Same! I'm truly grateful to be able to do something that typically takes me less than 30 minutes, easy, and theraputic as my job. Seeing the customers reaction as well as hearing how much I saved them is an added bonus :)
You are so right, machine dry sanding preparation alone takes forever plus all the different tools and keeping the batteries charged plus the dust particles get over everything and then there’s the layers and layers and layers of tape. Now I do like machine sanding when doing y2k or if the headlights has lots of rock chips but most headlights don’t
Agree! 2K is the biggest issue when it comes to hand sanding. Its the only time I would consider using a tool for sanding, but starting with 320, I can get them done in maybe 45 minutes.
Soap can leave some residue behind if its not cleaned properly. Nothing more sterile than rubbing alcohol, but I'm glad to hear you're at least cleaning it! Some skip that step lol
I have a Honda Accord, but the headlights on it are made out of glass and no moisture has ever gotten inside and it’s never fogged up or anything. The turn signals are made out of plastic though. Maybe I should try and work on this as a nice weather project! 😊
Just water. It helps reduce heat, wash away sediments so the sand paper is in complete contact with the headlight. It also allows me to physically see the oxidation and clear coat being removed.
Hi Ryan, the Maguires Headlight Spray does not have filling properties. The end method we use to restore the headlight is our clear coat found here. bit.ly/44SPaBp I explained in the video that the removal of oxidaiton can be very easy, and that using 10 different grits of sand paper isnt needed.
@@picknswing Chemically, I can't really list everything on here since its alot, however we can email the information to you if you'd like. You'd need to head to the website and fill out the contact us form.
I start with a p500 (dry) sand, p800 finishing disc (dry) and p3000 trizact pad (wet). Next comes the polish, last comes the Meguiars headlight coating. I've dealt with removing 2k clear coat, would rather use a machine than trying by hand. Arm would be noodles before the second headlight.
Nice! So glad to see the methods changing. I see so many people use 10 different sand papers to remove the oxidation, its overkill. How long does that typically take you? I agree with the 2k clear. I don't run into them often at all, thank god.
I did an older ford escape the other day, no 2k, just old-ass beat-up lights. I went thru 10 320 on one light on a drill. When I moved to the other side, I said to myself, MAYBE my 320 was clogging, I used the 3 inch paper to wet sand by hand, and the light laughed at me!!!!!. The lights I get are much worse than what you get for sure. Maybe because I'm 4 hours south of you.
Hi Bob! Its alll about technique. Older vehicles can still have pretty intact clear coat. Its Ironic that you comment that, because I'm working on an in depth video on how to remove stubborn clear coat hah. Hopefully it can shed some light on a new technique for ya, and help you out on the stubborn ones. It should be out in a few days.
Some vehicle lights need to be more coarse. Japanese import uv coatings are trash and can even be easily removed with even 800 depending on how far gone they are. However a lot of euro and domestics like GM/Ford you'll need 220 and a machine to remove it effectively
