This is my unboxing & first impressions (not a guitar review!) of the Epiphone Les Paul Special I P-90 Limited Edition, a Musician's Friend/Guitar Center exclusive. As far as I can tell anyway. There is no info about it on the Epiphone website!
I bought this for $151.05 + tax on sale at Musician's Friend.

The other Epiphone Les Paul Special available everywhere is more than double the price but also has P-90s so it can be confusing if you don't specify the Limited Edition. OK? OK!
Anyway, this is just a first impressions video so subscribe for the full review. I will say Epiphone's quality control does not disappoint here. No fret sprout! 🥳
Also, this guitar sounds good. Yeah, I dig these P-90s! But ... as always ... this is a first impressions video so don't hold me to that until the full review.
Epiphone SG Special I P-90 Limited Edition specs:
- 24.75" scale length, like every Les Paul
- 12" radius with 22 medium frets
- 2 P-90 pickups
- 3 way pickup switch
- 1 volume and 1 tone control
- Wraparound bridge
- Made in China
These are basically the same specs as the other cheap Epiphones I've reviewed except for colors, pickups, and body style:

You are kind... I don't know about the color being muted but it definitely looks like mustard. Maybe it's just my ears but the guitar did not sound in tune. Looking forward to your full review. Great variety of guitars that you have been reviewing really appreciate it.

You're right, it's a spicy brown mustard color. I wasn't actually looking forward to a bright yellow so I actually like it more. As for the tuning. Yeah, I'll report back how it stays in tune, but the other Epiphones with the same tuners have been okay so I imagine this one will be as well. And thanks! I'm trying to review as many of the budget guitars as I can. If only more of them were on sale (or sent to me for free haha!).

Mine came ready to tune and play out of the box no adjustment needed and it was set just high enough to play my glass slide standard tuned with all the singing notes sustaining perfectly. The pickups were set well so i did not change anything , i thought this guitar would be a good project but it is much better than expected ! I put replacement P-90s on my ESP guitar but Epiphone P-90s are fuller and better pickups i see now. My guitar neck frets had no burrs or rough places but i have a file for fret ends if needed ! The play ability and tone of this guitar is much better than the price indicates ! Classical style in A minor this guitar excels ! Jazz is outragous and rythems are amazing and dynamic notes all come thru !

Lsst year I bought one of these used in "good" condition in Wine Red direct from GC for $125 + $20.50 shipping, and it was on my front porch from 1,500mi away in three days. It was in mint as-new condition and plays and sounds fantastic. The P90s are very good to my ears, with middle 'both' switch position combining them for a humbucker. Tuning stability and action are fine after my usual little setup tweaks. The wrap style one-piece Epi bridge intonates very well using a 9-46 string set such as Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky. This model of the LP Special has become one of my favorite guitars.

I've been spending a lot of time with the Mustang since I want to get a review out for it soon and I haven't spent as much time with the LP Special yet. Ask me again after I review the LP because by then I'll have played it for 5-10 hours.

So, tell me. What is the best color for a P90 LP and why is it TV yellow? Awesome video! These have always been an interesting looking cheap Epi. I wonder how it compares to the "Inspired By" version.

Ha, I'm surprised how much I like the finish on this one! I've never played one of the "Inspired By Gibson" LP Specials but I'd love to do a side by side video. If I find a nice one used soon maybe I'll do that.

The problem with the finish/color is because it’s a satin finish and not a paint job. I hate the satin finished ones and always end up putting stickers or something on it.

Watching this one again I noticed your high 13th fret this time. It's weird but I've had several guitars with high 13th frets on hi E side but otherwise no prob. Just took a little leveling and sanding. But I wonder how typical that is? I mean at the 13th fret? As you noted, it's usually only a problem if you have your action set low enough to start buzzing somewhere.

I bought this used for 200 and I thought “huh maybe it had a few modifications” two days later the high e string breaks, and I think maybe it’s just stock strings or the last pair being old, I purchase new ones (I buy the same strings everytime and they last me a few months on a cheap Stratocaster) and about a 2-3 weeks later the high e snaps while I was tuned half a step down and this has happened before so I brush it off and replace the string with an old e on my cheap strat, lasts me another 2-3 weeks before breaking again, idk why but for a name brand this is incredibly disappointing despite how cheap it is, my 75$ Stratocaster that came with stock strings lasted me 8 months before snapping and it wasn’t even the e string. This really sucks cause I love the sound and the comfort but the bridge quality sucks or it might be because I practice 3-4 hours a day either way it’s really frustrating to own 5/10

High e strings will break and if you're playing 3-4 hours/day it wouldn't be absurd for them to break regularly, particularly if you play hard or do lots of bends. That said, if your bridge has a burr on it that'll do it. If the strings are breaking right at the break angle on the bridge then check to see if there's anything sharp there. If so, get some very high grit sandpaper (or even an emory board) and smooth it out.

If in doubt I buy black guitars, mine arrives tomorrow. I play Teles so prefer dots on the finger board and looks nice and light too.Will change the tuners ASAP can u reccomend a set I can fit without having to drill?

Best bet re: tuners is to measure with calipers, but no I don't have a recommendation for drill-less tuners for this guitar.

Strings: whatever brand you like. I usually use 9s and I like to try different brands, including the absolute cheapest Musician's Gear brand (they're fine!). Tuners: if you can afford it, locking tuners from any reputable brand (e.g. sperzel). You can also sometimes find good deals on eBay.
