I have owned one for 4 years for a family of 3 and I have to say that comfort and practicality wise it is the best choice I have made in a car so far. It is a smart car in the way it is conceived and I appreciate the descent amount of volume offered for an SUV of this range. Options offered are very good for this price compared to other cars like the VW T Roc or Seat agona. Big positive recommendation on this one!
Great review of a well designed car. As you know, I have a new Karoq Sportline, just back this afternoon and perfect again after minor body repair (a truck reversed into it when parked) and now restored to new again. Skoda’s drive in a uniquely excellent way. the DSG’s absolutely do allow crawling in traffic, and are smooth and very refined. The Karoq I own has wireless CarPlay which works perfectly, 4WD, great engineering, with same umbrella and great design features. The Kamiq and Karoq look ‘small’ outside but are spacious and very comfortable inside. No turbo lag in mine, great power, and wonderful road holding. I was cross about Skoda service, but happy again and highly recommend them as reliable, a joy to drive, and built with quality that lasts. Thanks for an excellent assessment of the Kamiq. And yes, the warranty is excellent.
I own Kamiq for 2 months and I got to say, that 3 cylinder engine is very good, I tried the 4 cylinder as well and I like that this one is actually usually quiet but if you step on it you have a nice response from the engine in terms of rumble. When it comes to the AC, you actually have a button for internal air cooling (can’t remember the name of it) and it’s on one of the dials. I also have a style version and in my country it comes with the central armrest in the back as well as raised floor for smooth loading. In terms of hitting bumps, I recommend going for 17” wheel’s instead of the 18 you have and then there is no problem :)
It’s a very nice small car, my wife test drove it before buying the T Cross, like all Vw cars with DSG transmissions the low speed starting isn’t turbo lag but the annoying stop/start “feature” once turned off it’s a lot more pleasant, this is the same with my Passat and my previous Tiguan
The test Kamiq you reviewed was the exact same Kamiq, even the colour, that we nearly bought back in April 2021 and back then it was about $7k cheaper. Like many others at the time, we were in a waiting queue of about 8-10 months before we would take delivery. About 4 months in we decided to cancel the order and instead buy a 2021 Volkswagen Polo 85TSI Comfortline (with drivers assist), which was in stock at the dealership, with the 1.0L 3cyl engine. I have to say, I actually enjoy that engine in the Polo and I like it's little 3cyl 'growl', which is what we call it. I agree with you that the 3cyl may sound a bit 'unrefined' to some people, but I don't mind that, it gives it a bit of character! It reminds me of back in the day when I bought a 1998 SEAT Cordoba SXE 1.6L 4cyl manual sedan, it too had that same sounding 'growl' every time I would change gears! It was one of the last SEAT's to be imported into the country I believe. We're also pretty happy with the fuel consumption, which it currently sits at 5.6L/100km. I don't know the weight difference between the Polo and the Kamiq, it's probably not that much, but I'd imagine the engine may perform a little better in the Polo? The Kamiq was meant to replace our 2013 Peugeot 2008 Active wagon, but we still have it and the Polo became the second car. I wouldn't mind the new generation Peugeot 2008 to replace our old one, but they're just too expensive now. Another good option I think that would also be worth considering, is the Renault Captur in the Zen spec. The Volkswagen T Cross Style is just a little too dull in the styling department for me, however, it's also on the list to eventually replacing our Peugeot 2008. Volkswagen are also releasing the new T Roc CityLife base model in September, which will have the 110TSI engine, but at a lower starting price, which could tempt buyers away from the Kamiq in that price range.
It was the best thing you will have done ,this Kamiq which doesn't have a Automatic Locking System that can be overriden makes it a potential deathtrap.
You folks get a great deal even if it has gone up since introduction - the top spec version in the UK uses the 3 cylinder engine and has fewer toys, the purchase price is £28500 (55000Aus$) and we only get a 3 year warranty!
The 4 cylinder is definitely more refined but not as fun. Having previously owned a polo 70tsi I think I honestly would have gone the 3cyl. Also beware of creaks and rattles 🙃
Yep can't beat the 85TSI 3 pot....been driving that in the VW Polo the last few years....full of character and heaps of low end torque! Just turn off the stop-start for much smoother going!
I am looking at the Kamiq but I have noticed a few people now mentioning squeaks and rattles and that Skoda are reluctant to fix them under warranty. That would drive me nuts for a 40K-50K car.
Why isn't it mentioned in the efficiency section that this requires 98 RON premium? It might be efficient but 98 RON is more expensive, so it works out closer to ~6.2L/100 at 91 RON prices (at a 20c per ltr difference).

98 ron is recommended , not required. All manufactuters state you should use the best fuel you can, but 98ron is not required except for very high performance cars
@@kasparov2312 just to update I have gone and drove one and they are 95 minimum not 98. I still think it is worth mentioning when there are 1.6L and 2.0L competitors that will run on dirt.

Great review. I do worry about Skoda. If they keep pushing up prices (regardless of whether it's in their control) they'll go the way of Opel. They're great cars but they're pushing into premium pricing now. At the moment VW is selling the T-Roc (base model) for 40K drive away. That's a bigger car for less money than the Kamiq.

If the dsg is very similar to the one from the mk 7.5 golf, then it’s a pass for me. Great economy, but just not smooth enough. It’s annoying over a long period of ownership
Nows online is that car prices are about to crash. can you please do a video on that. Specifically was the local dealers are planning. What is the discount and when will they be coming? The forecast in the US is for a drop of 88% and at the moment in China, car prices are discounted 50%.
@@therightcar Well the prices did increase dramatically over the enforcement period and also dramatically over the previous 5 yrs to that. And while the Australian situation is different, meaning that 50% of the price of cars here are Australian government tax; you do have to remember that all advances in technology are designed to reduce the cost of manufacture plus we also have...the name escapes me. We have were many manufacturers are working together to share costs and to reduce manufacturing costs. The reality is that prices have only ever gone up. We are witness to an enormous bubble and that bubble looks like it is finally going to burst. It is happening overseas and I think Australians have to call for it here.
@@trojanhman8136 Prices aren't going to crash anytime soon. Many companies still have massive waiting lists for cars - especially Toyota. That means more people are looking for cars and fewer are available, pushing up prices for new and second hand. Once supply stabilises, then we may see the companies competing with each other again but I doubt if we'll see pre-pandemics prices.
I got excited about this SUV until I heard that it had a DSG. No longer on my consideration list as I don't like the driving experience and the inability to crawl in traffic with a DSG without slipping the clutch. The price is also now too high.
I have had the Kamiq Monte Carlo for a year now. It’s a great car, however the A/C controls within the entertainment system annoys the hell out of me. I love the powered tailgate and heated seats. Unfortunately, mine is missing the rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring due to the chip shortage at the time but it’s really nothing to worry about. The ride is comfortable especially as my previous car was the BMW 1 series with 18” alloys which was quite jarring and was also a bit low and harder to get in and out of.
I have the signature. I havnt tried to adjust the fan speed in 12 months (bought 18 months ago). I find the auto AC does a good job of getting temp right quickly. But yeh, took some habit to change.
Here in Austria we call Skoda "Strassebahn" if you know German, it's halarius how good you speak about that shit because you scared that they don't give you car next time to review it 😂
