enjoy magic without playing. seth is the best magic content creator bar none
I love the deck theme, I've been trying to make it work since mom came out. I know you said the evolving adaptive is a bit awkward because it doesn't get +1+1 counters, you can run the 1 mana backup creature instead as a replacement. Other cards I've tried out that has some synergy is doomskar warrior, the backup angel, and even wandering emperor is good as well. Idk I'm not criticizing the deck, just want to present other options for people interested in this archetype. Great video, love your content.
Someone else pointed out teething wurmlet. Grows when you play champion or Ozolith, also grows if your duelist happens to die w/ a siege veteren in play.
Hey, Seth. It’s interesting you’re worried about how many rares the deck has for arena, when with wildcard packs we now have a value of cards on arena. The deck has 22 rares and 4 mythics (not including sideboard). At $2.50 and $5 respectively, that means the deck is only $75 on arena. I know I’m not including uncommons and commons but I doubt the 12 uncommons would make the last $25. Potentially going forward you don’t need to worry so much about keeping number of rares down in your budget decks?
Seems like there is a lot of fun jank potential here too, What came to mind is have a Abzan build of this with the new Ayara's Oathsworn. Of course that is gonna be a lot clunkier and probably not gonna be aggro anymore, but sounds fun.
I'd love to see you take an idea I've been playing with lately to the highest level in standard. It's a fun little combo deck using one of the creatures featured in this episode (kami of whispered hopes) and spells that pump and untap the kami to put out huge amounts of mana in one turn. I also have the new tyvar creature from the aftermath set along with tyvar Planeswalker in the deck to make it absurd. So far I just have a big burn spell as my finisher so would love to see what other directions this could be taken.
Botanical brawler has to be playable in eternal formats, right? It was extremely impressive in these games, almost always a 2 mana evasive 9/9 at least. That's basically the same as murktide regent.
No Quirion Beastcaller? Been working on a GW artifacts with Teething Wurmlet, Iron Apprentice, and Patchwork Automaton. Make Go For The Throat useless.
I’ve been running a Kami and BB deck in ranked and it’s insane how fast you can skyrocket BB’s power and steamroll your opponent if they can’t answer it. Especially with cards like Storm the Seedcore and Invasion of Moag both only costing 4
Kayla's Reconstruction hits both Scales effect and many pieces, and the Dork Scale allows to get a lot of mana for other reconstructions. I think that a Coco-like version of this might be slightly better, and still in-budget.
Have you thought about trying to find a spot for Tribute to the World Tree in this deck, or is it hard for the card to shoot in because of how heavily green it is costed?
Am I missing some synergy with evolving adaptive? I don't see anything that cares about just counters, its all triggered off of specifically +1/+1 counters. At one point Seth said, "grow the adaptive, grow the brawler" but the brawler didn't grow, as can be expected with the text on the cards?
That early scoop is fine considering the main reason you're playing these games is for content and the less time you spend in a loosing game the more matches you may get in. Thank you for your time and effort.
In my opinion enduring bondwarden is a better slot instead of evolving adaptive, synergizes more with the deck overall and is actually useful late game, and blocks super well dying and moving the counter to your vampire to draw a card on the enemy turn
What about "Ollenbock Escort" as a Selfless Spirit instead of Evolving Adaptive, slightly less aggro but it's good synergy and protects your brawler, i think its not bad as a 1 drop
I got to play one of the pre-releases where I opened an Atraxa, Ozolith, 2 of the +1/+1 Kami, 1 WG +1/+1 creature, 2 of the Phyrexian +1/+1 creatures. Add in more counters and incubators and i had a constructed deck.... Went almost undefeated... Only lost was do to lands. 4 color is hard. Shrug
I run green-white counters in pioneer and have been for close to 2 years, and oh man the brawler, so good. I opted not to do kami or ozolith here, they are a little too slow / too legendary for pioneer. I am tempted to maybe slide in like 2 ozolith here but it's working well enough with things like conclave mentor. [I have gotten brawler up to the high teens in terms of size, just massive.] [I run a 4 of those fateful absences in my sideboard because i run 4 collected company in a 30 creature deck, oh but lack of removal main board hurts so much.]
I built this deck and have been playing it since this video dropped. I have been getting absolutely pummeled by mono B and im not anywhere near Seths rank.
I think emperor is probably just better, same mana cost, the ability that puts +1/+1 counters on stuff is a plus on Emperor as opposed to Elspeth's being a minus, and the flash speed makes it a little better against counter spells.
This is a cool deck! I love some +1/+1 synergies, working on fitting then into my commander decks. If i played standard something like this looks real fun, would want to wait for some bans though lol
Yeah I felt really bait-and-switched here. I ended up crafting this deck for standard because it looked fun. Ended up getting STEAMROLLED by every other deck in standard. Mono red? Deck is too slow. Mono white? Deck too slow. Grixis midrange? Deck still too slow. I had a feeling that Goldfish might be cherry picking good gameplay but I guess I had to learn the hard way...
I'm not sure when this was recorded but i don't think Invasion of Amonkhet is underrated. Whenever i watch someone playing against reanimator with blue they are running Invasion.
Are people really down here in the comments getting bent out of shape over early scoops? Sure, from a content creation perspective, it makes for wasted time, but with the power level of the game now, when the Magic gods have decided you fall behind, I don't see the point sitting through the inevitable
Unfortunately, the format has already overpowered this deck. Right after putting it together, I found that almost every match was some Black deck that was well equipped to dismantle a dedicated creature strategy. If you're on Arena, save your wildcards. This deck is poorly positioned now that the Standard meta has shaken out. We would have to see 3 or 4 key black staples get banned to change this, and that's just not happening. Or, at the very least, play 3-4 Skrelv to turn the card advantage war when your removal-heavy opponent tries to kill your enablers. Wandering Emperor in the main also helps some, since it produces tokens to further tax their removal. RBx is still a nightmare matchup, and is almost all of the format, but you can at least turn your 30% matchup into a 40% matchup.
Pls try keeping ur reaction near ur pets place Like we can't see the payments, and the abilities shown at that side 😭 sry new player don't lot abt their abilities
it's not really that different. The whole reason this deck is budget is green-based decks full of creatures with no immediate board impact and that don't do anything (other than just be big creatures) just...aren't good right now. Seth MASSIVELY over performed in this video. Most of the time this deck is going to just one-for-one'd into the ground as it gets overwhelmed by fable/corpse appraiser/atraxa/etali/breach BRX value piles.
Least powerful tron? Nay I say unto thee. I was playing legacy in a tournament. Yuriko ninjas. Ducked around and had to keep a hand with 3 ornithopters. Dropped all 3. I pondered twice wit the shuffle. And brainstormed. Never drew a ninja. Just 3 flying useless artifact birds 😂 🤦🏾♂️
"I wonder how good Ozolith is in other formats." Really good, Aspiring Spike has been running it in Hardened Scales in modern and has had great results. Super promising.
@@MTGGoldfish I mean your running 10 main board and 4 more sideboard. Besides the way I see it, worse case is in games 2 and 3 if you were going to cut an artifact (like simian simulacrum, which I think was your most cut card) you can always just cut the dissident instead for things like welcome and then in graveyard match ups 14 artifacts seems like a decent enough number, that's just my thoughts though. I'm very high on dissident for older formats too it just doesn't have a good home right now there, but it seems good enough for this deck. I will say, 1 less 1 drop is going to suck though.
