When I got out of the Marine Corps in 2015, we didn’t have CSPs like they do now. I went into the wind industry. Over the past 7 years, I’ve raised my income to just over $120k, but I’m always out of state and missing my wife and kids. I heard about Vet TEC, applied and just got my approval letter from the VA yesterday. I was thinking about QA or Sales Engineering (I’ve had similar roles in the wind industry). I finally decided on Careerist last night and now I’m watching you two brothers talk… I feel like I’m taking the right step toward my future. Semper Fi, USMC 09-15.
Unfortunately no. I wrote this before finding out. I took Course Careers instead (paid out of pocket) and used VetTec for a bootcamp for Cloud Architecture. Finished CC last month, 3 interviews no offers, but still applying.
I have been doing research about careerists and the courses they have to others for a while now and stumbled upon this video while doing so. After watching your video I'm sold! i signed up for the Sales Engineer course at Careerist before I even got through the video and knew you even had a discount code. I'm ready to work hard and start. Thank you, guys! Also, I'm glad to hear a Nigerian has done this too because I am Nigerian as well and my mother is having her doubts! Thank you guys again! This video means a lot! God Bless!
Just wanted to say thanks to both of you guys. I haven’t gotten started yet, but I will definitely make some moves towards this opportunity tomorrow. And thanks for the prayer as well. Be blessed brothers.
I’m just finding this video !!! I was going to go back to school for nursing even though all of my experience is in Logistics. I’m going Tech 100%! It’s time for more black women to join this industry.
Im 8 mths late to this video but im sold! I was sold after I saw your interview with AO and this popped up. This was refreshing to witness a way for our community to get above the societal bar.
Amen. 🙏🏾 powerful prayer. I'm enrolled for classes starting March 20th and I am honored to do the work to help create a life for myself that is going to be different from what it currently is. Thank you so much for your platform and your help. May the anointing of the Lord continue to pour onto you and into your journey.
What a powerful prayer yall gave the cake and topped it off with the icing with that prayer in the end. Phenomenal. Just started course careers, I have been a correctional Sargeant for 14 years and just can't do it anymore I've been attacked, administration doesn't value you, we are just a body to them. Imma hostage negotiator a crisis team member a state recruiter for the department and a curriculum teacher for the department I did all that because I got bored. Hopefully I can be successful.
Thank you for your kind words! Sounds like you have a strong background, and transitioning into tech with Course Careers is a great step. Best of luck on your journey!
I havent been inspired like this in quite a while. I am in a Sales position currently & I feel so undervalued and basically like a clown with how they are charging and applying pay tiers. You two have transformed my entire mindset. I am definitely signing up, & shout out to my colleague Alonzo who sent me this link. So appreciated.
That's awesome to hear! It's great to see how inspiring content can make a positive impact on your career path. Best of luck with your journey into tech sales, and big kudos to Alonzo for sharing the link!
Wow I watched the whole video. I love it. A lot of great nuggets I have to go through this again. I start my class for sales engineer in November. I’m excited and I like how you unapologetically love Jesus. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I absolutely love this interview all the talks about god all the respect he gives to his wife all the love and appreciation y'all are showing each other proves to me this is my type of career it fits my personality!
That's wonderful to hear! It's great when a career aligns with your values and personality. I'm glad you resonated with the interview and found it inspiring. Best of luck pursuing a career that brings you joy and fulfillment!
It was meant for me to stumble upon this video and I watch a lot of Cyrus’s videos . This video was so aspiring !!! I am currently a CourseCareers student . I would love to connect with Eman. Welcome to the 615❤
Here from your collab with A.O. I am a single mother, already in Tech at a nonprofit & definitely thinking about pursuing this opportunity. Right now I'm probably working close to 55 hours per week because of our work load & it's stressful. My question is do you typically work a normal 40 hour work week or more?
Yeah, I was supposed to watch this. I was already sold on this but I also just moved to Nashville so him saying that just gave me the last boost I needed
hey Cyrus! Thanks for another great video. Would you be able to put the social media handles of your guests in the description box for your interview videos? That would be so helpful! Thank you 😊
Hey! Yes we do that for the updated videos. I have a videographer now and a team so it makes it easier. But if you view the thumbnail of this video, you’ll see his IG name.
Such an empowering, authentic, genuine, interview. So happy the universe and God blessed Eman to be able to share his insights, gratitude, and motivating words with us all. His story is really motivating and ingniting. 🔥 🔥 🔥
Absolutely! Eman's interview was truly empowering and authentic. His insights and gratitude were inspiring, and it's amazing how he shares his story to motivate and ignite others.
@Tech Is The New Black The advisor was great. I decided to start the program, but due to the larger class size I changed my mind. I tried to find you on telegram.
What does OTE mean? Thank you TECH GUYS for sharing!!! Take away, with commitment and perseverance it is possible and you can do it!!! Again thank you, thank you continue bringing the AWESOME information!!! Peace & Prosperity 💯🎤DROP!!
It means “On Target Earnings” Basically if you hit all your job goals/targets for the year you would be on track to earn whatever the higher salary is. For example; Base: 90k OTE: 130k
OTE stands for On Target Earnings. Sales Engineers & Tech Sales are paid a very high base pay + commissions/OTE. The base pays is usually a 60/40 to an 80/20 split, with the larger # being the base pay. For example, my 1st tech company paid me $72k base and $90k OTE, my 2nd paid me $100k base and $145k OTE (with an additional $12k sign on bonus). Check out my FAQs for more (link in my bio)
Hey! I’ll send you 2 options that I generally recommend. It’s up to you to decide which is best for your goals and budget. 1. General Assembly is one of the most top ranked tech bootcamps & has many courses like Product Management, UX/UI, Digital Marketing and more! They’re partnered with thousands of companies so their network allows you to get plenty of interviews. You can do their bootcamp from anywhere in the world. They’re $4k for part time. ($200 discount link in my bio) 2. CourseCareers is self paced. You can finish it in 3 weeks - 3 months. They offer tech sales roles which the avg entry salary of $65k - $95k. They are partnered with tech companies, so they’re able to help you get interviews with companies looking to hire their graduates. They also have paid internships (up to $21/hr) while you wait to get hired on. They only offer courses for people in Canada & USA. They’re just $449 WITH MY DISCOUNT CODE: Cyrus50 Link in my bio for other FAQs
Thank you for all the information, I’m definitely interested in option 2. Tech Sales is that the entire amount to pay $449 just making sure if I would need anymore money.
I just started Tech Sales with Course Careers only because Careerist took out their ISA option. I reeeeally wanted to go with Careerist but with a newborn, I can’t budge on my finances Also, I mentioned Careerist QA program to a colleague (we work at Whole Foods) with an IT certificate he hasn’t done anything with. Two weeks later told me he didn’t move on Careerist because he doesn’t know if I’m making money by him singing up 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻 he’s worried about me possibly making < $100, if that and I’m not, and not the fact he can be making $15-$20k MORE than he is now. I don’t understand people
He really don't want to do more than what's he's doing RIGHT NOW at WF..Don't worry about that small minded individual-get YOUR bag for you and your family.
@@mkb5984 To be fair, people in his financial situation get targeted for MLMs and taken advantage of. Him being skeptical doesn’t make him small-minded.
@@techisthenewblack More low barrier to entry Tech jobs. I love the transparency with salary as well. Customer success, QA, implementation, Data analyst??? Im not in the game, so I don't really know to many positions.
I’m not even crazy religious but the prayer drive it fine for me man I appreciate you both for this build. Been looking for a way to get my foot into the tech space this just
Careerist just let me lock in a $1000 payment in 2 weeks for the sales engineer course starting September 27th while I apply for SDR jobs because I just completed the CourseCareers sales Tech Sales course. They did tell me they don't let you pay with your paycheck after completing the course because people wanted to scam the system. They get a 4-week course and 4-week guaranteed internship for free then wanted to screw Careerist over after getting the job they wanted now future students who might not be able to afford it upfront will be affected.
@@yoyobeam1269 Its supposed to be 1K to start and the last 2K within 2 months. I got an email saying i started a 7 day trial tho so im contacting support. The counselor that got me in wanted to talk but sent me supports email when i had a question so watch out for that but my contract did say only $3000
@@yoyobeam1269 I actually chose to start in last months class a week late because everything is recorded and the presentations/documents are shared. It was 1K to start with 2 ad-on payments because the -$300 back-to-school deal and a discount link from one of these RU-vidrs brought it down to $3200 but my contract only said $3000. I only have 2 more classes to watch and I'm caught up.
Here are the 2 bootcamps we most recommend! 1. Careerist (the bootcamp I chose) These courses are 6 weeks long, virtual and are 8pm - 10:30pm Sun- Thur (Eastern). They record their classes In case you miss any. They are not partnered with tech companies, but they fix your resume & LinkedIn to industry standards and they assist you with finding jobs to apply to - in order to help set you up on interviews. They also do interview coaching & provide really good interview cheat sheets. They’re about $4k, but I have a $300 discount link that you use with their sales too! The discount Is attached to the link automatically. Careerist Discount Link: crst.co/techisthenewblack 2. CourseCareers is self paced. You can finish it in 3 weeks or 3 months. They offer tech sales roles only & are partnered with tech companies, so they’re usually able to get you a tech career quickly or a paid internship (up to $21/hr) while you wait to get hired on. They only offer courses for people in North America. They’re just $449 with my discount code that gives you $50 off! Discount Code: Cyrus50 CourseCareers Website Here: coursecareers.com/cyrusharbin
I needed to listen to this im thinking bout getting into tech.. my friend telling me to go for it.. I think before getting into tech please please listen to a experience tech personal.. my friend has 15 years and atleast 8 years of school.. most tech company don't want to pay no higher than 150.. u have to really be on your stuff.. those late night when deliberal.. are due my friend be up.at least 14 to 15 hr a day.. it good money but everything ain't sweet and simple.. u have to keep studying.. stay up to date.. if u not confident and vocal in your info this isn't for u.. I appreciate the video I follow your other podcast channel to where u interview more successful tech individuals.. I follow u cause ur fresher and new in industries.. I would love to do the course.. I like honest ppl not scam and know what u talking bout the up and downs of any industries ppl are putting there last in this including myself.. #respectfully
I never heard of this role until watching your channel. I’m trying to transfer from law enforcement and this job is calling me lol i feel this is exactly what I’m looking for
I am probably going to start Careerist this week, but for Manual QA. Can we please get an interview with Eman’s wife who works in QA Automation⁉️🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I sat through 2:30 hours of this podcast and I’m much more confident that a regular person like me can get into tech. I live in south Florida would you say the entry level positions here are considerably lower than most cities?
Your confidence is key! Entry-level positions can vary by location, but South Florida still has tech opportunities. Keep your skills sharp and network locally. You got this!
Hey guys I appreciate you sharing this career advice. Watched a 3rd of the video so you may answered later in the broadcast but how many rounds of interviews do most companies require and do you have to meet sales quotas?
4-5 rounds. Sales Engineers don’t have quotas to hit at most companies. Check out my FAQs playlist where I answer these questions and others in greater depth.
As far as military and tech, I feel as though it definitely is a plus. You have clearance civilians don’t so that gets you into a whole different sector of tech/funding. As a result of that higher funding more pay as u guys said. Then if your mos was tech related you’re getting offers from the NSA and shi bru😂bread bread breadddd
Hey! Military experience can open up unique opportunities in the tech world, especially with security clearances. It's all about leveraging those skills and connections for success!
Omg. So I’m a network engineer and I was contacted for a sales engineer role. I turned it down because i actually thought it was sales. I’m a great sales person but I just wasn’t feeling the idea. Let me update my resume
@@techisthenewblack Good Sir .. I appreciate what you are doing ... I desire to take the course and get started ... However, is it 500 for the entire COURSE? Am trying to figure out the entire tuition?
Hey! Consistent effort, active engagement in the course, and leveraging networking opportunities helped us get ahead and secure offers quickly. Stay proactive, participate in projects, and connect with mentors. You got this!

Been following you for about 6 months finally decided to stop watching and take the jump. I joined careerist for the Dec 5th class and it has been amazing. Eman even hopped into our zoom chalk talk with Charles. I’ve seen another interview Eman did and it’s great to see another person from Baltimore out here making a huge difference. I look forward to adding to this amazing community of Sales Engineers!
@@techisthenewblack so i finished Jan 20th basically looking for Jobs at the moment but overall it wasnt a bad course. I guess i have a sales background so it wasn’t too foreign to me
@@RashardHarveyI have 3 years of sales experience and want to jump into sales engineer, how would you rate the course material and support from careerist from your experience on a scale of 1-10?
@@eliawoke3548 legit 4/10 could have been my class but they let in a lot of ppl. So it was too many students to teacher and mentor ratio. In my opinion so far in talking to other sales engineers you can probably get right into it and or maybe and sales development role that can help you transfer in. Careerist would be better if they did job placement. So far course careers is better at helping ppl find work, but it’s self paced. I’m also still looking for a job as a sale engineer so take that into consideration as well. I have 8+ years sales experience. Overall they just need to fine tune to program and offer more resources for the money. O the networking is great probably the best part lol IMO
I came to revisit your Christian testimony and ironically I looked further on your channel and saw you do tech stuff. I’ve been investigating various tech careers for the past two weeks but was looking into mostly coding, but also looking data anylst, System Administration, and Cyber Security. Im very impressed but halfway through the video and have a few questions. So far no one is describing what their job is like as a tech engineer, so I googled tech engineering and older videos are talking about cold calls, meeting customers in person and driving and flying places. Newer videos do talk about rapid 100k to 200k but seem to still deal with the typical sale culture. There’s things I’d like to know because I’d imagine you’d have to very socialable. Do you or others I. The field ever have to do big group presentations in person, cold calls and spam emails?
Both of you are so inspirational. I’m starting careerist coming from a healthcare background like tiffiney but I’m coming from nursing. I’ve watched so many of your videos at this point and I decided to take the plunge. I begin October 31st and I can’t wait to get started. Keep doing what you’re doing, you’re helping our community and making a change. Respect!
Are there charge backs? I pray you both are investing in Whole Life Policies, Real Estate and Stocks. I’m proud of you young men and I love u you’re honoring God. Stay Blessed💪🏾
I'm doing it..Thanks for AAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL the info..I do feel you with being a go getter. I am a non violent felon in the trucking industry-I train students now to drive trucks-I had to put in over 36 applications to get hired on bc of my past. This job is dangerous and I and I am looking for a job change very soon. I will be coming to Tech next year with the same drive...THANKS 4 THE INFO.
1:46:24 It won’t matter if companies push for more minorities in the future. We know they will because that’s where the world is trending and we all know every ethnicity is cool. The bigger issue is will you even have the SKILLS needed? A company wants to make money. Even if they’re 1940s level ignorant, if you have the skills to make them money, they’ll want you. Major in what you can control, your skill set and it’s potency, and then minor in changing workplace culture for the better.
