My scenario is exactly same, I had a good experience with apple magic keyboard and I wanted to connect with multiple devices so purchased mx keys and it worked so well then I broke it. After lot of youtube videos and pouring good reviews, I tried keychron k8 pro and nuphy air 75. They are good but I get typos, and a lot of connectivity issues, k8 pro's height is an issue to me, It cannot be used without a palm rest. I dint like either of these keyboards. I was trying to buy mx mechanical keyboard for the last few months. But, every review in internet makes me double think that decision. Your video gave me the confidence to purchase it and my typing experience is back to normal. I am subscribing to your channel as a token of appreciation :) Keep doing this!

Hey! Did you end up buying it? If so, how has it been? I'm kind of on the same boat, I use an apple magic keyboard for work and its great, small, light and I'm faster and make less mistakes on it. For my gaming PC I have a mechanical keyboard with cherry MX browns but I wanted to get a single keyboard for both PCs and was torn on what to get because the mechanical gives me fatigue after a while, and the height isn't desirable, and the apple magic keyboard is great but for gaming not so much and it can't even be paired to more than one device.

It pisses me off (perhaps irrationally) when RU-vidrs review products but don't research their gripes and things they dislike. It's fine if you couldn't do something or didn't want to do it, but at least spend 15 minutes before spending hours on a video and provide some perspective on the issues you mentioned and how all of them can be fixed

100% agree, 100% same experience. Bought a K3 with many recommendations. Love the ethos / idea behind it. Love the build quality and feel. I can't type on it to save my life. I go from 107 wpm on my Apple Magic keyboard or my MacBook Pro keyboard to around 40 wpm on the Keychron. I can't write code on it without making constant indentation and spacing mistakes, even in a really helpful IDE. Going to check out the MX Keys Mechanical because of your video. Cheers. Have a sub.
@TheStoic84

Probably has something to do with the travel distance. The travel distance for those apple keyboards is ~1mm. The travel distance for any of the switches that come with the K3 is ~3mm(with ~1.7 pre-travel before the switch activates). However, the MX Keys uses the same switches as the K3, so that can't be the issue. My guess is that Samuel was much faster on the MX Keys because it's flatter than the spherical key key profile on the K3.
@dylanneild2580
@dylanneild2580 6 месяцев назад
@@TheStoic84 I think it's the width. The K3 has an extra line of keys along the right edge (Page up/down/home/end, etc). This makes all the keys a little more narrowly spaced. If I reflexively reached for the "P" key, I'd most often just hit the space between "P" and "[" because of muscle memory. The actual travel distance of the K3 wasn't bothering me at all; I was just making so many errors on it that it destroyed my flow completely.
@Silver-fh4fb

I went from a low profile apple magic keyboard to a keychron K8, a real chunky keyboard with switches that have 4mm of travel, and... yeah... it took a while to get adjusted to it. It took a few months at least, but right now im about equal with the keychron than i am with the magic keyboard. And I wouldn't give up the keychron because its just more fun to type on.

Holy shit! I thought it was just me. I literally make a TON of typing mistakes on the Keychron K3 v2. I thought it was just a me problem until I purchased the K3 Pro. The typing experience between the two keyboards are just LEAGUES apart. I can type without worrying about making mistakes on the K3 Pro.

Had exactly the same experience. At first, I thought that I had ruined my typing habits by years of using small laptop keyboards, but, at the same time, I had no issues with regular full-size Logitech desktop keyboards. The Keychron was the issue.

In the clip you showcase promo material of the K3 pro, while you've been using K3. Coincidentally, I too had this Keychron K3, and was hyped over it when I ordered it, but when it arrived I had the same problem you describe - it wasn't fast and accurate typing experience. I attributed it to the shape of the keys themselves (they have a substantial concave compared to most keyboards), and the ridges between keycaps are bigger too (effectfively making the keycap smaller). However, I've changed it to K3 pro, which has keycap shape similar to the logitech keyboards, and it's all very good experience with this one. I was totally digging the extremely well visible RGB lighting of the Keychron K3, though.

It's probably the keycaps. Keychron K3 has rounded keycaps, so if you are used to hitting the edges of the keys, the large grooves in-between will punish you for it. As for the sleep-wake issue, I have heard that it is a problem for many K3 users, but I bought the next-gen K3 Max and the issue seems to be fixed.

I went through a couple of mechanicals, switches and keycaps before I realized a lighter tactile + XDA profile keycaps suited me best. I'm not a particularly fast at typing or anything but the difference between OEM or cherry vs. XDA was noticeable, even more so with the lighter switches. In the end what works for you is what's best, glad you found something you like.

Nice review, have a sub. I actually quite like this keyboard - but as a programmer my requirements are for precision and a much heavier reliance on things like tabs and symbols rather than speed so it suits me fine. I'm also a gamer so I have an inherent distrust of anything wireless, so running it over bluetooth never even ocurred to me. Finally, as a Brit our options are much more limited with keyboards as we have our own special layout and I cant unprogram 30 years of expecting the return key to be double height and using a US layout drove me absolutely mental. I really really like the Apple keyboard a lot, but it's always a bit off if you aren''t using a Mac - and i'm primarily Windows or Linux. Have tried the even smaller keyboards, but end up wanting to smash them against the wall as function keys and arrow keys are a cut too far and completely essential for writing code unless you are some kind of nutcase that does everything in Vim Edit: One big downside for me that it's really difficult to source Low Profile keycaps, especially in a UK layout. The ones included aren't bad but feel a bit silky and would prefer some nicer ones with a bit more texture to them and in a couple of extra colours so I could pick out important keys for like WASD and Blender in a different tone as am not a touch typer and visual cues help my fingers land on the right place.

I did it the other way around.. Came from apple wireless keyboard (pre-magic) and lenovo trackpoint keyboard, the goal was to replace both and kept only one on my desk. In hindsight I should've probably try the mx keys first but caught a mech fever. mx mech: seamless connection with flow, faster wake up, BUT not hot swappable. No cable mode but I don't really care about this since I already on unifying and bolt ecosystem, overall it is too expensive if I had to bought it myself. K3: hot swappable, affordable, great even for the price. It needs some time to wake up but I can get used to it since once it wake up it wake up while mx mech sleeps a lot. My only gripe is that it's only BT or cable mode, no 2.4 rf..

I couldn't agree more. I have the Keychron K2V2 and I type so much slower with tons of errors. What is especially annoying is having the "end" "home" buttons to the right by shift and return, so I have a tendency to end up at the end of my document rather than type in a semicolon. I really, really want to like this keyboard but I just can't get used to the keys or the layout, so it has to go.

you might want to get lighter linear switches. the thing is with mechanical keyboards is customizability. my main is a 61split spacebar with multiple switch types. letter keys are light tactiles, numbers & arrows clicky and layer modifiers are very light linears(for my pinky). I use a 3rd layer for macros, remapped my CAPS as a 3rd layer switch. the difference of sound and feel of different switches makes it easier for me to navigate my keyboard and thus faster productivity with less mistakes. My fastest typer is a logitech K580 =) except i cant work with its tiny arrow keys. I am a logitech fanboy with(g613, g605, g502, g733 etc), and MX mechanical would be worth a try if only it is remappable/full macro-able.

You pretty much nail my complaints with the K3 and I’m scouring RU-vid to convince myself not to get the MX Mechanical 😅

Great video, just subscribed! I didn't like the keychron keyboards either, but I am happy with the logitech g915 tkl for my macbook! 😃

had the same problem with the keychron k3.. I can type relatively well with it, but I make so many more mistakes than I do on the magic keyboard. It looks great and is made really well, but the placement of the keys is just enough off to completely screw with my rhythm.

I was looking for this kind of video. Im not a "Keyboard- Guy!" but I need and want a good Keyboard. I was thinking about a Keychron Keyboard, but now I ordered the Logitech Keyboard. Thanks man!

How’s your experience? Mine is frustrating with the backlight 5 s duration. I’m just trying to overcome it 😢

the faster keyboard in world to type wihout any doubt, is a split ortolinear low profile, let´s say maybe a corne is a great option, but is not easy coming from a clasic keyboards, also depends on the set up, to me is hard to use it since have a graphic table that cost me half of the desk, but for fast type, split orto is the key

Hey m8. Great videos! How did you learn to type that fast?

I agree. Im using a k1 to type right now, and im typing slower than i would usually type. I think it has something to do with the weight of the switches, they almost feel mushy to me

You can replace springs in them with lighter 35 or 45 gram ones. Default springs tend to favor heavyhanded typists. It's really just a matter of preference

I think the non-pro boards suck to be honest. I have one and also a Pro, the pro is night and day better. I notice that with my Keychron I hit adjacent keys easier though so when Im going quickly I make more typos.... Its a hard one.

I had the exact same problem, love the MX Keys in the office but wanted something different for home. Tried the Keychron and refunded it a week later, something about typing on it just felt weird. Ended up getting the Logitech G815 low profile mechanical keyboard (MX Keys Mech wasn't out back then yet) and it feels so much better. Don't know what magic Logitech is using but it works...

Good to know I’m not alone. Something about the spacing or feel.

Likely 2 things - the amount of lube Keychron puts on their stabilizers is insane to make it sound better, so large keys can be slow to return. And the springs on the switches tend to favor hard presses. So basically, removing the lube and replacing the springs should do the trick. It's a keyboard for enthusiasts, so those things are kind of implie

Oh, and as a benefit, on K Pro lineup you get full QMK/VIA programmability that's miles better than the logitech software

Opting for red switches may also be an option since they're slight lighter than browns

I recently bought a ke pro. What i think is that because the keycaps are tilted the other way from the user plus it's high height, you'll have to get an arm rest of a paper towel while typing. Orr follow my cursed setup and keep it on your lap

I had a similar experience with the K3, I believe my issue was the fact that the rows of keys are stepped like a staircase on the K3 (angled stems). I've got a NuPhy Air75 V2 now, and I type much faster on it. All of the keycap top surfaces are in plane. This seems to be the case with the MX Keys Mechanical. Maybe that's why you're much faster on it.

Hello, I would like to buy a mechanical keyboard. I game about 7 hours a day, but I've already had carpal tunnel surgery. Which is gentler on the hands and wrists? Normal or low profile?
