Jamaican rural women make chocolate at home all the time, by hand with a regular kitchen grater and they dry the beans outside in the sun. It is called chocolate tea. It is the most delicious hot chocolate I have ever had. It is the real thing.
@@mervinthepointejamaicakerr4337 what is celebrated on Aug 1st? Have you Thought of selling those chocolate balls that you bring back? Couldn't afford to buy now, but maybe in the future?
This is a great example of a 20 year overnight success! It is a terrific dose of reality for people wanting to get into business! It's 20% fun + 80% taking care of the business and the people who work for and depend on you! Thanks for another great peek behind the scenes of a terrific business! He has some unique perspectives I really enjoyed!
@@DocumentTheDownfallAgreed. You can have all the money and possessions in the world, and still be very unhappy. 'Things' don't bring happiness. Being happy is a state of mind and is God-given.
I work at a chocolate factory and seeing this guy be successful even with small machines is impressive. Gives me hope that I could probably do something similar but I want to gain small customers who already have existing recipes. And instead of them manufacturing the product. I’ll manufacture the product for them. I’ll still need to learn more about the corporate side of the chocolate business but I am comfortable with the production side though
@@nittani.graphic design is powerful and so is marketing. Which is something that I would like to learn. Reason why I am saying that they are great skills to learn is because I make mr beasts chocolate and I was asking myself yesterday. How did his product go from a new product in our schedule to now it’s top priority. Yes we refine it at low microns which gives it its good taste but there are other recipes that take the same ingredients so whats the difference and then it hit me and it’s because of the marketing/brand I used to work in the cannabis industry as well and marketing was the number one thing that made us sell well back in the day. Most of the products in cannabis shops are the same thing. You can have two different carts but they are the same flavor. Besides the price of the carts another thing that a customer looks at is the brand. That’s why I think making a good brand is important but the question is. How to make your brand stand out from the competitors. Why am I buying this 50 dollar heavy hitter cart that is og kush instead of this 32 dollar jetty cart that is og kush?
John is the father of the craft chocolate industry in the US - probably the world. Getting to know John has changed my life. Thanks to upflip for making this video.
By the end of the video I just love the man John. His honesty, his uprightness, and the goodness of his heart. I'll buy from him with my eyes closed. God bless you and your business, and grant you prosperity
Poor people are mostly miserable but rationalize they are fine. Being able to comfortably pay the bills, food, shelter, etc. without stress does buy happiness.
I’m retiring in the Philippines. I have cocoa on my lands. I have wanted to do this, grow, process beans and make chocolate, in my province. Cocoa and coffee are great integrated crops for coconut palms. The cocoa tree also has been used as structures for vanilla also.
I respect he worked so hard to raise his daughter alone. From the warehouse I can see very clearly he has lots of preparations and well organised. We should learn from his attitude.
I would love to meet him. So we can work together chocolate 🍫 business have always been my dream and growing up I was passionate grower of coffee and Cocoa . Will love to bring in Cameroon 🇨🇲 chocolate products here as well as start similar products in Cameroon and USA 🇺🇸
I respect him for not negotiating with his bean suppliers. People that live in the same country do not do that either because they are not greedy. If a customer can buy quality beans and equipment then they can afford the up price of the experience compared to the farmer. Like he said they know what their time and labor is worth.
Happiness is getting what you need, not what you want. And if that need can be fulfilled by a monetary purchase, then YES, you can indeed buy happiness. The key here is that the transaction is very (acutely, in certain circumstances) conditional; not retail and never ever wholesale.
The guy is pulling very very heavy weight for making the money and there are so many other things you can do in life where you don't have to break your f' ing back
True but once he said 100k gross monthly it made more sense. He is know where near the level to hire staff especially professionals who work in that industry already. That’s why most big chocolate factories have existed for years because it takes decades to make a factory. Not even mr beast makes his own chocolate nor does he hire staff to make his chocolate. I make his chocolate. His chocolate is super easy to make but the factory that I work for has a contract with him. He chose us to manufacture his product because we can make 42 tons of his chocolate in less than a day and because of all the food safety equipment that we have which removes that headache from his head. He recently had issues with those ghost restaurants making his burgers and they were not up to quality standards.
But it seems like it’s making him enough money and he gets to exercise everyday. I’ll take what he’s doing and continue doing it at a old age instead of being an employee not even corporate or a manager position interests me anymore
My grandma maked her own pure chocolate big chips at her kitchen home from beans she harvested from her few cacao trees. Very simple. I'm Not really into chocolate though
I don't think money can buy one "happiness", rather it can ensure a level of security and comfort. That security and comfort, coupled with the ability to do things that bring greater meaning to one's life (following one's bliss) brings happiness.
I've purchased beans from CA before -- been 6-7 years -- good quality. One time I ordered a few varieties and they got mixed during shipping, the bags weren't closed properly. CA sent me new bags due the mix up. Much appreciated.
This is probably the most important question here… Especially in the chocolate world, where the producers make a least of all people in the supply chain.
I guess this is why my whole life I’ve been unsuccessful. I just don’t understand how businesses like this actually work unless I’m shown step by step with repetition. Not meant to be I suppose.
My scientist friend (Im a scientist too and we think similarly) I had the idea of the chilli chocolate for years and glad to see you did it and I think it still has a chance to become a thing Another thing is Cynnamon chocolate
Money can buy coacoa, so it can buy atleast a little bit of happiness. Now I am wondering if he does anything with the fruit itself. You can actually buy the fruit with the seeds in Mexico at local markets also. The same is true with coffee berries most people don't even know coffee is an edible berry and the bean is the seed of the berry.
Amazingly Brilliant! I would to get in touch with the cocoa business entrepreneur & learn about new innovations in coco & coffee and the possibilty of purchasing these equipment to make coco, chocolate, coffee etc. Thank you UpFlip for sharing this video. Greetings from Madang, Papua New Guinea.
OH MY!!! This is my favorite story ever on You Tube! Chocolate is my favorite anything of all time. I am so sorry to hear that this wonderful business started from tragedy - but I am sure there is help from the other side!
Tasting is one thing, 5:15)but Never put it back into the bag after touching it with your hands & that looks like it to be sold to customers - where is the quality control/ safety hygiene 😢
not the vid we want but the video we need. 10% profit on 100k sales per month. thats 120k a year. This business can only work in the middle of america with dirt cheap expenses and rent.
So, he sells "everything you need to make chocolate at home". BUT... Can anyone explain to an idiot like me: WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD ANYONE want to "make chocolate at home"?❓❓❓ I must be really dumb, I know. Still...
Why would you want to make anything at home? One in a thousand people might want to do it, but with 8 billion people on earth there would be a huge customer base.
@@hassiaschbi Me thinks: If someone wants to waste so much time as you'd have to for making chocolate at home, then he can't charge those idiots enough because they'll pay almost any amount of money for that.
Homemade gives the maker control over every stage of the process....😉. I can sell you everything you need to make chocolate. I choose to sell something different. I enjoy my process.
Clearly, you've never owned a successful small business, let alone created an industry while being a single grieving parent. He has every right to be proud of what he's done. And he has to be enthusiastic to bring new people into the business. Before this video I never knew you could be a self-made choclitier. Now the guy doing the interview, he's a piece of work, putting the interviewie on the defensive. He's certainly an interesting character.
Weird used car salesman tic’s & hand gestures. Anticipates the question while formulating an answer rather than simply listening, thinking, THEN responding. Seems unsure of himself - imposter syndrome?. Not trustable….but I like his answers towards the end of the interview.
you ever heard of normal human nervousness about being in front of a camera that thousands of people will sit on the internet and snark your every action? I didnt think so.
