I could vouch for these custom keyboards 100% if you could afford them like Oliur said. mine is a KBD67 MKII with brass plate and linear switches (non-silent). I use it for both work and gaming and it sounds and feels so damn good to use on a daily. Sure it could be expensive but the build quality is just incredible, and do think that these would last for years if not decades

My favorite thing about a nice custom mech is the sound, with the keychron, you could just fill it with foam and put silent switches in it to get that effect. Maybe my opinion is uninvited, but I feel like you are missing out on the most pleasant part of your expensive build by going with silent switches.

Mode 65 is more like the Mercedes S Class of keyboards. A Bauer or Keycult are more like the Rolls or Bentley of custom keyboards. I'd say Keychron is like the VW of keyboards. It's nice, most people would be more than happy to own one, but you can tell there was some cost cutting.

Nice vid, as usual! I think summarise Keychron as a brand based on one model they offer (The K1) and comparing it with a 500USD keyboard is a bit unfair as they are intended for totally different customers. :) It would be great to compare it with a Keychron Q1 for example. Even knowing that out of the box the Q1 has a lot of ping and probably needs to be modded, it would be interesting to see if having a Q1 properly modded it's a better value proposition. Cheers

Yeah the new Q1 is an amazing keyboard and if correctly modded i think that it can perform as good as, if not better, then really high end keyboards. I want to suggest that if you want a more bouncy / flexible typing feel, you'd want different material plate either FR4/G10 or PC or POM which all are very flexible. And for the keycaps for Mode65, I'd suggest you look into GMK Lux which suits your black & brass colorway very much. Or maybe try to look different gray ish like GMK Modern Dolch, Domikey Dolch, Infinikey Blacklight. Oh and 1 thing I'd like to correct, the keychron K1 keycaps unfortunately isn't common as the other keyboards since it use low profile switch, and the keycaps are very very limited designs and hard to find. The common switches are using + shaped (called as MX clones) like the one on your Mode65, and they're used on almost 99% of mechanical keyboards out there. Enjoy the Mode65 and welcome to the custom mechanical keyboard hobby :D Oh yea one thing, if someday you find that typing on the Mode65 feels tiring, or too heavy or maybe too light to press, or maybe you want to try non-silent switch (thocky or clacky switch) you can change the switch with hundreds of options out there. GLHF :D

@noidsuper
@noidsuper 2 года назад
@@neccros007 Sound and such depends on the person. I do agree that sound is a big deal for most, but some people are more interested in aesthetics or feel and aren't a fan of loud boards. The foam isn't really to quiet boards down, its generally to reduce pinging or hollowness. A well designed board shouldn't need foam and foam will usually detract from the experience if that is the case. I don't think that the mode 65 needs foam but preference is the name of the game so the option is there. Mounting styles have expanded quite a bit but it all falls under PCB or plate mount in some way or another. Just different implementations of each.

The keyboard space is interesting. You'll keep most of your sanity if you simply regard high end expensive keyboards as a fusion of custom design/art/technology, rather than them being about any sort of measurable performance metric. $100 keyboards = mid high end ready to go keyboards. Perfectly functional and usable, and would be good enough for the vast majority of users. $500 keyboard = custom keycaps, nice cords, nice aesthetics/case, switches tactile qualities to preference. Me... I can't even get a custom version of the stuff I care about in Keyboards - but at least the G915TKL does a pretty good job of matching my preferences (low profile, mechanical, RGB, wireless, TKL). Would love to have a matching seperate numpad and macro board for it - but that's not a thing.

I can’t stand mechanical keyboard that my coworker has. Evert time when he types, it sounds like a machine gun and i feel like i just want to punch him in the face. I have the quiet apple Magic Keyboard.

One of the best parts about mechanical keyboards are the wide range of switches that you can use. There are silent switches, loud clicky switches, smooth linear switches and tactiles with a bump to overcome on the way down. Sounds like your co-worker might be using clicky switches!

I legit think the magic keyboard is better for typing that the others. The mech keyboards are more tactile so much better for gaming
