Pando My first headphone amp was the Monoprice Liquid Spark a few weeks back and then Zeos did a video on the THX 789... RETURNED it immediately to Amazon and spent $350. Crazy fking amount for any NORMAL non audiophile, but soo damn worth the long term investment. Very happy camper. D30 DAC from Topping as well.

They're still a good combo and if you do upgrade, you're not going to hear a massive difference. You'll hear some but not a lot.

Jotunheim, Magni, Fulla, Modi from the beginning they were very average devices overhyped by the owner of the company and the bunch of blind followers online. When compared with other brands at the same price points shortcomings were always very apparent.

I just deleted my "signal degradation" question. I should have known Z would address any objections. I love this roundup. I have the Magni 3 and the Topping MX-3 so why am I still considering other options? Damn you, 789. I know the new toys are fun but I do wish you would include the Sennheiser HD's in your test bench. I find it interesting you never mention the O2 amp that started this all. We wouldn't be here without NWAVGuy, and the O2. Also, the Magni and O2 were the ONLY two options in this price bracket (especially U.S. made) for the better part of 4 years.

@@EvanZamir The thing with the o2 is that for $99, the atom is better. It's much more cleaner in terms of output, less distortion, and I believe it's a bit more powerful than the 02 as well. The o2, while amazing, has been "updated"/ surpassed by the atom.

A looots of people telling Atom is fully recommended, but only build quality is kinda bad but it have nicest cleanest sound and they do not color the sound... so im thinking of getting it for my Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro 250ohm.

Hey Z, I like your idea of improving the build quality of the Atom and raising the price 30 or 40 bucks. I was thinking the same thing. Also, I think they should lower the price of the A30 to around $80 and then it would be a great deal! I see that they have actually raised the price to $110 on Amazon now. That’s crazy! I want to head and picked up the liquid spark. It will be my first headphone amp and I am very excited!Unfortunatelyo, I bought it on Mono price because it was a little bit cheaper so I could not use an affiliate link. I did use one of your links to buy some headphones though.

Chinese shit: amazon is a no go. I paid 240$ cad for both the A30 and D30 which (if they would cost the same amount) would be 120$ cad for each or 90$ usd. Dilema in Canada is that Monoprice stuff is expensive and USA based stuff is ridiculous because of the import fees. At the end of the day, the topping stack bought on AliExpress was the best deal (by far).

I bought the Magni 3 practically as soon as it released and have been thoroughly enjoying it with the Modi Multibit DAC. I am looking to upgrade soon though and have been eyeballing the THX789 for sure. Might replace the Mimby too for something with DSD & MQA capability. Any advice? I'm currently rotating between the folllowing cans: HD660S, HD598 SE, and TH-X00 Ebony. I would like to venture into higher end headphone territory over the next couple years as well.

I've been doing a ton of research because I bought a Focusrite Scarlett Solo DAC and didn't realize I would need a separate amp. I almost want to return the Scarlett and just go with the OriGenG2 combo DAC/Amp for PC gaming and music listening, but I want to tray the Geshelli Archel Pro with the Scarlett first.

Topping A30 is different (or even simply less good) because it has a cheap op amp (replaceable) and has a higher output impedance (10 ohm for the 1/4 inch output and 30 ohm for the 3.5mm). But it may also be the only option at a reasonable price for anyone outside the US

Agree, you can't buy schiit, jdb labs or many other dacs or amps in Japan. They cost stupid amount of money. Easier to beg someone in the USA to send it to you. I got myself A30 + D30 and enjoy it. I am not sure if Zeos enjoying the "color" that other amps add or there actually better quality. For replacement op amp, there some positive feedback on LT1364CN8 and LM4562NA. Looks like I should pay a visit to Akihabara and grab some op amps...

Stiles o_0 I haven’t ordered any yet but ive most likely decided to go with the jds labs atom because I got some amazing feedback from someone who said the atom knocks it out of the park. I believe these are all good amps I have heard there’s some issues with the Magni 3 wheel and noise sometimes but as for 3+ and heresy i haven’t heard any complaints yet and only complaint about atom is it’s build quality which isn’t a concern for me. They’ll all sound good, I’ll try and let you know more once i have the atom and headphones in front of me

This was before Zeos found the Loxjie P20. I have the Magni 3, P20, Liquid Spark and JDS Labs Atom and they are all excellent headphone amps for the money. They are so good that the law of diminishing returns rapidly approaches once you exceed the $100 price point for a headphone amplifier. And the better the quality of the audio files you use, the better these amplifiers scale. They are a true HiFi bargain, and can be part of an affordable endgame system.

Because my friend lives in California and he can actually buy me there magni 3 and bring it to me so I avoid all shipping and border costs PDV and so on so I dont pay double for unit . Thats only reason why I want to go with magni 3 so I ask you does that unit color the sound , whats difference between JDS atom and magni 3 (is there any difference at all) ? No point in a Schiit Stack anymore since the Topping DX3 Pro exists. Better DAC and AMP for the same price as a stack. I went from a Magni 3/Modi 2 Uber to that DX3 Pro and what a difference. Looking at that 789 now and just using the DX3 Pro for the DAC.

There just isn't any 1-does-it-all tool for us gamers. There is those headphone amps, there is the arc, but noone has what i want. I want a good DAC/AMP that also does studio monitors. I want a switch to choose headphones or monitors. And able to ADJUST the volume for either from 1 knob. Only that, can I have that please? No I cannot, everything sucks on the whole market. I would also wish for a EQ with the old school Trebble/Mid/Bass, but no audiophile seems to want that, since they rather buy a new headphone for $3000 then EQ anything. I guess I just have to buy an old school stereo amp and live with it taking up a huge space on my desk. Since 2019, still everything there is sucks :P

I got the Sound BlasterX G6 for 1049 SEK in December and I would be very interested in how that compare. I didn't intend to keep it and haven't listened to it because I figured the motherboard may be good enough and it doesn't have a built in battery and hence may not be great for portable use but I kinda wonder if it's superior to the other options and one could use an USB power bank I assume. Guess you won't test it real quick but .. =P I have an ASUS B450-F motherboard now and had X470-F before and I'd assume I may get an X570-F with Zen2, the phone I'm looking into is an LG G7 and if I buy headphones now I guess it's most likely the Sennheiser HD58X and V-Moda ones though I haven't listened to either.

Awww, the 789 only comes with a US power brick, and it's massdrop only meaning a lot of VAT and customs fees :( Can anyone recommend a few alternatives to that amplifier? Then I can check myself and see if there is a EU distributor. I was currently planning on buying the JDS Labs Atom for my Sennheiser HD 660 S, but if I can gain an extra eargasm but upgrading to something similar as the 789, then I prefer to spend the extra coins.

I’m curious, what is the consensus on the Audio Engine desktop amplifier? It’s small and capable of outputting to headphones and speakers. Worth it or nah?

I am getting the spark, to pair with a topping dx7, DAC/Amp, now i feel like i should hold up for the 789 cause everyone keeps saying how good it is, replacing the magni 3 because of garbage construction that has cause buzzing and is the most irritating thing ever.

If the positive and negative are different lengths then you gain capacitance (when they are long enough, maybe even coiled), I haven't heard what it sounds like but in house wiring, your light will stay on even when you switch it off. Not saying its anything like your setup, just thought of it as you were explaining shit.

To be deadass honest I don’t regret my a30 at all got use to blue led and volume knob is amazing imo almost powers everything still keeping it even though I’ve emotive a100 and monolith tube amp I can’t sell it just because it’s my first amp and can’t go wrong with it.

Zeos! Try this trick with the Geshelli Archel: put your Schiit SYS between the Archel and a DAC. Turn the Archel all the way up and the attenuator on the SYS all the way down. Play music and slowly turn the SYS up until the Archel is as loud as you would ever want it. Now you have a full range of volume with any headphone and any source on the Archel!

I might sound stupid but are external dacs necessary or can I just use my onboard dac with an external amplifier? I'm thinking about getting the hd6xx and does anyone have an amp to recommend?

Z, the pre-amp outputs of the magni 3 are variable and will not work at the same time with the headphones output. now explain that to me! (schitt says they are to connect to powered... you heard that right... powered spkrs to have a "complete system"... hahahahaha!!! that's bullshit!)

i bought the Topping A30, I rolled op-amps from the opa2134 to NE5532 , which warmed and livened up the sound.

Need to buy an amplifier for my DT990s 250ohm. Would you choose the JDS or the Liquid? The signal will come from an high end computer motherboard (24 bit- 192 khz). Do you guys have any suggests? Can't really find the Geshelli Archel because i live in Italy...

I just got in from amazon the Modi 3 and Magni 3 and Spark. I am trying to decide if i should send back the magni or the spark. Leaning towards keeping the spark. I see there is going to be a matching spark dac soon.
